I filed on Feb 17th and my return was accepted on the 17th. WMR shows Return Received 1 bar so far.

I filed with H&R Block on 1/18 at 11pm and my status still shows as pending. Like everyone else I always received an email stating my return was accepted within a few hours, so I was a little concerned. I just called H&R Block and spoke to a customer service rep and she advised me that my return wasn’t actually submitted to the IRS until 1/20. She said they had an influx of returns that we in their queue. I assumed it was submitted on the 19th when the IRS started accepting them. I hope this information helps anyone else wondering why their status is still pending.

I got this information from HRB facebook page, it was posted on Thursday 2/28/2013.

Some taxpayers are receiving letters from the IRS informing them their returns are now under further review. Some of these letters are related to Form 8863 (Education Credits).

Rest assured your return has been prepared accurately and your estimated 21-day refund cycle has not changed.

          Here’s what has happened:
This year the IRS changed the way it processes and accepts answers to some ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ questions on Form 8863 as transmitted by H&R Block. Once we learned of this IRS change, we worked to comply with the new IRS process.

We do apologize for the inconvenience to our clients. The IRS has reassured H&R Block and our impacted clients these additional reviews will NOT impact estimated refund dates.

Please note: Others who have filed Form 8863 have also received letters from the IRS asking for additional information. Clients must provide these details to the IRS in order for their return to be processed. If your return was prepared in an H&R Block retail office, please contact your tax pro to help you.

I filed on 1/30/2013 with H&R Block online program. My return was held until 2/14/2013 since I had form 8863. I was accepted on 2/14/2013. When I check WMR all I get is one bar, processing return and the 21 day message. I called the IRS earlier today and the rep I spoke to could not find my return. He told me to call 800-829-0582 ext 362 to see if maybe they had pulled for review. So I called again about 30 mins ago, I held for 23 mins, but the rep was very nice. I told her I was nervous that I was being audited and she started to laugh. She said very unlikely, she said I know there is a lot of rumors out there that we are denying doing more audits then previous years. She said its not true, although we have had several glitches and letters being sent out by accident. She said not to worry they are back on track now. She told me all she could see is that I was processing and she could 99% assure me that I would have my return no later than 21 days from being accepted. I can live with that, 3/7/2013. I would rather wait another week than not get it all or sometime in the summer, lol. I hope this helps anyone that’s situation is similar to mine. Good Luck, I hope everyone gets their refunds soon.
