@aoldenburg83 you poor thing…. Are you in a community property state! Oh, if so, that’s got to be hard. I live in Missouri so I shouldn’t have to deal with anything like that. Wow. Good luck!
Anonymous@aoldenburg83 I am so sorry. Did they tell you why it was going to take so long? Hang in there. Thanks for explaining to me what your situation is. Yikes!
AnonymousI initially contacted the main tax advocate office for the IRS, and it was assigned to an advocate in the Seattle office, which is closest to me I guess. Not sure if this helps or not, the whole process is turning into an insane mess. :(
Anonymous@aoldenburg83 Did you contact an IRS advocate or Seattle Tax advocate? I am confused. I hope that won’t happen to me? Now I am concerned.
Anonymous@Saros I have had to do this for two years now and I usually got it around 8 weeks. This has been the longest I had to wait. I am in Missouri and My husband owes a great deal of money, but he has been trying to work with everyone to pay them back. I still haven’t got a letter saying that his money is offset, which really makes me mad because we probably could have gotten the money sooner, but oh well.
I think it has to deal with your federal IRS processing district and how complicated is your return. Our return is very straight forward. I agree that the IRS isn’t very organized this year. They are not on their J-O-B. Good luck to you. I am not holding my breathe that my refund will get in soon.
AnonymousI thought this link might be helpful to everyone, it is long, but it has helped me to understand how things work. http://www.irs.gov/irm/part25/irm_25-018-005.html
@brokeandfrustrated you should, it would be nice if the IRShovenstuff :-) would tell us their formula for injured spouse..but apparently we aren’t allowed to know..
AnonymousI wish I would have :( they kept $200 of what I paid in and put it to his debt I guess I shouldn’t have claimed 1 on my w-4 when we have 7 dependents
AnonymousThe lady who prepared our taxes said I would get back all my withholding.
AnonymousI thought you all would find this funny. My TA just called (requested march 23rd) to make sure I got our refund I said yes so I asked her why they took 95% of our refund to pay my husbands debt she said because he made 95% of the income, I asked about the child tax credits because I have seen other people get those back she said that because it was mostly his income supporting our house that they can take those :( I didn’t even get back what I paid in I’m glad this is the only year I will have to file this since now we over paid them but that’s a whole new battle ugh good luck to everyone else still waiting
Anonymousyeah so now its just another waiting game…at least we got half lol
Good deal @buttons16
Anonymousokay so the douche is no longer a douche lol…he reopened our injured spouse claim, because we did live in Oregon and he said that they should release the rest of it but he doesn’t have a time frame on when that would be…he said to check back in a few weeks and that it shouldn’t take the 8-11 week process
The taxes that were paid by the person with the debt will be offset.
AnonymousI was in was when I filed so I used it as an alternate and now the guy is being a douche…*sigh*
AnonymousHow does it work if both spouses worked? My husband had a job that lasted a few weeks, and I had one that lasted a few weeks but that is all either of us worked in 2012.
@buttons16 that’s so dirty…so so dirty
AnonymousI used a was. addy as an alt and they said that’s why its half…so not happening right now!!!
I think it is based on the state you live in now..so even if you worked in Oregon but live in Washington, if Washington is a community property state then it’s cut in half…I am checking it out right now..
Anonymousthey could but the way the first lady was talking it sounded like they had released all of it already
AnonymousI actually do have a question now that I think about it about the community state blah blah blah…we lived in Oregon but I used a Washington address as an alternate, could that affect it?
@buttons16 do you think they are going to give you 2 deposits like they did some other folks?
Anonymousnope don’t live in a community property state…we live in oregon
@maximo2 I got the return has been received and is being processed on 4/16 and WMR changed to dd of 4/22 this morning.
AnonymousButtons16. Do you live in a community property state, (not sure which ones those are), but if you do they can take half no matter who had the income.
Anonymousnow I’m getting transferred to the injured spouse department because the first lady said that since I was the only one working, I should have gotten all of our refund but the injured spouse department said we only get like half…so basically the first lady is also wondering what the hell happened and why they said only half…and now to wait for 30+ minutes according to the hold music lol
Anonymousthey have access to that information because I’ve got a lady right now who is looking into it for me…I hate how some people just don’t want to dig around a little for an answer at the irs
Anonymouswhatthebleep. Did WMR change for you, or did you call to get your DD? Still nothing here but I’m a little hopeful now.
Anonymousthey show they deposited one thing and my bank shows another…and its not like a 5 or 10 dollar difference its like a few hundred….
Anonymous@tat2dmusicgurl We never received a letter from the county about my husbands offset this year either. We did get a letter last year. When I called the offset line, the recorded message said we did have an offset, but gave no amount. So I don’t know what’s up with that. The lady I talked to at the IRS yesterday said that everything was processing normally and there were no problems, but she could not tell me how much of the refund was taken. Or ever if any of it was taken, she said she didn’t have access to that information.
Ok
Anonymoussorry was not* employed….its gonna be a long day I already can tell
Anonymous@whatthebleep no my husband was noy employed and the tax lady at the irs doesn’t know what happened…shes looking into it now…goodie lol
AnonymousFiled and Accepted February 14th.
WMR changed sometime in the last week of February.I’m at the 9 week mark and nothing.
I called the Department of Treasury Offset line (per one of the phone numbers above), and the lady told me should would not help me because it is my husbands offset. It was a privacy issue, even though I obviously have his social, and he’s my husband.
I just wanna know where my refund is :(
Oh and every year my husband gets a letter from the county with his offset letting him know they took his money; we have recieved nothing…..
@buttons16 was your husband employed?
Anonymous@buttons16 I feel for you. :( I am a little worried about that happening to us as well, because the lady I talked to yesterday could not give me our refund amount after the offset, she said she did not have access to that information. I am going to be really upset if we get our refund and they took more than they should have. The debt is my husbands.
AnonymousI just got my refund but it was less then half of what we filed for…all the debts are my husbands so it looks like i’m going to have to call and see what the hell happened cause I cannot have less then half…were moving out of state and we need it to move! gaaahhhhhhh
@brokeandfrustrated I know :( I really hope you hear something soon..
Anonymous@whatthebleep We e-filed and were accepted on 2/23 and didn’t start processing until 2/28 as well.
@brokeandfrustrated accepted/started processing-and not by when inj spouse dept received it- from the day that the irs actually started processing-which I thought at first was the 23rd because that was the day that I filed and was accepted but this guy said it didn’t start processing until 2/28 and that’s where the 11 weeks start- hope that makes sense..
Anonymous@whatthebleep Will you DD be 53 days from when you filed or when your return was accepted?
Thanks you guys :-) the 22nd will be day 53 for me I know it’s not nearly as long as some of you have been waiting, but I think dd’s are going to start coming a lot more frequently since the whole Education credit debacle is getting somewhat better. @brokeandfrustrated :( let us know as soon as you hear from your TA..hopefully you and @aoldenburg83 get some answers fast- just so you guys know-some info about processing- i was told that your return is processed just like a normal return when it is first received-so if you didn’t have injured spouse you would ave ideally gotten your return no more than 21 days after filing- but for inj spouse after it finishes that first process it then goes to a human being in injured spouse dept- they are responsible for calculating how much will be offset, if any. Once they finish that, then it is manually put into the system and after processing is completed a Ddd generates within one to two weeks- he said it can take longer for mailed returns because they have to wait for the person you have the offset with to send the money back which can take up to 4 weeks but normally doesnt- if you mail your 8379 you get a paper check- you efile your 8379 its possible to get paper check and direct deposit- he said what takes longest is the processing by the computer- I just called this morning and made them explain this to me lol luckily the guy had been working with inj spouse claims for over 10 years- I know it’s not much but it’s something…
AnonymousJust check WMR and had the same still processing, refund date provided when available message. :( Well we will see if a TA actually does call in the next few days….
Anonymous@whatthebleep good for you!! I can’t wait to hear what happens. How long was your wait total?
Has anyone actually found out anything about their offset? I have called the automated offset line and when I check under my husband’s ssn it does state the VA as his offset, but it doesnt give an amount or anything. I checked under mine too, just to make sure, and it didnt find any offsets for me, which is good. Just wondering if when you are closer to getting your refund if it will give you the offset amount or what? I just really want to know the status of something here, but like someone else has said… calling the IRS just adds to my frustration.
Anonymous@whatthebleep. Yay!!! I am so happy you have a DD! That is wonderful news! :) I haven’t looked at WMR yet, I am afraid to check it because if I still have that same message today I swear I am going to punch my laptop. LOL :) God bless!
Good morning I just woke up to a dd of 4/22 :-) lets hope we get it. @injured4life I can’t speak for others but ill be here well after my deposit even if its just for moral support :-)
AnonymousHello all. Like many people, I have been keeping tabs on this site for over a month now. I filed on 1/30 and was accepted 2/1. E-filed my return and injured spouse form the same day. This friday will be 11 weeks!!!! Figured I would “join” the club and wait with you all. I have been filing injured spouse for 6 years now. This is by far the longest it has ever taken. I have learned that calling the IRS only adds to my frustration. Every year my check comes in the mail even though I sign up for DD. I have friends who live in the same state as me , but they get their’s thru DD. Never can figure that one out.? I hope you all will post when you get your check. It has been my experience on other sites in the past that people stop posting when the money comes in, leaving the rest of us to sit and wait. Good luck to you all!
Anonymous@purple33 I did not file the injured spouse form until I got a notice the very first year bc I had no idea my refund was going to be offset. And I did not receive my refund until late fall. It was August or September.
I have never ever gotten my refund BEFORE 11 weeks since I started filing IS.I’d like to know if it’s random or if it’s based on what state you owe, where you live, how much you owe, how much your refund is…? I search around the internet and people are saying “Oh I got mine in 4 weeks with IS”. I just want to spit. It takes the longest possible time every year.
Does anyone know what the wait time is based on?? The IRS lady on the phone says they received my return 1/28 and started processing the IS on 2/6 so the refund SHOULD be here before the end of April but she had no idea bc it was still processing.
Very frustrating.AnonymousThought I would give an update. Received a letter from the Seattle Taxpayer Advocate office, after trying to expedite my return due to hardship. The letter says that the earliest the case will be resolved is May 28th, and my return was filed and accepted on 2/11/13. So it would seem that for some reason, having the advocate is going to make the process longer than the 11 weeks, looks like about 15 weeks at the earliest, and the whole point of getting the advocate is because our city is requiring us to move by May 1st. I have never been so terribly frustrated…
Anonymous@lisa120484 I called then 18008291040 then press 1 then 0000 then asked for the IS department. Then ask them when your return was received in the IS department and if it is being processed. I’m seeing in different sites that this year has been the longest it has taken for several people. It sucks that we have to wait so long!
Anonymous@askingwhen I believe if you file the IS form with your return you will get a direct deposit and if you mail in IS form separate then you will get a check in the mail.
AnonymousWhat number do we call to find out when the IS department received the info? I don’t know why I am having such a hard time understanding why no one has any info when we call or how we get such different info every time? Do you think their goal is to make us so miserable that hopefully we won’t file IS the following year? LOL. Only half kidding.
AnonymousMy WMR did change fromm refund date provided when available to straight to DDD of 4/19. I will let you guys know if I do indded get depoist on the 19th.
AnonymousSo I have the 570 code as well but it is “as of March 11?” Ugh. I don’t get why it takes so long. Very frustrating. Lisa120484 I was told you count the 11 weeks from the date the IS dept gets your paperwork….so whatever date that is. Every time I call and talk to someone it’s a different date so I don’t know how accurate that is. Every time I call I have NEVER been able to get any kind of concrete info out of anyone. Congrats to those getting DDDs !! Let the rest of us know how it goes!
AnonymousSo I’m not clear. How do you know if you will get a check or a Direct Deposit? I have
@j33 I’m so very happy for you congratulations! Please let us know if your WMR changes and if you do receive your deposit on 4/19 I’m crossing my fingers and my toes!
AnonymousI finally received a DDD this morning for 4/19, after being accepted on 1/24 and waited till 2/14 due to education credit. I had the IS form taken off since I did not need it. I was told that after the 11th week that you needed to call back and ask for a TA. I did have the freeze code on my transcript of 570 as whatthebleep indicated. When the IS form was removed they told me they were removing the freeze on my return. I was also told it was 11 weeks form acceptance date and then form 2/14 then from the date my returns was accepted by IS department on 2/25. I did read in the IRS website that it is from acceptance date but who knows… Know lets hope I get it on 4/19 and not have to wait the 3 to 4 days after as was indicated to whattthebleep. I hope you all get your DDD soon.
AnonymousI just called for the first time and called the number @whatthebleep had suggested and pressed 00000 and had them transfer me to the Advanced Individual Accounts dept… at least that is the dept I asked for. I talked to a lady who did not help me one bit. She basically said the average time is 9 weeks or something. 9 weeks from what date… the filing date… the acceptance date… what? Geez… I dont understand why they can be so rude and keep their jobs. I guess I will start calling daily as well. I just want an estimated date. We’re expecting a baby in 3 weeks and our refund would be nice to have.
AnonymousWell…got the 11 weeks BS. The lady was super nice bud said that we won’t even reach the 11 weeks until May 9th? WTF? I so don’t understand anything about the dates this year. Called a TA, he said he for sure saw that the IS dept got our stuff on 2/18 so refund no later than May 1st…..so….I have no idea. LOL. Goodluck to everyone else today.
AnonymousThis is our 3rd year filing IS. Each of the previous 2 years it has taken the full 11 weeks. This year is a bonus however. We passed 11 weeks on Friday and after calling the IRS last night, her bounty of information was, “It’s still processing. Call back if you haven’t received it by the end of April”. Also WMR hasn’t moved from “our tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available.” in 2 months.
Not necessarily @lisa120484 the code I’m referring to is on the account transcript and you can order it by clicking on the green contact tab at the top if this page, but your probably just better ff calling FMS to see if they have received any of your refund yet. Their number is on the contact tab as well.
AnonymousA return transcript. Should I be looking at an account transcript?
@lisa120484 are you looking at an account transcript or a return transcript?
Anonymous@whatthebleep where do you see the code on the transcript? I just have the hard copy of the transcript that I ordered via mail. Is there an updated transcript you can look at online?
AnonymousThe lady in account management was really nice. She took my information and referred me to a TA, who will contact me within 7 days. So more waiting. *sigh* And there is no guarantee the TA can help. She could not give me the amount of my refund after the offset, she didn’t have that information, but said there were no problems with our return and everything is processing normally. She also gave me the standard “injured spouse takes up to 11 weeks,” and that would put us at getting our refund by May 16th. I told her there is no way we can wait that long. Behind on our car payment and they want their money soon and we only have the one car. She was puzzled why the lady in the TA dept. transferred me and didn’t go ahead and take my information and get things started. I told her I was puzzled by that too. Oh well, it’s the IRS…nothing they do surprises me anymore.
Good luck @katmill2369 welcome to the group – I’m going out for a quick run but when I get back ill be calling the IRS ill let you guys know what I find out (yes I call almost everyday).. Don’t judge me :-)
Hey just to let everybody know something i do know about transcripts for injured spouse claims-if you look on your account transcript at the codes on the bottom- if you ave code 570 that means there is a freeze on your money and it will usually say additional account action pending- this means your refund is still sitting in the system “processing” (ridiculous) when you order transcripts and that code is gone your money is about to be released or has already. That’s one fact I have been able to substantiate in this debacle, and I just wanted to share.
AnonymousHi all! I’ve been stalking for awhile (creepy I know)! I was a participant last year and was trying so very hard to be patient this year as we have had to file IS for 3 years now but UGH it’s getting ridiculous. So, here’s my story. E-filed on 1/30, accepted on 1/31 except we had damn education credits so not really accepted until 2/14 I guess? WMR changed about 2 weeks after that and then NOTHING. Started calling around the end of March and been getting the usual 11 week run around, as well as a different date from every rep we talk to. They have been unusually rude this year as well. Some tell me to count the 11 weeks from when we originally filed, some from the 2/14 date, some from 3/11? So I have no idea what’s going on. My hubs is a police academy student and I’m at home with the kids so needless to say we need the $$ as badly as anyone else…..I’m currently on hold with the “advanced individual account dept” thanks to whatthebleeps great tip!!! Hopefully I will get some answers and will be able to update with good news. So, 11 weeks THIS week if we count from the original file date and 9 weeks from the education credits acceptance date…..ugh. Stupid IRS. Thanks for listening to the whine guys!!
Good luck @brokeandfrustrated hope you get good news
@lisa120484 call them at the 8008291040 number, I gave up on trying to understand transcripts weeks ago. When you call choose one for English, wait for the next set of options and press 00000, it will say ” I’m sorry we couldn’t understand your request please wait while we transfer you” when the operator picks up ask for advanced individual accounts. They should be able to update you on your progress.
AnonymousWell I called the tax advocate line and explained our situation and hardship, and she transferred me to account management. Ugh!! Now on hold….
AnonymousCorrection: I mean “received our tax info… not our refund.”
AnonymousGood morning everyone!
No change in our status either… have not heard a word from the IRS. We e-filed on 2/21 with the IS form, so it will be 8 weeks tomorrow since we filed. I don’t remember when it was actually accepted through the IRS as I didnt keep notes… I should have though. I did order our transcripts, but it doesnt give much information. On the “Received” line… should that be the date that they received the refund? Because ours says 4/15, which is odd I think. But who knows, I reallyd ont know what I am looking at there.
Should I call the IRS and see what they say? I havent called at all yet as I was trying to be patient and wait out the 11 weeks. Our offset is due to my husband’s overpayment from the VA for the GI Bill. Maybe that’s why it’s taking so long?
Morning @purple33 and everyone else still no changes here on my end
AnonymousHows everyone today?
