This year seemed to run smoothly. Filed 2/22 got an update over the weekend with a DDD of 3/1.

I guess everyone is good this year? Lol! Just wanted to chime in and say that I filed on 2/19 and finally got an estimated date of deposit for 3/1. Wish federal taxes were this fast 🙄

Apparently I have an $88 offset which they are waiting for the money to be taken to pay and then they will send me a check for the rest. Lord. It’s been a few weeks already. I’m done even checking anymore.

I woke up this morning check my refund statuses and it said issued expect between 3 to 8 days with a DDD of 2/23 hopefully I get it Friday and I had no offsets

In my secure message on my online account the responded back and said it was released and I should see receipt up to 3 weeks

I had to submit my w2s and ID. Did so on Friday. Called today and made sure they received it. No update yet but I’m sure I will be offset because I always am. Ugh.

Howard my status finally updated today I was offset by $408 :( they said my refund issue date is 2/16/23 allow up to ten days to receive . But the treasury verification letter came in only 2 days so I’m hopeful. I was expecting an offset from some red light tickets eek.

Jessica thats the same message it gave me… I just had to submit my social the corresponding ID number on the paper amount of refund and the year to clarify that it was me that submitted the return I’m going to check in the morning then call

Did it say that after you submitted online or did you call and someone said it to you on phone? Only asking because after I submitted mine the little note said that’s they have 60 days to process after it’s received.

Received refund verification letter on Feb 8th. Uploaded same day at 5pm all the materials requested (my 1099s and drivers license ) . I sent a message thru site immediately after to them letting them know I uploaded everything (just to cover all tracks)
Of course no reply back yet. And still is processing :(It’s weird why they are doing this when I’ve been going thru turbo tax every year for years . And it’s all basically the same info . And the same type of 1099s for the last 3 tax years . But this is first time they are sending letter… almost feels like they are trying to buy themselves extra time . Also I’m in Va Bch

I filed 1/ 31 and was accepted 2/ 2 it was taking long so I called and they said a refund identity verification was sent out on the 5th I checked my va tax account and it shows the 8th I still haven’t received the letter if you got a letter how long did it take to get it I’m in Fairfax VA I know they probably send it from Richmond

Hi all, looks like VA is moving fairly quickly this year. I submitted on opening day 1-24-22 and was accepted the next morning. Just got an email that mine was processed this morning. DD date of 2-8-22

I had to ID verify with photo id and 2018 AGI. Submitted 2/18 account history and WMR just updated with a date of the 6th.
During this time I called 2x. One time they said 1-2 weeks the next they told me it could be up to the full 60 days. So for me just a little over 2 weeks until my DDD from when I verified online.

@Skye I called the federal number and nothing was listed there. I tried the 804 number on the VA tax site but apparently I can’t call from a cell phone. I didn’t get that bonus refund check in Oct because of UVA. I figured I would have least received an offset letter my now.

I agree! I was offset last year and still had my funds before 2/27. They are stupid slow this year. I’m sorry you didn’t get a DD, have you called the offset line to check?

I called to check about mine and the rep said I will be getting a letter because I have to ID verify, and can do so online. Then they will release the funds and it can take up to 2 weeks. Is online verifying easy?

Check came in the mail on V-Day. Would have been Tuesday 2/11 if not for a stupid offset from 15 (!) years ago but pretty painless this year.

Actually, same. I used TT card and did a refund advance with them. I’m not sure who my sister used, but now I’m curious.
My letter stated I needed the bank info. It told me to have my anticipated refund amount, and my bank info used, ready but it verified me just by the amount. It’s been a weird year for Va. I’ve always had my state before my federal. Hoping they release funds in “several days.”

Still waiting on my VA return.
Both my sister and I got the ID verification letters. Mine was a simple process that asked my anticipated return amount and say my funds should be released in the next few days. My sister has to verify with her w2s and a copy of her ID.
It seems as though VA sent a crap load of the verify letters out this year. Any idea of why?

2/13: got a verify your ID in the mail. I verified online the same day.
2/15: This morning I updated to DDD for 2/25 -
Checked the mail tonight and had a ID verify letter from the good ole state of VA. Never had this happen before. Followed instructions and verified online. Received message that stated in most cases, refund would now be issued over the next several days. I was wondering why it was taking so long. Accepted towards the end of Jan. FYI if you’ve been processing a while in VA.

@ Maria This is my 7th year filing with T.T. However, I decided to use their card this year and now have a verify letter in the mail, too. My guess is that since I’ve always used my Credit Union for my state refund, the T.T. card caused a red flag. From I’ve heard and seen, it is a simple process and shouldn’t take to long for them to release the funds.

@crystal Checks usually come pretty quickly. If its been mailed you should get it in a couple of days.

I received a letter today to verify and it said to check WMR in 4-6 days. This is the first year I’ve used TT and their card. I wonder if that flagged it for fraud?

I finally got a message back from VA in my online account. They acknowledged they received my return on 1/29 and said they are processing returns in the order received and to wait 4 weeks. My return is not even showing up as processing yet. WMR tells me to verify the info I am entering is correct. I guess we just have to wait. VA is usually pretty fast don’t know what is going on this year.

My account says it was processed on 2/7 but I still don’t have a DDD. I think I may call Tomorrow if I have no update today. The past few years I’ve gotten a letter to verify ID but it never took this long to get a letter so I have no clue if thats what is holding mine up or if they are just being really slow.

I filed with TT on 1/24. not sure when it was accepted. According to the VA Tax website my account shows my return was processed on 2/5 but the WMR shows my return is still being processed. Ugh.

I never got an accepted email either, so I called and they have not even received the return! And I used Jackson Hewitt. I know they are accepting them because I just did my moms taxes on Saturday through Turbo Tax and hers is already processing! If you used Jackson Hewitt I would look into because they lied and said my return was stopped (both Fed and State) when this was not the case for either!

Filed early January, got an email with acceptance on 1/29 for VA and still not even showing up on VA check your refund site. Just says verify SSN, and year are correct. I don’t know what is going on with VA I have never waited this long for an update.

Verification is easy, I did it online through VA’s tax website by making an account and signing in. It takes like 5min, and you’ll still get your refund on time if you do it that way. They can instant verify. You’ll see a change within 24hrs. If you mail it in or use your tax advocate, it’s going to either cost money (TA), or take an extra 3 weeks (mail).

I filed thru TurboTax Jan 28th. It was accepted on Jan 30th. Was just able to pull it up in the system yesterday (feb 6th) evening to show that it is has been received and is being processed. I think this is the first year ever I’ve gotten my federal before state.

To access VA tax account history, login to your account (with the correct link, it should take you right to the login) but if not it should be at the top right of the website. Create an account if you don’t have a login. once logged in go to View your account history under MANAGE ACCOUNT

My state was accepted in the 29th. Up until this morning I haven’t been able to get anything on the website either. Just checked this afternoon on my account history and it says my return has been processed as of todays date. So I’m now Waiting on my ddd.

On jackson Hewitt it says in process, but when I look up on the VA state refund site it tells me to verify my info. So I don’t know. Its aggravating though. I’m having issues with Jackson hewitt with my fed too so I dont even know if they submitted it!

The Governor signed the bill. They will begin processing. They advised there will be a slight delay. But that’s fairly good news. This is the first year I don’t owe Virginia money. 😂🤷🏽♀️

Jeffrey that’s due to the new tax laws that were effective Jan 2018. Unfortunately, it is correct. Go into your HR department at with and change your state deductions to 0 and you’ll be safe next year.

My MFJ return for Virginia seems wrong. I used TurboTax this year and last. Withholding approximately the same. Taxable income slightly reduced. Last year I itemized on my federal return, this year with the higher std. deduction did not. Last year Virginia refunded ~$480 but this year I have to PAY $95. Does this make sense? Any ideas?

Good news! It looks like there has been a deal reached for VA tax plan, that is set to be approved in House and Senate next week according to WTOP. They even added an emergency clause so that as soon as it gets signed by the Governor, it will become effective immediately. Fingers crossed this means we are nearing the end of this craziness!

My federal was accepted on the 22nd, but I haven’t heard a word from Virginia yet; and I normally get my state refund before my federal. Guess it will be the opposite way around this year.

Direct Deposit was rejected, WMR says check was mailed 3/6/2018.. 21 days later still no check, but received letter on 3/24/18 dated 3/19/2018 that check was being mailed. Why was the DD rejection letter sent 13 days after my refund check was supposed to be mailed?

I filed 1/27/18….got accepted on 1/29/18…received letter on 2/10/18 for ID and W2. Faxed information on 2/12/18. Received Notice online at 2 am for refund issue date of 2/16/18 via check. The refund was reduced. Hope this helps.

I filed state and fed in mid Jan. State was approved Jan 26. Was given a DD of Feb 7th and it was deposited to my account this morning. I’m a pather so I’m still waiting for fed, but my transcript give me a DD of Feb 12th.. So, hopefully I get it by the end of next week..

@Wellconeone – That same thing happened to me last year and I feel your pain :( The City of Richmond is quick to snatch your money for taxes but slow to use that money for the purpose intended (i.e. – road repairs, school funding, etc.). I can’t wait to move out of the city.

Well i said i would update y’all.
Even though I’m salty lol. I called the state of va taxation to check refund status. So my state taxes are processed but are being garnished for property taxes?!?! On my car. One car $725 yikes.
Going down to City billing today to approve them to take from state taxes.
So i can get my $60 refund from Richmond 😂😓🤬 -
Filed 1/29. Accepted 2/1. Processing on VA WMR on 2/2. Reads complete and processed on 2/2.
Waiting for them to open so i can call.
I read a lot of people’s not updating but calling and receiving DDD.

@Nikki year before last I had mine set up for direct deposit but there was an offset and they took part of my refund and sent me a paper check for the remainder. I would call and check with them to see if that may have happened to yours. -
Just got a letter in the mail today from VATAX requesting additional information before they will release my refund. Totally sucks but my refund is being held until potentially March after they receive a copy of my W-2 and a secondary form of I.D.

I registered as an individual on the VATAX website to view my account history and it says my return was processed on 1/29/18. Today is 2/3 so I don’t know why my refund hasn’t posted yet.

Definitely register on the taxation website like others on here suggested. I didn’t get much information from the generic refund tracker but was able to get a little more information from registering and looking at my account history. Even though state accepted my return on 2/1 it wasn’t processed until 2/6. It updated this morning to say my refund was issued on 2/15. (Hopefully in my account sooner). Hope this helps! TO ALL INQUIRING WHY YOUR VA REFUND IS TAKING LONGER TO PROCESS. I was advised by a VA Tax Rep. that taxpayers who filed earlier than the VA start date will likely receive a letter requesting more information to process your return. Filing early prompts their system to ask for more information to insure a fraudulent return hasn’t been filed. If you filed AFTER their start date then you will likely receive your refund much quicker. BOTTOM LINE: If you filed your 2016 VA tax return earlier than the start date you may want to consider waiting until the season has officially started when filing your 2017 state tax return.

I filed on 01/28, accepted 02/02. Tax account says I was processed 02/08. Where’s my refund says still processing. Hoping maybe the money will pop up sometime next week.

Va state accepted Jan 26, finally received an updated msg on Sat that it is now being processed. Any outlook on how long til DDD? I know federal will be after 15th. Just wondering if anyone has already been there done that and how long it took after the processing msg. Thanks!

@ERw – that’s good news for you. I filed my Federal and (Virginia) State taxes on 1/26. My Federal was accepted within minutes and state was accepted 2 days later. The (Virginia) site didn’t update my return to processing until last weekend and it’s been stuck on processing since then. My federal refund was deposited yesterday. Hopefully we will have a DDD soon, too.

I just spoke to an agent also and she confirmed that they are mailing mine on 2/10 (as I had a small offset that I was unaware of lol). So FINALLY I know something!!! YAY!!

So…I did what Ms Chanel suggested and registered on the Va site. I was able to see the same thing and had a va return complete and processed on 2-3-16. I still didn’t get an update on the WMR so I decided to call just to make sure there were no offsets. I spoke with a rep and she was able to give me my ddd 2/14. So, evidently as long as you’re processed they have a ddd and WMR just isn’t updating. Welp, guess I’ll just wait until the 14th and see what happens. Just glad to know that everything went through ok.

Thank you for that update!!! I hope mine will update soon. I have not received any kind of letter from them YET! I filed my state on 1/20 and it was accepted on 1/26 and it just says that it is processing and to check back later. I checked the other website that was posted in here and it says my return was processed and completed on 2/3/17 but it does not say that the refund has been sent yet :(

I give VA taxes on 1/13 it was accepted and processed on 1/19. Was sent letter of review on 1/30 faxed w2 and faxed on 1/31 (they received same day) called VA tax dept she says my refund is scheduled to go out this Thursday 2/9.
So for all those asking if VA state being held its not will update once I see it in my bank I have rushcard.
Also VA customer service advises if u have letter of review send in asap before the big rush and you’ll process faster!

Hey hey everyone! I just want to share some info for the fellow Virginia filers… So it took them (VA) forever to accept it, almost a week & then nothing.. You know – checking the va WMR.. Nothing online about this delay in acceptance which I know has nothing to do with the feds – this is the states crap! So I am aware of Virginia’s online dept of taxation lol.. It tells you your tax info for Virginia.. If you register you will see it all – down to the date your refund was processed.. I check it along with va WMR as they are 2 totally different systems.. It’s simple – I’ll detail so whoever wants it can at least get an understanding of where they stand with their VA refund..

There you will see the Year & Return Status & Refund Status.. Mine finally updated today – took longer this year.. It says – Your 2016 Individual Income Filing has been completed. Return processed on 02/03/2017.. So any day now for VA.. I filed VA 1/23 & they accepted 1/27.. Earlier today it was processing & late afternoon it was processed!

Found this on Virginia state returns this year:
“Timely and accurate processing of every return is a priority for the department. As refund fraud schemes grow more elaborate, we may need to take extra time to review returns. This means it will take longer to issue refunds to some taxpayers than it has in the past,” said Tax Commissioner Craig Burns. “To prevent refund fraud, we’re enlisting the help of tax professionals, employers, payroll providers, and taxpayers.”
I am thinking this means it will be delayed until after the federal is approved.

My VA state return was accepted on the 4th (a little after midnight) and today when I used the state “where’s my refund” tool, it said: “Your return has been processed.”
Prior to this, it gave me no information at all.
When I access returns from previous years, it says the same statement at the top, but offers a DD date below.
I was also able to order a federal transcript today/see it online- as a side note.
I’m guessing this means it will be DD soon, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this happened. In the past, I’ve forgotten to even check the VA tax website and simply been pleasantly surprised to see more money in my account.

Debbie what happened with your return? I filed 2/6 and I kept getting a generic message until 2/25. That day it updated to processing and the next day to processed. I called today to check the status and was told there was an error on line 21 and that had been disallowed. The return is now being reviewed but rep could not tell me why and that a letter was sent. Automated system says refund reduced but no date or any other details.

Did you ever get your refund? Mine continues to say processed no date and now they day they have sent a letter but its been two weeks and no letter.

I filed and was accepted on Jan 31, 2015. It continues to say processing with daily email update alerts saying my status has changed. When I go check, nothing has changed on the status. This is the longest it has ever taken Virginia to process our return. I did file through TurboTax and I know there was some issues with TT state returns where they had to be retransmitted. Not sure but this may be the reason for the delay.

My VA tax refund was accepted on 2/02 (filed the 28th). The website just kept saying processing and I signed up to get email alerts (at the bottom of the website). In Feb 6th at 5am i got an email from it saying my status had changed. So I get on the website that afternoon to check and there was NO change, same old processing, etc. This morning (the 7th) I got another email saying my status had changed. Just logged on and it now says I’m processed and will get my refund deposited 2/10.
