I called yesterday and was told very little detail. Basically something “flagged” my account on 2/5/2016 and it would be another nine weeks to process the return. She was not rude, but not friendly either. Let me give a brief history. I filed TT on 1/9/2016. Accepted 1/12/2016 and of course IRS started to process on 1/19/2016. Bars went missing around 2/1/2016 and I got the return is still processing on where’s my refund. No tax topic message or message of any kind for that matter. After reading various forums I decided to go ahead and verify my identity on the website and it went through. I called again today and got a much nicer lady that pretty much said she saw where my identity was verified on 2/5/2016 and that it was a smart thing for me to have gone ahead and verified identity on my own because she said my account was flagged but only for identity verification, not a review or audit of any kind. She did tell me it could take nine weeks. I tried to drag it out of her if it were possible to take less but she said she had to say nine weeks because that was what they were told to say. So I am still annoyed but relived at the same time because at least I know my money is coming…..hopefully in less than nine weeks. She said the bars missing does NOT mean a review or audit. In 90% of the cases are the returns are simply flagged to verify identity and this was usually for ones filed very early which mine was, 1/9/2016.

Has anyone that had to verify their identity received their refund yet?

Just verified online. No letter just took a guess and i needed to when a week ago it wouldn’t let me. It said it could take 6 weeks. Will it really take that long? We are in need of this money ASAP

I filed with TT on 1/7 accepted by IRS on 1/11 lost bars and tax topic last week of Jan. Called IRS on 2/8 and was told to verify and gave the number to call. I called and answered questions both about my return from last year and this year and a few questions that would be listed on s credit report. I was told it would be up to nine weeks before I would either get my refund or a letter in the mail… Now wouldn’t they have told me if I should be expecting a letter right of the jump.. Why tell me that I have to wait up to nine weeks for a letter?? I pray that I get my refund a lot sooner than 9 weeks..

File with TT on 1/26 thought I was good. Ordered transcript on 2/5 . Called 2/10 bc I had a feeling and they told me I had to ID verify so I did so and now I’m just waiting on some kind of update. WMR shows me the processing message

I filed 1/20 & thought I was accepted 1/20 through Turbo Tax but after talking to the IRS I was told I wasn’t accepted until 1/22 and that I would have to call and verify my identity. I was also told that my refund was still processing but I had a ticket on my account to answer questions regarding my refund. Oh and that I wouldn’t recieve a letter in the mail. Which is really annoying because had I not checked WMR and noticed my bars were gone how would I have known i was suppose to call?
I called ID Verify and I was told that my account wasn’t flagged for ID theft I just had to answer questions about this years tax return & once everything was verified it would take up to nine weeks.
This is really annoying but I went through this process last year so all I can do is wait.
I just really don’t understand if it’s not Id theft why am I waiting 9 weeks?
But hey at least I’m still getting it. -
The number the refund status guy told me to call was 800-830-5084
However, many people recommend you do NOT call unless told to do so.

I filed 1/13 with TT, accepted on 1/14
Lost bars and tax topic late January
Called IRS this morning, was on hold 30 min then was told I needed to verify ID
Called ID number, was on hold 5 min, was asked 4 random questions that would be something on my credit report- NOT related to my taxes
Verified my ID successfully and was told up to 9 weeks, but realistically within 4.
I did have a lot of changes on my return: divorce, moved, went back to school
I heard I can call a tax advocate to speed this up?

That happened to me last year. It took almost 2 weeks exactly after calling the IRS. I will never file before the date of acceptance again!!

So I tried to do the online ID verification and it wouldn’t let me past the first screen when I inputted my name ssn adresss. Does that mean I don’t need to do the ID verification or is my stuff fu**ed.

I too had to do the verification. I was also told to wait the 9 weeks. I am hoping for much sooner, but all of the stories I have found online are saying they waited 9 weeks…some even longer than that!

I too am in the same boat filed 1/18 accepted 1/19. I called two reps today and one finally did their job and said I needed to verify. I did and was told it could take nine weeks to receive it since it was back in line for processing hope it’s sooner though!
