So I log in to the IRS website to check the status of my return and I get this.

We need more information about your 2025 tax return before it can be processed.

I go through this little questioner about whether I filed a return and who done it and then it asks me for a control number.

Anyone else experience this?

I got my letter today. I completed the verification. I was accepted 1/21 but no transcripts or anything. Is this going to set me back a long time to process now?

I filed 1/14 and accepted 1/15 eic and actc. I checked for transcripts close to end of January and there was nothing there. Curiously checked again end of last week and it’s showing that they need more info etc. Never had this before does anyone know how long it takes to receive letter from the IRS?

I’m one of the unfortunate ones, my 2025 transcript is showing but it’s still blank, so ig I’ll be waiting on the letter in the mail.

I have this message in my IRS account but not on the Where’s My Refund page where it just says accepted but not processed. Never had this message before. I did use a different tax prep program this year but everything else is pretty much the same. Filed/Accepted on 01/26/2026, Pather.

I’ve read online at the 14 digit control number “could” be on your 2025 transcript if it’s available for you, under the 150 code there is a number with dashes and it’s 14 digits. I saw someone claiming to use that and it was accepted and they were approved/received the refund a day before the letter came.
So you could try that 14 digit control number if you have the 2025 transcript available with a 150 code at least on there. They got their refund before the letter.

I guess I will keep a lookout for a snail mail letter from the IRS then. We shall see how timely they are.

I just received the same notice, never had this to happen to me before, I wonder how long it will take to receive the letter in the mail??

I could write a book about this. The control number is on a letter they would have recently mailed you. It’s to verify you. The control number cannot be found anywhere else, not on IDme, not on IRS account page, not on online letters. I had a tax advocate that year, and they would not process my return without the letter. Good luck.
