I had a tax offset on my refund due to a student loan in default. I applied for a loan consolidation to get it out of default and was approved. I called the irs tax offset number and now it’s saying I have no tax offset attached to my social security number.

Is it possible that they would have cleared the tax offset that quickly? The loan consolidation was only approved today or yesterday.

I also had to do a student loan consolidation. I waited to file taxes so they wouldn’t take it. Nelnet (my loan service provider) and the USDEDU said it could be weeks before it was cleared. I called the offset line the day after they paid off my loan and it was gone. Contact your loan service provider to make sure tho.
