We filed 1/23, accepted 1/24 and had one bar.
On Feb.2, hubby lost bars and “Your tax return is still being processed” message. (No EITC or any credits, hubby had normal W2, Identity Protection Pin and I had a business that lost money; ).
On Feb.12, I lost bars also and no 152 for either one.
Yesterday was 21 day mark, so I called and was asked a lot of questions, including did I
receive any letters or special codes from IRS, and said no. The only thing we received was a special 6 digit pin number and account transcript with all zeros.IRS agent said it didn’t look like any problem, just one of many that is picked at random for
further review, and once that happens, it is another 6 to 8 weeks!
To reiterate, I specifically asked – if bars are gone, and we have the “Your tax return is still being processed; a refund date will be . . .” then it is at least another 6-8 weeks (unless
there is a problem of some kind, then longer) ?
He said yes, that message indicates another 6-8 weeks! -

I had the same message you had. I got the direct deposit date for 2/22/17 today on wmr. This message does not mean that for everyone. I was worried and was thinking about calling the IRS but I was honestly scared they would flag me. I believe anyone who cals and has questions the person you talk to flags your account. I didn’t call, I had the being processed message and I got a DD of 2/22/17 today. No way to prove it but I believe if you let them do their thing and don’t ask questions they will get you your refund! Just my opinion.

I don’t think it pertains to everyone. I lost my bars for 2 weeks and then last Friday I was finally able to order return transcript and Saturday changed to path message.

This is NOT accurate for everyone. I had this message for a couple days this tax season then moved on to Path message.

taxes suck:
Thank you for your post, I was happy to see it. My IRS agent said all the same
things as your agent, all the reasons it could be for the processing message, like
yours did, or for no reason at all. My agent told me that said once you
have that message, then it’s another 6 to 8 weeks. I promise I am not
fear mongering, just reporting on my talk with IRS agent. I sincerely hope
your agent was right and mine was wrong! -

I had this problem either last year or the year before. The IRS does tell you 6-8 weeks, however unless you have received something it probably won’t take that long. Mine was delayed by about 2 1/2 weeks. It took several calls past the 21st day of them saying it was just taking longer and I just had to wait, until they finally had said there was an error on the IRS side that had delayed my return. Hopefully you get it sooner rather than later.

The processing message does not absolutely mean that you are being pulled for a review. I don’t know why people keep insisting that it does. I personally had to id verify. I called and got a very nice lady. After I answered her questions, I asked her about the processing message. She told me flat out that it is a generic message that could mean one of many things. She stated that sure it could mean a review, it could also mean ID verify, not everyone gets the id verify message on their WMR. It could mean that is was re-sequenced, it could mean that there was a glitch in processing and it had to be re-ran. It could mean that they are whaving an issue matching your return to the W2 submitted by your employer. It could mean that it’s still sitting the que and simply hasn’t been processed yet. It could also mean absolutely nothing. For PATH Act people, she said some are getting the PATH message, and others are getting a still processing message. According to the lady I spoke with, the processing message will change sometime after the 15th for quite a few people, without any action needed on their part, because after that date the PATH Act returns can be officially processed.
NO that message does not mean 6-8 weeks. My buddy and I did our axes the same day, sitting next to each other. Both of us H&R Block. I went straight to the processing message, he went to that processing message a few days later. I have EIC, he does not. My buddy now has CASH IN THE BANK, he received his deposit, and guess what….His WMR still says processing.
Believe what you want, fear mongering is rampant on this forum, misinformation is being peddled like drugs here. My return is in limbo, I am still processing, all I can do is wait, meanwhile my friend has his cash, we are both still stuck on processing.

@tom just for kicks do you think it will be released midnight tonight or sometime on the 15th? My apologies if this has been asked. I just know you’ve answered a lot on here and people sometimes come for you because of that. So what do you think? Do you not have an exact dd time?

We had to ID-verify last year, even though we get the extra 6-digit pin number,
so I was thinking we would get that letter to verify, but so far nothing yet. -

Sharon, me too. I was also told no letters sent out, no problems (yet). But it still would be another 6 to 8 weeks if I WMR had no bars and the “Your Tax Return is Still Being Processed…” msg.

Yup same situation
Filed 1/23 married jointly
Bars on mine disappeared 1/31
Bars on hubby disappeared 2/12
Processing message with no tax topic
Just called a 4883c letter was mailed yesterday
So when u lose bars, something is up. And either they can fix it on their own and send you your refund, you have to verify idenity or a review. I’m hoping after I verify that I get it soon after. This is ridiculous -

I called last week and she told me no letters sent out, no problems just hasn’t processed yet. Now I’m worried. I wonder if I should call back. This stupid tax return is taking over my life! Ugh.

Just talked to IRS refund is still being processed filed on 1/23 and accepted on 1/23 but she said that my return did not get accepted until 1/25 she checked my account and said that it was still being processed and that they did not see where they had sent out a letter where it was being reviewed or I had to verify id or anything she said that is going to take longer for people claiming the EIC and the child tax credit and she said the earliest that the refunds are going to go out for those are the end of the month and she told me to keep checking Where’s My Refund and if I did not see a change by the 1st of March to call back

Yes, was able to order Account Transcript and it was all blank; unable to order
Return Transcript. I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and even though
I heard this directly from an IRS agent, I even asked him to clarify exactly
what he meant – To those that don’t believe me, I wish I was wrong :(( -
