No update on the 1541 for me either, Matthew. I filed 1/23. On the 4464C letter dated 2/1, I was told my “random” review would be finished no later than 4/1. It is now 4/13, and no change. But no more letters, either. So I’m hoping I’ll wake up to an update tomorrow. Fingers crossed.April 13, 2018 at 2:44 pm #4244523Matthew Leslie
Any updates with 1541?February 27, 2018 at 10:12 am #4232152April
I filed on that 22Jan and was accepted on the 23Jan. I received the delayed message the 1st week of Feb. I spoke with the IRS and was told my return is being thoroughly reviewed. I received my letter yesterday and it states same thing. The letter states it can take up to 60 days from the 23Feb before I see anything. Hope this helpsFebruary 22, 2018 at 3:30 am #4228779Lee
Filed 1/30 EITC
Accepted next day
Take Action Delayed 1541
Called IRS and they said no issue it is delayed due to EITC and they will begin processing on the 15th, it is now the 22nd and the message is still there. Received a letter a few weeks ago saying they overpaid me by $94 that they will take it from this years return. They held mine last year for 6 months due to not filing in 2013 but got full refund anyway. Doubt they would release my whole refund if there was an issue so not sure why I’m still under Delay. Anybody else similar?February 22, 2018 at 1:27 am #4228612Evita
I called yesterday and spoke to someone. I filed and got accepted 1/23. Now I have the code 1541(delay in processing), the gentleman I spoke with was very nice and just told me there is a delay with some people due to the EIC and CTC You may not receive your refund by the end of month but if I have not received it by March 19, called them back. I didn’t owe anything and there is no offest. I did get a letter from the IRS and they will always send letters to let you know what is going on. Hope this helps someone.February 21, 2018 at 7:42 pm #4228076Stacey
I checked the Where’s my refund and got the take action reference # 1541.
I called and they said a letter was sent out on the 12th of Feb. and a freeze has been placed on my refund. Apparently the IRS does a random draw to check out the information that you filed to make sure it is accurate. The IRS will not give me any other information except my account is frozen until further review … anyone else have this problem?February 15, 2018 at 3:06 pm #4218900Meghan
@Jenn, they process before the 15thFebruary 15, 2018 at 3:14 pm #4218910Lance
@Meghan, you tell them babeFebruary 15, 2018 at 2:04 pm #4218753JENN
HI, I FILED ON 1/17 GOT ACCEPTED, SAME THING. SAW MY BARS AND THEN IT WENT TO A TAKE ACTION CODE 1541.
IF YOU HAVE A CHILD TAX CREDIT OR EIC THEY ARE NOT PROCESSING TILL 2/15. SO THE SYSTEM GETS OVERLOADED WITH RETURNS AND THAT CODE IS FAIRLY COMMON.
CHECK IT AGAIN AFTER THE 15TH, IT COULD TAKE A WEEK OR MORE FOR IT TO MOVE.February 8, 2018 at 7:38 pm #4210408Shawn
EIC, CTC, ACTC
2/7 570 ref code 1541
Have no clue whats going on.
Probably under review.
All my usual codes and then the 570.
No 971 Code at this point.
I dont owe any money
I’m going to wait till Monday I think and see if it comes off my Transcripts with a 571 code.February 1, 2018 at 6:55 pm #4203246Samantha

Sometimes it may be that your AGI is incorrect on this year’s tax return so you may want to go back and check to make sure you entered it correctlyJanuary 24, 2018 at 5:58 pm #4199131pat
i just called and she stated it was because they do not open till 1/29. that is what that code means should not be a problemJanuary 24, 2018 at 1:58 pm #4199050Johnny
Good news (I think)
Just got off the phone with what seemed to be a competent fellow at the IRS.
He stated that they may or may not have flagged it for some reason, but rest assured there is no errors and I can expect my refund on 1/29.
Hope this is close to accurate.January 24, 2018 at 12:50 pm #4199041Phillyguy215@phillyguy215
@Johnny, I’m in the same boat…was accepted on the 17th, one bar…and now Take Action notice along with the 1541 code….grrrr.January 24, 2018 at 12:36 pm #4199035Mary
I had that last year and it was because of a problem with prior year tax return. Once fixed I had my return within two weeks. They do send out a letter and that is where it can take a few weeks to receive thatJanuary 24, 2018 at 10:20 am #4198998Johnny
Just wondering if maybe there was a back log. My return is pretty straight forward and I owe no money, so just wondering.January 24, 2018 at 10:09 am #4198995Michael
1541 is an an internal code that the IRS uses to identify returns that have been “Delayed”.
