Last week I called because the system said I needed to verify my identity. I completed the verification online, but then received a message stating that a fraudulent tax return had been filed under my information which is not true.
I called the IRS and went through a series of questions, only to be told that I actually had not been verified yet. I spoke with a representative who informed me that a letter had been mailed out to me. I checked my mailbox the same day, received the letter, and completed the verification.
This same situation happened to me last year around the same time, and my refund was updated the following week. I’m hoping this year will be the same. Fingers crossed.

Im waiting on my letter, what questions do they ask to verify? This is ridiculous.

I got my letter Friday evening and called the IRS this morning to get verified. The letter says it could take up to nine weeks to receive your return but also mentions in most cases if you call within a few days of the letter that they should be able to continue processing your return. I do notice that people who aren’t on path were getting their returns quickly. I’m NHB and e filed with chime for the first time this year. State came within a week despite the letter.
