I filed on 1/12 but my tax preparer didn’t submit until 1/28. I also had a dependent and EIC. The weird thing is WMR never updated for me. I even checked the website last night and it showed no record of my return.

It almost seems like they are trying to get them push through before the two weeks that they have before they shutdown. Once the givermant is back up and running the irs employed workers will have alot of work the rest of the year.

@thamightyavengers. I think it’s just coincidence about filing so early and the refunds being delayed. Every year we file as soon as we have access to my husband’s W2. Last year, just like this year, my refund was accepted 1/22. This year before filing I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought it might take longer to be accepted because of the shutdown but when it was accepted the day after filing (quicker than last year) I thought things were full steam ahead. When I saw people were getting direct deposit dates before the end of January I was encouraged. Then I started seeing people with refunds filed and accepted days after mine getting their ddd and even their actual deposits and I admit, I’m getting really discouraged. For me the WMR regular screen went away 3 days ago now, replaced with the still processing note, and while I was at first encouraged thinking it must be progress, now I’m just confused, frustrated and discouraged. I KNOW they say 21 days but when you do this every year and you have a usual way it goes, it’s not wrong to expect that. I’m trying to tell myself that the 12th makes 21 Days so I should have it by then.
Anyhow, I’m sorry I got away from my point which is that I file every year before the IRS opens and I’ve always gotten my refund quickly. This year is very out of the ordinary so I wouldn’t worry about filing early in the future. Actually, it seems like most if not all those that are waiting and confused, getting the message about still processing are people, like me that were accepted 1/22 and maybe. 1/23 Too. I’m wondering what the heck is up with that ?!?!

@themightyavengers it was deposited early this morning. I checked my account at Ike 4:30am and it was there.

This makes me feel a whole lot better as I filed with a simple return with no EIC or anything and I filed 1/22 and accepted 1/23 and been holding at one bar since 1/23 with absolutely no movement on WMR, I’m hoping to get a deposit soon. This is the first time it has taken so long to get my refund, usually I get it before 2/5 every year, this is also the first time I filed before opening day. I think this was a lesson to be learn to never file before opening day, from this point on, I will file on opening day.

@Fefunds4all I’m not sure what those are? I filed head of household, 1 dependent, EIC, and a school credit. And yes all those who are relying on WMR for updates on their returns need to know the website is not dependable or always accurate:-)

@jvny I wouldn’t trust the WMR website. Have you called the IRS directly to check in your refund?

Wow! That’s awesome!!! Did your defendant qualify for the ctc or ACTC? That’s good for people to know about WMR. Maybe with all the issues from the gov shutdown, they are focusing more on processing and issuing the refunds before the next possible shutdown instead of updating the online records. Or slow system or something….idk. Congrats though! And thank you for sharing with the forum! :)
