Filed and Accepted on 2/11 with the “under manual review” post. Received quiz for me and hubby by snail mail on 2/14. Answered online questions that evening. Next morning received “Your return was processed on 2/15, you will receive your refund in 7 business days….” updated last night with a deposit date of 2/23. Tax preparer told us during our appointment that every Ohio return he had done had received the “manual review” message and they had received the quiz by mail a few days later. Hope this helps a little bit :)

I received my Federal refund on 02/13/2015 However, I have not received my State refund. Nor have I received anything in the mail from the State about taking a quiz in order to get the refund.

I got my state refund this morning. It slightly pissed me off, such a tease.

February 10, 2015 at 12:23 pm #4105264ALH
So I filed my taxes last week on Feb. 3rd and was accepted the same day within the hour… It took about a week to see anything on WMF.. On 2/7/15 it says my refund was approved and should be in my bank by Feb. 11th. Two days later 2/9/15 I receive the identity quiz letter in the mail.. TWO DAYS BEFORE SCHEDULED DEPOSIT?!?!? So I’m confused right, so I log into the website to take this quiz, and it tells me that I can’t be found in the system and to call.. So today 2/10/15 I am currently on hold now for 44 minutes and have still not spoken to anyone.. So my question is, is this only for the state refund, or is the federal affected too? And do I even have to take this d*$n quiz when its saying my refund has already been processed???

Finally got the quiz. Took it Friday 2/6 and today it says to give 7 days for processing And check back. Did it take the whole 7 days for those of you who have already gotten yours?

@ md….I wouldn’t think so, I received my federal refund while going through the ohio identity verification.

Here is my ohio time line this year….
Filed 1/21
Accepted 1/21
Immediately “under manual review allow up to 60 days”
1/27 called odt
1/27 wmr updated status as “your return was loaded into our system on 1/27 please allow 3 weeks …..”
2/2 Identity quiz received and taken
2/2 wmr update status as “your return was processed please allow 7 days …if no update within 7 days check back for release date”
2/6 wmr updated status “Your refund was released for direct deposit on: 02/09/2015. Please allow 3 business days from the release date for the refund to be credited to your account. If the refund is not available after 3 business days, please check with your financial institution’s ACH Department to verify the deposit. If your financial institution can not locate the deposit please call us at 1-800-282-1780″
So according to this….21 says from my file date….coincidence?! Hmmm idk -

I filed on 2/2 with TT, both state and federal accepted. On Wednesday checked Ohio WMR, had manual review message. Checked today around 9 am had refund being held for an offset ( I have only lived in Ohio a year and do not owe any one money). Wasn’t able to get through to the AG office, just checked WMR again and got this:
Your refund check was issued on: 02/04/2015. Please allow 7 to 10 business days from the mail date for delivery. If you have not received your refund and it has been more than 30 days since the mail date, please call us at 1-800-282-1780 or e-mail us to initiate a trace.
I filed with direct deposit, still no date on my federal. Any one else have this happen?

I filed on 1/23 through taxact – joint return. New to OH so a part year resident return. All income for the year earned in OH. Spouse and I got quiz 2 days ago, completed right away. The system still can’t find our return – says “we are unable to process your request through the on-line service at this time.” Maybe ’cause we are new to the state? They must have it since we had to take the quiz.

I just filed my Ohio taxes on the 1st, and received my quiz in the mail today already. Took it, so we’ll see if they try to take the same offset that came out of my federal. Hopefully they have received the offset already and won’t touch my state refund. We’ll see…

I got the quiz letter in the mail on the 2nd too the quiz on the 4th and with in a couple of hours my message went from being processed wait 60 days to my refund will be deposited in 7 to 10 days. I think they are processing refunds but not releasing them until you do the quiz. But you cant do the quiz until you get your letter with your reference number on it.
-
February 5, 2015 at 4:51 pm #4102580taylor
“identity quiz” is a JOKE
gives you 2 chances I failed both (obviously)
There were questions on there asking about someone with my same last name, but that does not exist in my life. Where are they getting this information????? -
February 5, 2015 at 1:43 pm #4102514Jane
it looks like everyone has to verify their identity if they want a directly deposited state refund. interesting. I wonder what kind of nonsense went on last year for this to be warranted. you would think that they would have the thieves’ bank account numbers flagged and that only those who have suspicious accounts would be required to confirm their identity. apparently they aren’t smart enough to write that kind of a query before flagging absolutely everyone and thereby making it cost taxpayers a huge about of quiz-processing labor.
-
February 5, 2015 at 12:10 pm #4102452harlan
there doesn’t appear to be a link on the site to take the quiz — only FAQs. Can anyone advise?
-
February 5, 2015 at 10:01 am #4102328MelOhio
Sent in return on 1/20..
Got a letter in mail over the weekend saying go online and do identity verification..
Did that on Monday 2/2.
Said up to 60 days for processing..
Now it says..
Your return was processed on 02/02/2015. Please allow 7 business days from the process date for the refund to be credited to your account. If the refund is not available after 7 business days, please check the refund status again for a release date. -

I filed 1/31 and they received it on 2/3 and automatically was put in a manual review. Hoping to see this quiz soon so we can get this crap over with. I hate playing the waiting game. Been playing it the last 3 years, including this year, with the Irs and now with the state. Wth?!

Still nothing from Ohio. Filed 1/26. Accepted 1/30. Now under manual review. No quiz. No identity verification…nothing.

February 4, 2015 at 2:42 pm #4101775JustWantMyMoney
I guess I passed my test yesterday, because when I checked the website today, it says “Your return was processed on 02/03/2015. Please allow 7 business days from the process date for the refund to be credited to your account. If the refund is not available after 7 business days, please check the refund status again for a release date.”

2/4/15 – took almost a week to post anything to the Ohio where’s my refund site…then I get “Your original return was received and posted to our system on 02/03/2015, but is currently under manual review. Please allow 60 days from the posted date for processing. If it has been more than 60 days, please call us at 1-800-282-1780 or e-mail us.”
I called the number and it is disconnected. Awesome. Thanks Ohio!

Funny about the quiz- They asked my also about some car we owned in 1998. I thought the questions were strange too….
-
February 3, 2015 at 9:08 am #4100354JustWantMyMoney
I took the quiz today and I didn’t even know the answer to some of those questions. They asked me about the year of a car I owned in 1997. HTHeck am I supposed to remember that? I hope I passed the test. :-(

Okay…I feel a tad better was worried I haven’t gotten the quiz yet but I filed on 1/27. I am getting my federal on Friday so it would be nice to get my state too but w/e.

-
February 2, 2015 at 8:55 am #4099489Lou
Hi Beast:
What I did is stayed on the collection area (attorney General) and once they posted it as paid, when I kept calling the tax payer line. They were not very happy I was calling each day. I was told they would get to mine but they were processing current year. I think the entire process took almost 6 weeks. I was then issued a paper check.. no ddd.
-
February 1, 2015 at 3:35 pm #4099180Anonymous
Lou – if that happens to me, what steps did you have to take to get it back? Just so I’m prepared…
-
February 1, 2015 at 2:02 pm #4099127Drea
Filed: 1/27
Accepted: 1/30Under manual review….like everyone else annoying. In the past I would get my state income taxes within 3-5 business days. It’ll be weird if my federal beats my state. Hopefully this quiz will come on Monday! I want my money.
-
February 1, 2015 at 1:35 pm #4099115Lou
I know beast, but since you have filed your Ohio already they will take it before the federal gets to them. I did the same last year filed my federal and they took the offset.. fine but then I filed my ohio and they took it took. I got it finally but took me over six weeks to get it back.
-
February 1, 2015 at 11:41 am #4099070Anonymous
Lou – that’s why I waited to file Ohio. My offset has already been sent to the state, I checked with them. It gets to them within 10 days. I actually spoke with a very helpful lady at the AG office.
-
February 1, 2015 at 9:55 am #4099023lou
Beast- I hate to tell you this but if you owed the state – they will take it too. This happened to me last year. They took the amount I owed out of both refunds. I had to fight with the state to get my money. It took about 6 weeks to get back the total amount. It is set up to grab it out of both. Since the federal got it first, now you will need to go back to the state for entire amount. Your Ohio will be short the same amount.
-
February 1, 2015 at 9:19 am #4099002Anonymous
I just finished my Ohio return, and fully expect to get the quiz in the mail in the next week or so. I had a state offset that has already been taken from my Federal, so it will feel good to get my full refund back from the state.
-
February 1, 2015 at 8:06 am #4098980Tierra
I went through turbo tax filed the 26th of jan, Ohio didn’t accept until the 30th. Now saying its under manual review. I don’t know what’s going on but my federal will be here Tuesday and what’s weird is my state usually comes before my federal. Hopefully I dont get the quiz to verify its me because I have lived at the same address for yrs now and that’s not right to hold money that’s not yours. Maybe they are building interest on it
-
February 1, 2015 at 7:50 am #4098977Anonymous
Mine was selected for review as well
-
January 31, 2015 at 2:27 pm #4098679Anonymous
I got the same manual review everyone else is getting. My theory is that they are trying to milk as much interest out of the tax money as they can, so they are stalling.
-
January 31, 2015 at 1:15 pm #4098622Rebecca
I filled directly through the Ohio website on 01/22. Easy enough to do. Checked it yesterday and it’s processed. Only thing it says it wad mailed instead of DD… weird. I did not have to do any verification. Just created an account and 15 minutes later was done. 7 day turn around time.
-
January 29, 2015 at 8:16 am #4096419Steve
Yesterday, mine said it had been accepted, but was being put through manual review. This morning the website says it was processed yesterday and I should have the refund within 7 business days. I was pretty anxious when I saw the term “manual review”, but I guess it’s all good now.
-
January 28, 2015 at 7:19 pm #4096059
I got the same quiz in the mail too. I filed on the State’s website using my driver’s license. Then they want proof on top of that. A little over the top. I can see if the address or something didn’t match but we have been filing from the same address for the last 10 years and on their website. Used the telefile prior to the website.
Someone needs to write Joe testa (the tax commissioner) a little note. Not just someone, everyone.
-
January 28, 2015 at 4:09 pm #4095922
@MJ : God, I hope not! I just had to fax them a copy of my driver’s license and SS card so they could update my last name on their site…how much more proof do they need that it’s me? LOL
-
January 28, 2015 at 4:00 pm #4095907madstick
Well this is a bunch of bull hockey!! I also filed our state on 1/20 on ohio’s website just like the past five years. Did the registration and used my I.D. issue date for verification. It was accepted the same day. Next day I check the status and like everyone else it’s under manual review. Just checked my mail and got the quiz letter in the mail. Finished the quiz and it tells me thanks it may take up to 3 weeks to review my quiz….Dear state of ohio, you know that extra $10, on top of what you already take every paycheck, that I let you borrow all year long? It will no longer be there next year if you can not return it in a timely manner. Grr
-
January 28, 2015 at 3:35 pm #4095881keven
the same thing happened to me I sent it in on the 20th and just today I got the under review message. so I sent out a email to them and heres what I got.
We have received your return, please allow 1 to 2 business days for the system to determine if you will need to complete the ID confirmation quiz and the status of your return to be updated in our system. If the system determines that you must complete the ID confirmation quiz, please allow an additional 3 – 5 business days for the letter to be mailed. You may continue to check the status of your return at tax.ohio.gov.

Is everyone who gets the manual review message going to have to answer security questions?
-
January 28, 2015 at 1:27 pm #4095759
I filed through TT on 1/23/15, have been checking every day to no avail. Now it says they received it 1/28/15, kind of annoyed it took so long…
Oh, and I’m also under manual review. “Please give us 60 days to process your return” :/
-
January 28, 2015 at 10:33 am #4095584Lou
Update- I received my identity paperwork in the mail today. I took the quiz and there are some strange questions on there. Stuff from years ago. I passed, but who knows how long it is going to get my refund… This is still bullshit and feels like an invasion of privacy.
-
January 28, 2015 at 7:55 am #4095343Lou
I filed mine through the Ohio web site on the 20th. I am also under review. I called them and was told I was getting a letter to verify my identity. This is just another way for Ohio to delay refunds. I have filed on the Ohio web site for well over 10 years. This year I re-registered with my 2013, 2014 adjusted gross income. There was no reason for this. It has now been over a week and I still do not have the letter with the reference code to take the quiz on their web site. I live in Cleveland and it does not take over 5 days to get mail from Columbus. This is just ridiculous.
-

Filed ohio on 1/23/15
I used state website. Mine too shows” under review”.
-
January 27, 2015 at 7:45 pm #4094937angela
Just checked my Ohio refund status again. I filed the 20th and got it kicked back but sent it right back out and was accepted the 21st. I had that generic message stating they haven’t received my return until today…. Now I have that January 27th message and of course “manual review”. So stupid.
-
January 27, 2015 at 6:32 pm #4094895GregorianFont
Ohio – under manual review. Seems to be happening to a lot of folks, so not too concerned.
-
January 27, 2015 at 4:03 pm #4094779gtjib
i’m seeing a pattern here….can all of Ohio really be under manual review? Hmmm
-

I just checked I am under manual review and so is my boyfriend filed 1/23
-

I’m under review too just checked… Shame on ODT for pulling a fast one
-

crts, it’s nothing to worry about. it’s just something to do with the fraud thing they have going on.
-
January 27, 2015 at 3:11 pm #4094734crts
Checked today only to see that I too am under manual review…… we’ve filed pretty much the same return for the past 9 years. I’m not sure what the issue could be.
-
January 27, 2015 at 2:54 pm #4094720Anonymous
gtjib, I’m getting that too.
Your original return was received and posted to our system on 01/27/2015, but is currently under manual review. Please allow 60 days from the posted date for processing. -
January 27, 2015 at 2:11 pm #4094685gtjib
I just checked OHIO wmr and it tells me now that my return was uploaded to their system today 1/27, and it is now under manual review and may take up to 60 days. It says the exact same thing for my school district also. So I am wondering…is everyone getting this message,or it is ohio way of covering their tails and we will get our refund soon anyways? Idk
-
January 27, 2015 at 1:35 pm #4094643Jaime
I checked mine this morning and it says that it is under manual review and it may take 60 days. Ugh!

I called ODT and they haven’t received my return even though I was accepted on 1/21. It’s a turbo tax thing I’m sure of it. I refiled on their site.

Amanda, I received the same email.
-
January 26, 2015 at 9:58 am #4094129crenee
I checked my email this morning and I finally got an email from Tax Slayer saying that my OHIO return has been accepted, but the Ohio WHERE’S MY REFUND site still saying they have no information on us.
-
January 26, 2015 at 3:14 am #4094094amanda
I agree… it definitely should have updated to at least show your return as received. I almost peed my pants again this year when my return came up “manual review” Again this year! Last year I saw it and called, they had no idea Why, no one asked me for more info… a week later there was a DDD. I honestly think the manual review is their way of not giving any info out until the 15 days, then they will post a DDD. I filed on the 20 and was accepted the 20th. The 21 my manual review popped up. No one is being manually reviewed, they would have asked for more info by now. I’m sure red flagged will be audited and asked for more info and to filed out the quiz online or by phone. Which is horse poo, because you had to put your I’d issue date or last years AIG. To authenticate. The 15 day wait is their way to hold on to their $ and make more $! Don’t you think it’s odd that federal and Ohio isn’t releasing any info of any kind on refunds this year? Come on! At least give us the state $ back, I paid my $ on time so pay me mine on time or I’ll send Ohio a bill for interest… Lol!
-
January 25, 2015 at 4:55 pm #4094039Tiffanie
I have read a lot of forums about Ohio looking for answers and from what I see there are 2 groups of people right now, us with no info at all in the system and others who have a message saying they being manually reviewed. Hoping no record is the better status right now.
-
January 25, 2015 at 11:19 am #4093995crenee
My Ohio return was efiled on Jan.22nd. Ohio “where’s my refund” site has no information on my return??????I figured it might be a little slower processing time because of the new security measures and all, but they aren’t even showing received? It would be good to know that it was at least received.
-
January 25, 2015 at 1:55 am #4093944amanda
I checked my email and stumbled upon this… looks like we will get our federal before state this year…
Dear Ohio Taxpayer:In order to better protect Ohio taxpayers and prevent tax fraud, the Ohio Department of Taxation (ODT) is implementing additional safeguards that will inevitably cause some refunds to be delayed this upcoming income tax filing season.
These steps are being taken to further bolster defenses in anticipation of a continuing increase in attempted tax fraud involving identity theft. Last year, ODT intercepted an unprecedented number of fraudulent income tax returns seeking to steal refunds totaling more than $250 million. In previous years, attempted tax fraud averaged about $10 million.
To detect and counter refund fraud related to ID theft, an additional up-front filter will now be applied to all tax refund requests to analyze the demographic information reported on a return. This analysis will then assign a “probability of fraud” factor that will determine how the return is then further processed by ODT.
If a return is pulled for review, ODT’s additional security measures will require some taxpayers to successfully complete an Identification Confirmation Quiz, before the return will continue to be processed. If a taxpayer’s return is selected for identity confirmation they will receive a letter from ODT directing them to our website (www.tax.ohio.gov). The website will provide access to the quiz, detailed instructions on how to complete it, and frequently asked questions for reference. Taxpayers without Internet access will be directed to call ODT at 1-855-855-7579, for assistance with completing the quiz.
The additional screening and security measures will unfortunately slow the processing of electronic and paper returns, and the issuance of refunds. Electronic returns requesting a refund may take up to 15 days to be direct deposited this year, and paper returns could take up to 30 days for a physical check to be mailed out.
ODT is committed to aggressively fighting ID theft and tax fraud. Thank you for your time and understanding.
Sincerely,
Joe Testa
Ohio Tax Commissioner -

Justsayin I filed and was accepted on the 20th and mine still has that same exact message. I am beginning to wonder if they got my return. I filed with TT.
-

I filed with TT 1/18 rejected 1/20 because of forms. Filed again and accepted 1/21. I’m getting a generic message when I check their site. Anyone else see this??

I’m not expecting to get anything from them anytime soon. They are being more cautious with security this year, so it may take a little longer.

I filed my state with TT on the 20th. I was accepted about 30 minutes later (per TT), yet the Ohio site is still showing they don’t have my return.

I had to E-file mine twice. It went into processing on 1/16/15 and then I received an email from Taxact yesterday (1/22/15) saying due to some updates to their forms my return was rejected. They told me to e-file it again. I did it and it was accepted 20 minutes later. I think the changes made to the Ohio tax forms are causing delays.

Last year I got the manual review… same as this year. I called year and they couldn’t give me any info. I checked a week later and there was a DDD. I wouldn’t worry, I got the same thing 2 years in a row, I think it’s an error.

Crenee… I filed thru Taxslayer and I’m in ohio. Got an email stating Taxslayer is now approved to efile state returns. Filed it about an hour ago and got the acknowledgment that it’s filed and waiting for response that its accepted from the state

Maybe the “manual review” is what EVERYONE is getting…strange that they would do that to everyone who has filed so far

I filled 1/16 accepted ohio 1/20. No update:/ I did however get an email about a week ago stating that ohio will be implementing new security measures regarding tax refunds and some refunds may be delayed up to 15 days. Which isn’t terrible, but not as good as I prefer either lol

I filed mine on 1/21. The next morning was stated on “Where’s my refund” that mine is being manually reviewed. I realized AFTER I filed that I put my husband as a dependent and that I filed as head of household! YIKES!! Have to do an ammendment!
