Does anyone know if you have an offset but are still going to receive a refund if it will be delayed a lot or would I get it within the 21 days. I’ve had an offset for two years this is my last year owed.

You know the IRS is just out their mind and really know how to complicate someone’s life with nerves. I have an offset and I’m fine if I owe it I owe it. But what pisses me off is everything is suck a secret with the IRS u call the operators are there to just say we don’t know wait 21 days but they complain about having to do a shortage. I rather call wait an hour cause I know people are working on refunds than sitting there to stall people. Then u get a DDD and it has to go through a thousand banks then again oh we don’t see it we just have yo wait. Like get it together all year we work pay taxes we shop we pay taxes like if it’s so hard to give us not even half of what we give u then don’t charge us taxes. Yes I’m venting!

What are the chances of them holding your refund if you have a student loan gone bad?

Does anyone think calling the offset number is a jinx. I’m afraid if I call they will flag the Ssn and search for something lol. Thoughts?

Refunds come from the Treasury. If you have any offset, it would be reported to the Treasury. So all the treasury do is deduct that amount and send you the rest. Should still be within that 21 day period.

Question: I called the offset hotline #, and once I put in my social, it said “the information you requested is currently unavailable.” Does anyone know if this means something, or if this means the system is just unavailable? TIA.

Thank you everyone! I feel better now! I thought for sure it would be delayed I’ve owed an offset for a few years so I never got anything but this year I only owe a little bit and I should get a good chunk of it. So I was worried about how long it would be tied up! Thanks again everyone!

it does not take any longer to get your money after an offset you would get your money in the same time you would have gotten it if you had not have had an offset

Franny- I had an offset last year, it took maybe a week longer to get my refund, that was it. It really wasn’t a big deal.

I had an offset 3 years ago. It didn’t delay my refund at all and I got it 2 weeks after I filed. They just processed it, took out what I owed and sent me the rest. I’m sure I have another offset this year but it’s only about $100 or so.

I had offsets on and off, and it does not tie up your refund. The amount is automatically deducted and the balance sent to you via DD or check. I have an offset on the TOP hotline for the last 2 years, but no money has been taken yet…wondering if it will be this year. Good Luck!

I had an offset last year and still received the remaining amount of my refund the day before my DDD. It didn’t delay it at all.

Hi Franny in my past experience I know that within that 21 days you have to continuously follow up with a live agent to ensure you get it within that time frame otherwise it will in fact take longer than the 21…
