-
March 26, 2020 at 3:11 pm #4397347Ly
@charliemae I also got a letter from NCDOR the day right after my refund posts into my bank account requesting more information. It really got me questioning though about the timing of the mail. I also tried to search up the tax auditor name and did not find anyone with the same name on ncdor website. Thinking about calling them to make sure it’s authentic. Especially during this time when everything is slow.

Then again the virus is probably slowing everything down but still…
-

request for more information letter. really, in these times, really? my refund was so very small and so very needed, now in these uncertain times, i’m being asked for three years of information (didn’t even get a refund before), really? so very frustrating – in these times in particular.
-
March 23, 2020 at 10:36 am #4396566charliemae
still in stage 1 on website, not processed on mobile website. letter coming today from NCDOR, not sure what it is – no dd and no movement. will update after mail is received.

@ErinM — lol, I guess we will find out why once we get our notice in the mail. Got our DD today, it was reduced by about $167. I am racking my brain trying to think why but can come up with nothing. We have owed every year for the past few years and it seems NC still wants more lol. Oh well.

Best of luck to all of you. -

Stage 3 friday morning, just received deposit at 5pm
-
March 2, 2020 at 2:28 pm #4387429Jesse
Has anyone gotten the message that your refund amount has changed and they will mail a letter? We filed 2/1, accepted 2/6 and NCDOR (finally) updated over the weekend with that message. Our return was super simple – two incomes and we only have one child and the return math added up. What could possibly be wrong??
-
March 2, 2020 at 11:56 am #4387330Stephanie
Stage 3 – Refund issued on Friday 2-28.
Still no deposit as of today, Monday 3-2.
Anyone know the amount of days from Stage 3 until money actually deposited in bank. -

Hey @Erin :) Haha! Glad you enjoyed a steak dinner the other night! Thanks to us getting our fed, we went out to eat the other night as well. It was great going to a restaurant we normally can’t afford to go to. Lol. Anyhow, I’m still on stage 1 :( I thought I would’ve moved to stage 2 at this point, *sigh* Getting a bit annoyed, hopefully it won’t be much longer.
Glad to read you’ll still be around on here Erin :) -

We filed 1/25

As of today, still stuck on stage 1…Fed refund received today..
I am wondering if I need to call…
Last two years, our case was moved to bankruptcy department, due to filing bankruptcy 14 years prior. I had to speak to a case worker and both were very sweet, never understood why our case seemed to be pulled to their desks and did a quick review and sent it back out to cycle and pay.. -
February 26, 2020 at 12:41 am #4379795Leslie
Thanks for the congrats @Erin, Erica & Sarah! I’m so happy it’s finally moving along. It seems to me once you’re at stage 1, movement to stage 2 doesn’t take too long. I hope you finally get to stage 2 soon Erin! And yes, Sarah, I agree :) It’s nice to know we aren’t alone in this for sure!
Hope we all get our money real soon!!! *crosses fingers* -

@HappyNc thanks for the reply. Yeah mine neither im kind of stumped if its the 3 day assumption were going off of i would have thought it would have been in there by now. I dont know how to check for an exact date for state to deposit it just says refund issued and could take 10 days but i called Jackson huitt and the guy said it should be on there but the gurl the next day said it could be the 1st of march. So who knows.

Still haven’t updated to 2 yet. Been stuck here since the 19th. Wondering if me not filing state last year would cause an issue (they owe me $20). At least federal will be hitting sometime this week.

Still haven’t moved to stage 1, *sigh* This is getting really ridiculous at this point. Planning to have hubby call the state tomorrow to see what’s the hold up.

February 22, 2020 at 12:46 am #4366877
Stage 1 2/22/20
Filed 2/3/20 accepted 2/4
I looked at others stage movements. They are around 18 to 20 days from accepted to first stage. Mine was 18 days. So let’s see how long it is for stage 2 … I’m gonna say 3-6 days. -
February 21, 2020 at 8:00 pm #4366292
Went to Stage 3 today sometime before 2 P.M. states refund was issued to my Bank and to call for deposit well I didn’t have time as I was working and it did not go into my bank. Totally confused by this because it says also it could take up to 10 days??? It is a automatic transaction…but not an automatic transaction!
Anyway glad they said they sent it to my Bank but I will not get an answer from them until Monday.
-
February 21, 2020 at 4:41 pm #4365770ErinM
Oh, Leslie. :(
Think of it this way… You’ll get yours and more than likely we will have spent ours. You’ll be on top. ^_^ -
February 21, 2020 at 4:38 pm #4365763Q
Becky
None of us have our money yet, I think it’s because they changed it late in the day versus the normal 3am change so maybe available later or tomorrow not sure just happy it’s sent -

Anyone know once stage 3 refund issued, until It shows in bank.

February 21, 2020 at 4:02 pm #4365621Leslie
Hi Sarah! Congrats on moving to stage 1, finally! Woohoo! And congrats to all of you who moved to stage 2 and 3. Me, I still haven’t even moved to stage 1…I’m so over it at this point, *sigh* I think it’s the ones who filed in January that are moving along. I filed 2/4, got accepted 2/5. Looks like I still have to wait a bit :**(
-
February 21, 2020 at 2:53 pm #4365379
I was updated to Stage 3 today!! It was mid-day, so I’m confused as to when or what time status’ are updated. But, good luck to everyone! I’ll still be around b/c my battle just started, as far as my federal return. Ugh! 😩

Mine went to stage 3 around 1pm today and it’s not on my Netspend card I think it will show up later
-
February 21, 2020 at 1:39 pm #4365343Becky
I believe it was Tuesday. I’m just concerned if I’m stage 3 why the refund isn’t in my account. I’m scared they took it for some reason. I don’t trust the department of revenue.
-
February 21, 2020 at 1:06 pm #4365272Q
I’m guess I just went to stage 3 around 1pm because it’s saying my refund has been sent to the bank account provided

-
February 21, 2020 at 12:49 pm #4365225Becky
Hi. So I went to stage 3 over night. I checked my bank account and the refund hasn’t posted yet?? I thought in previous years it would post the night it goes to stage 3. Anyone else have this or the ones that are at stage 3 did you get your refund the day it went to stage 3???

February 21, 2020 at 9:26 am #4364643boolittlek
Filed 1/27 / Accepted 1/31
Finally moved to Stage 1 this morning. I think the delay is due to the inexplicably late acceptance (last year my return was filed / accepted on 2/18 and reached Stage 1 on 3/5).
-
February 20, 2020 at 6:02 pm #4362862
I am at stage 2 . I’ve never followed my state taxes. Once you hit stage 2 was the normal time frame for stage 3? I hit stage 2 either Monday or Tuesday.
I have no idea, I do not remember this from last year I think I e-filed or mailed it in this time I used TurboTax.
-
February 20, 2020 at 6:01 pm #4362858

February 19, 2020 at 11:41 am #4359230Drew L.
Can anyone chime in on this? Every year my wife and I file a joint return. Every year it’s accepted, and tracking the status shows “Your return is being processed”. Then it always goes to “We can not provide a status update with the information provided”. It has happened every single year we have filed since moving to NC in 2010. We always get our small refund, never have issues other than not being able to track the status via the website.
Anyone else have this happen?
-

@erinm, nothing yet, but hoping soon. mine was accepted 1/31, so maybe tomorrow?

At stage 2, so I’m guess all of us Stage 2s should receive our refunds around the same day which should be by the end of the week they usually do deposits on Thursday/Fridays but I think once the before the 27th groups get done they’re going to do you other guys group
-
February 18, 2020 at 12:30 pm #4356587ErinM
Last year I had a $20 refund, but I didn’t file it. TT wanted $40. Ha!
And, Erica, you’re not rubbing it in! I appreciate you and the others updating. Gives me something to read and a glimmer of hope. <3 -
February 18, 2020 at 8:50 am #4356283sarah

@ErinM, I’m so sorry! I don’t mean to rub it in. I’m happy b/c I don’t owe! Last year was the first year that I received state back since 2010. But, I’m sending positive vibes your way and hoping that you get an update very soon!

ErinM
I believe it updates daily because in the past I would post on here and some ppl stages would change within 4 days Apart
-
February 17, 2020 at 2:38 pm #4354967ErinM
I’m going to ask again because I think it was buried:
Is NC a weekly update or daily?
-
February 17, 2020 at 7:52 am #4354482
I think that it may be helpful if we post the exact messages received as we move between stages.
With that being said, I’m on Stage 1 and here’s what I have: “Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052. To reach an agent, DO NOT select 1 for refunds. Instead, select other for all other inquiries, then select individual income tax.“

Hit Stage 1 on 02/15. Its weird because I mailed my 2018 taxes in on 01/24/2020, with the extension paperwork and I received a check in the mail on Friday 02/14, yet I just hit Step 1 for my e-filed 2019 taxes….CRAZY…
-
February 16, 2020 at 6:52 pm #4353594ErinM
When was your return accepted, Q? Before the 29th?

February 16, 2020 at 3:26 pm #4353331Leslie
Haha, it’s all good Erin :) I knew you were. I think you’re right. Hopefully they will get to ours, and others, this week and we’ll move to stage 1 finally! *crossing fingers*
-
February 16, 2020 at 9:02 am #4352915ErinM
I was just picking, Leslie. :)
It looks like they are doing batches of days. Too early for math, but maybe in the next few updates we’ll move up. ^_^ -
February 15, 2020 at 10:25 pm #4352323Sportsmom
I filed NC 1/21 and was accepted 1/24. Just made stage 1 2/15.
How much longer should I expect to wait for DD on refund?
-
February 15, 2020 at 8:05 pm #4352168Leslie
Lol, Erin. Sorry! I just noticed some people saying they filed in Jan and they moved to stage 1. Sorry you haven’t yet :( That really sucks, especially since you filed way before me. Hope we both get to stage 1 soon!
-
February 15, 2020 at 5:37 pm #4352042ErinM
Oh, Leslie… I submitted 1/29. Accepted 1/30. Still waiting. Lol
-
February 15, 2020 at 4:37 pm #4351993Leslie
So it seems those who filed and we’re accepted in late Jan got to stage 1. Lucky, lol. *sigh* I filed 2/4, accepted by 2/5. Still waiting for stage one. This is ridiculous. Why is this state so damn slow?!! Many other states have issued out refunds already. *smh* Damn NC!

-
February 14, 2020 at 6:39 pm #4350438
My mom is currently at stage 1. She was accepted 1/23. I haven’t begun to process. I was accepted 1/27.
-
February 13, 2020 at 10:18 pm #4349308
The quickest I have ever gotten my nc refund was when I owed money outta it. Lol
-
February 13, 2020 at 1:33 pm #4348680Alverse
Filed on 01/16/20…accepted on 01/27/20. Still hasn’t began processing.
-
February 11, 2020 at 12:36 pm #4346060
Correction: I previously stated that my return was accepted on 1/27…just checked my text messages/emails and mine was accepted on 1/23. It’s been 19 days, not counting the 23rd. Still no movement as of 2/11. Smh.
-
February 11, 2020 at 11:57 am #4346021sarah
so if it helps, last year it took like 24 days to move to step 1 for me. so at this rate, this year, i’m expecting like the 24th. hopefully earlier.
-
February 11, 2020 at 8:37 am #4345797
NC is slow.. Last year i filed and was accepted 1/27, DD was on March 3rd.. i think that’s the new norm for NC. I filed this year on 2/2/20! & was accepted, so I’m not looking for DD until second week in March
-
February 11, 2020 at 7:11 am #4345719ErinM
Still waiting… accepted 1/30. I expected at least moving onto “processing” by now. :/
-
February 10, 2020 at 6:49 am #4344390Kate
NC is broke. Every year I wait months and months for state refund.
Eventually I give up and just get surprised when there is extra $ in account.
-
February 9, 2020 at 12:04 pm #4343877
Mine was accepted on 1/27. Been waiting for movement since that day. I’m hoping to see an update by next week.
-
February 8, 2020 at 7:19 pm #4343510Lynn
My state was accepted 3 weeks ago and it still has not started Processing
-
February 6, 2020 at 9:50 pm #4341134Ras

-
February 6, 2020 at 9:23 am #4340323sarah
filed – jan 30

February 5, 2020 at 11:00 pm #4339965EnNc
North Carolina didn’t use to take this long several years ago. Now I never get it till way after I get my federal. Last year it took at least a month :/
-
February 5, 2020 at 7:02 am #4338812ErinM
Ughs. I was hoping to get that sooner to help carry us through. Thanks for the reply, @Brokencgirl. I appreciate it.

@ErinM nc takes forever! I normally get my refund in March
-
February 3, 2020 at 7:48 pm #4337637ErinM
This is our first year NC actually owes us. What is the typical turn around time (filed with TT)?
-
February 3, 2020 at 8:04 am #4337069Jonathan
Filed 1/27, Accepted same day. Showing that it hasn’t been processed yet.
-
January 31, 2020 at 8:41 am #4335701boolittlek
My 1/27 filing finally showed as accepted this morning. Same here, Ras–last year, my H&R Block e-filed Fed and State returns were accepted the same day.
-
January 30, 2020 at 10:48 pm #4335484Ras
I filed on 1/25. We just got our NC state acceptance 5 mins ago (1/30).. Seriously, the longest it has ever taken to be accepted..
PS. We used H&R Block too.. We used them last year to and it didn’t take this long.. 🙄
-
January 30, 2020 at 10:47 pm #4335483Ras

January 30, 2020 at 4:55 pm #4335376boolittlek
I filed electronically on 1/27 using H&R Block’s software. If it doesn’t show as accepted by tomorrow (1/31) morning, I’m going to contact their customer support.
-
January 29, 2020 at 7:57 pm #4334924
That’s odd…perhaps it depends on the prep software/company you used. I filed both mine and my brothers on 1/27 and we were both accepted around 3:30 – 4 AM on 1/28.
-
January 29, 2020 at 6:35 pm #4334902boolittlek
Filed 1/27; not yet accepted.
-
January 29, 2020 at 11:39 am #4334563Ras
We filed 1/25 and state has yet to even accept them. First year we haven’t seen accept the tax forms within 24 hours. I know they didn’t open until the 27th but here it is the 29th and nothing.. Anyone else have theirs not even accepted?
-
January 29, 2020 at 11:13 am #4334530Tracy
Let the wait begin, NC is the slowest State for refunds. Filed federal and state 1/21/2020, received federal today (the 29th) don’t expect state until the end of February or March.
-
August 26, 2019 at 6:32 pm #4331400Jr
Mailed state and fed same time Feb 17th federal came about 3 weeks, now its Aug 26 still in phase 1

-
May 28, 2019 at 1:41 pm #4328670Carley
Mine was accepted 1/31 also and I’m STILL on stage one.
-
May 25, 2019 at 3:02 pm #4328530
I was accepted 1/31 so that has been the longest BS wait ever for a state return.
-
May 25, 2019 at 3:01 pm #4328529
I checked today and it says:
Your refund has been issued to the bank account provided on your return and should be processed within 10 days. Please contact your bank for a record of the deposit.Still nothing in the bank and I don’t know how long it’s said that since I gave up lol.

May 18, 2019 at 12:53 pm #4328012Tj
Accepted 2/7
Stage 1 2/28Still no progress. How many months is this supposed to take?
-
May 9, 2019 at 4:01 pm #4327217Hodges
System still shows I’m in stage 1 (science March 27), called today and was informed that a portion of my refund was offset by a university that I attended and the remaining would be direct deposited in7-10 business days. I was previously being told it want offset EVEN when I asked SPECIFICALLY if that was the reason for the delay! Still think the system is flawed! Will update when I actual receive refund or letter notifying of offset or status changes in system.

Filed on 1/28.
Accepted on 1/29.Still waiting.
I’ve called several times and they say my refund has been approved but online it still shows that it’s in Stage 1. I’ve even had to send in copies of my w2’s and my federal return!
I’m guessing they will have to send it at least by May 30th or they will start to owe me interest. I hope they haven’t just lost my information or something!

Filed on 1/28.
Accepted on 1/29.No refund yet.
For the past month, representatives have told me my refund is approved but they don’t know when I will get it. Online it still says I’m in Stage 1.
I believe they have to give us our refunds by May 30th or interest will start to accrue. If I don’t have mine by then, I guess I will have to get a Tax Advocate :(

At this point calling the system a joke is an understatement
As stated before I called on Monday April 29th as that was the day the 8 weeks were up and my file was sent up for review
I called yesterday to see if there has been any movement since online im still at stage 1
The answer I got yesterday was that after reviewing you account notes it was hard to tell if the representative on Monday sent you file to review so I sent it up to review – worst case is that it has been sent twice
Please just be patient and hopefully you should get your refund soon

Filed Electronically and my return was accepted by NCDOR on Feb 8th. Stayed on Stage 1 until May 3rd. Have not received refund yet and have no idea how long it will take.
-
May 2, 2019 at 7:40 pm #4326457Anessa M
@Hodges I agree bc this is the first year I have not owed and they took forever!
Just like @Nicole stated, I did not call until I hit 8 weeks which is unacceptable bc if I waited 6-8 weeks to pay then they would garnish my wages!
-
May 2, 2019 at 11:48 am #4326413Nicole
I also know they seem not to want to do anything until you keep calling or staying on them they wasn’t even gonna do anything if i hadn’t call the day after my 8 weeks were up
-
May 2, 2019 at 9:46 am #4326393Hodges
Thanks for the input. I will just wait, but not patiently!! This has been an experience! 1st year not owing NC and this! #UNACCEPRABLE
-
May 1, 2019 at 9:44 pm #4326366Nicole
@ Hodges
II know for a fact the 6-8 weeks does not start until you hit stage 1
-
May 1, 2019 at 6:24 pm #4326350Hodges
Same to you! Keep you posted on my progress!
-
May 1, 2019 at 1:57 pm #4326322
@Hodges
I filed 1/30 and have been processing since 2/26 and still nothing. I’ve called multiple times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong and to keep calling back at a later date.I really hope we get our refunds soon. This is ridiculous.
-
May 1, 2019 at 10:23 am #4326303Hodges
Was anyone else’s return accepted on March 27th and moved to processing on April 9th and is still being processed? I have called NCDOR and advised to wait until May 13th to reach out to them again. They were unable to tell me how often or when the system status updates and states that it varies. Sometimes when I log in it tells me that it hasn’t even begun processing!
Signed-VERY FRUSTRATED TAX FILER!
This is the first year I have been due a refund and not owed state any money and their NEW security measures have delayed it! -
April 30, 2019 at 10:20 am #4326124Craig
My refund went to stage 2, “we are working on issuing your refund”. It says it may take up to 3 weeks.
How long did it take for everyone else?

Nicole,

Nicole,
I called last Wednesday and they told me the same and would take about a week to go to the next stage. Hopefully I don’t have to call back this week SMH

April 29, 2019 at 10:49 am #4325970Nicole
Still at stage 1 from February 27. Was sent up for review today
-
April 29, 2019 at 10:05 am #4325958Kia
I just realized after browsing through NCDOR’s Facebook page that the “ enhanced identity protection” reason as to why refunds could be delayed, is the same reason they gave everyone last year but when proved by local news they “cannot discuss” these new measures in order to protect tax payers? Bahahaha. I don’t want to say I give up but they owe me over $500 so I don’t expect to see that anytime soon.
I’m still in stage 1 after 45 days not including weekends or holidays. So …. yeah. Hope everyone else has better luck.

April 29, 2019 at 7:51 am #4325941Mike
UPDATE
Was told Friday 4-26 that i was at stage 2 and that I should have my refund by Monday 4-29 if not there to call.
I called – Still at Stage 1 told that should wait the 12 weeks and that not showing any issues
The rep said that they really shouldnt email the review team until after 12 weeks have passed but is honoring the notes in the file
Was told after that I should wait 2-3 weeks before I should call back if my refund hasnt arrived and definetly call back if I havent received by refund by 5-29-19.
As 5-29-2019 would be the 12 week mark as my refund refund has been in stage 1 since 2-28-19
NEVER have i seen a mess like this.
The rep did say that this year this is common for refunds to take longer than 8 weeks

-

-
April 26, 2019 at 1:58 pm #4325701PissedOff
Aneesa. called today same as you. Moved to stage 1 on Feb 25. Told me it was being sent to the refund department for review and that there is no time table for a resolution. Could take as many as 15 days….. So filed on Feb 1, approved on Feb 1, Stage 1 on Feb 25, nothing since. No notes in file to say there is an issue. Today was 60 days since they do not count weekends.
Also, no interest until you are 45 days past April 15. You all know what they would do to us if we waited 60 weekdays after that April 15 to file. These people are jokes. Everyone you talk to tells you something different.

Had to mail in W2’s and Federal Return on 3/1Called at the beginning of April to make sure they had received my paperwork. They said they did (thankfully) and that everything looked good to go and my refund had been approved.
Still waiting on my refund. I called yesterday and a representative said they had placed a hold on my account but since my refund had been approved, it should have been lifted. The rep said she lifted the hold and I should see my refund from 7-10 days from yesterday.
We shall see! Online it still says I’m in Stage 1.
-
April 26, 2019 at 11:12 am #4325670Anessa M
I called this morning and asked rep why I have been in stage one since before 02/25 and she said “you’re right. Your refund should have moved to the next stage a long time ago. I am sending this to be reviewed and you should see movement in one week”. She still couldn’t tell me why I’ve been waiting for over 8 weeks when clearly the website says 15 days to move to the next stage AND there are so many of us here that seem to be in the same stage 1 boat smh
-
April 26, 2019 at 9:55 am #4325651
@kyo I have your same dates and mine went to stage 2 today. have you checked yours?
-
April 25, 2019 at 10:03 am #4325536Kristen
Called yesterday because return wasn’t even in a stage anymore. It was being processed since Feb 2nd, then yesterday it said it was just received and hasn’t begun processing. NCDOR told me to call Monday if it still hasn’t changed to request a review, even though they said there wasn’t anything wrong with it. WTF??
-
April 25, 2019 at 12:49 am #4325498
Still waiting on stage 1.

-
April 24, 2019 at 12:14 pm #4325421PissedOff
This department is a JOKE.
Filed on Feb 1. Accepted on Feb 1. Moved to stage 1 somewhere around March 1.
Called multiple times, told no issues, no notes on account.
Today they told me to call on Friday if I don’t have my refund because that is 60 days. If I don’t get it by then, then it will be sent to the audit department to process.
Is this just a ploy to delay issuing funds? I would think if there was an issue or an error, they would have contacted immediately. I’d be paying penalties if I waited 58 days after April 15th to file.
-
April 24, 2019 at 9:58 am #4325397Mike
WOW….
Accepted 2-8-19
Stage 1 – 2-28-2019Called multiple times
Called yesterday and was told my refund was approved and Stage 2 and if funds arent in my account by 4-29-19 to call back
Online still says stage 1 – was told it just hadnt updated yet
Checked this morning online and still stage 1 – called again
Was told I am still processing (stage 1) and that their system couldnt see where I had been approved yet and couldnt tell me why i was told i was at stage 2
8 weeks will be on 4-29-19 – per her and that yes it has been more than 45 days and I should be seeing interest on my refund
These people have ZERO CLUE.
GOOD LUCK
-
April 23, 2019 at 2:50 pm #4325297Anessa M
How are you all getting a rep on the line? I got one over a month ago and now it’s not giving me the option to talk to a rep. I filed and accepted 01/28 and I’ve been in stage one for over 8 weeks which is unacceptable. I got my fed on 02/25 and I was already in stage one then && still on stage 1!
-
April 23, 2019 at 9:22 am #4325250Allison
In doing some research to try and find out why my refund has been delayed. I found out that both the state and the IRS have 45 days to get you your money or they owe you interest. I spoke with a representative today who confirmed this. So to every one who is past their 45 days of waiting on a return make sure your state check is more then what you were initially told because they owe us that interest. If you did not receive any extra interest on your check then you need to contact NC secretary of state and ask where your interest is they owe you. Below is a clip from article I came across.
You will receive refund interest if the refund is not issued within 45 days from the date the original return was filed or the date the original return was due, whichever is later. Refund checks are written once a week. If you call our refund inquiry line and are informed that your check has not been written, please wait at least 7 days before calling back.

Stage 1 since February 28… I’ve talked to several people regarding this and it’s been determined that your 6-8weeks doesn’t start until you hit stage 1 unfortunately and it could take longer thsn 6-8…they can do what they want when they owe you but when you owe them they wanna garnish your wages and bank account
-
April 19, 2019 at 9:43 am #4324637Tj
And it’s crazy because my girlfriend got her state back a month after filing and I’ve seen some people on here get theirs relatively quickly.
What’s the determining factor here? I’ve filed years passed, I’m not a new resident, it’s not like I’m waiting on THOUSANDS of dollars, I guess they deploy a lottery system here in NC to decide who finally gets theirs. “Congraaaaaaatulations! You’ve just won the money you worked a 1/3 of everyday of your life for!”
What.

April 19, 2019 at 9:37 am #4324632Tj
Someone tried tellin me that they used a bunch of tax money to repair all the damage from those hurricanes last year and that returns are taking so long because they’re broke and are paying out as they get the money.
Idk how true that is but I wouldn’t put it passed NC and it’s 3 month refund wait.

The NCDOR is a damn joke I was accepted in January and have been in stage 1 for more than 70 days waste of time and good air to call these bunch of idiots if it was just a few minutes dollars it would be different but this is the largest refund I’ve never got
-

“Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052…”
It’s been 78 days since I filed. They told me to wait until Monday, and that it’s not 60 days from when I filed like the message says, but 60 days from when it’s accepted. They need to update their shit…why do they even bother answering the phones? Complete waste of
tax-payer money. They need to refund ALL of my state income tax. Bastards. Sorry, I’m pissed. -
April 16, 2019 at 7:52 am #4324019K
State accepted my return on 1/29.
Still in stage 1.
Every time I call the reps say, “Your refund has been approved but we don’t know when you’ll get it”.
That makes zero sense. I am livid. Might have to get a tax advocate on my side.

I find it funny that we have to explain and report our money to the government but they dont owe us any explanation for ours. God forbid if we don’t pay our taxes!
Meanwhile my first time filing taxes was 2016 and me filling last week was the first and only positive experience ive ever had.
2017 didnt work due to losing home and job to matthew
2018 I ended up owing which is why I waited so long to file
But most importantly i am currently still waiting for 2016 federal refund. I verified my identity back in 2017 still no one knows whats wrong. I been gave up -

I’m glad people are getting to Stage 2, but I don’t understand at all why some of us are in limbo. Someone below made it to Stage 2 in 4 days. Doesn’t make any sense! Today makes 7 weeks of being on Stage 1. Over the phone they just say everything is fine…what a joke!

@madone. No I never went to stage 3. I got to stage two one day and the next day it said sent to your bank. After that it was in my bank account via direct deposit.
I never called to inquire. Just read all the feedback here so didn’t bother as it seemed useless to call yo inquire. I was on stage 1 since March 3 timeframe however. A long wait before stage 2 then it seemed to have fast tracked.
I was accepted with the state 1/31.

From what I’ve been reading here it takes up to a week for it to be sent to your bank. I’ve seen some people get it the next day and others a week later here. Hopefully it deposits Monday. -

Just called today being it is right at 8 weeks today. They also stated by April 27th and electronically filed returns will now take up to 12 weeks. Not sure what is so magic about the April 27th date however it is very suspicious. No issues either with my return according to the rep I spoke with.

The state of NC is useless! Filed on Feb.1, not sure exact date moved to stage 1, but noticed on March 1, April 4 and still on stage 1. Called them and said there are no issues they just need more time, and the 8 weeks does not count weekends.
Also, the DOR website says they owe interest if it takes longer than 45 days from when you filed.

kyo – I’m back to 15 days as well. Still on stage 1. On the 22nd or 23rd they told me to call back the following Friday. I did that and then they told me to call back on another date! ROFL. They are so damn incompetent, it would be entertaining if it wasn’t our money they were holding hostage. I have a recording of the lady assuring me that they would escalate my case on the 26th if no movement. I’m tempted to call them and play it for them but deep down I know they would just tell me to f off, in a way that only the lovely ncdor knows how to.

I spoke to them this morning. They are saying to wait until the 15th to see if I move. If not call them because I’m probably stuck in processing “for some reason” and they will need to go in and do something.
-
March 29, 2019 at 8:08 pm #4320972Bryan
@ Gabe,
I will have to say the NCDOR is clearly playing games. Mine is going on 8 weeks. This is bullshitt! Everyone writing a check for money owed to them needs to issue a stop payment. Maybe they dont have enough money to fund all the unnecessary construction projects that are blocking the roadways, that’s why they are holding our refunds!
-
March 29, 2019 at 8:05 pm #4320971Terri
Just checked mines and it still states on stage 1. I hope this means both of you are getting a refund update soon. I have been on stage 1 since March 2
-
March 29, 2019 at 5:04 pm #4320917
@ Gabe
Mine says the same :( -
March 29, 2019 at 3:45 pm #4320904Gabe
Message is back to saying “Your return has not been processed. If you filed your return electronically and received an acknowledgement, your return has been received, but has not started processing”. I give up. I give a big middle finger to the NCDOR.

Man my return was accepted on 1/28 and its been 50+ days and there is zero change from stage 1. I am also direct deposit and I haven’t received a phone call or mail from NC regarding anything I might owe.
Is there a physical person we can talk to and not some automated bull crap?
-
March 26, 2019 at 1:49 am #4319940
I’m not going to bother calling them again. Already have 3 times and each time it’s something different.
-
March 26, 2019 at 1:14 am #4319939Gabe

Kyo – I called again today and was told again, by a different person that I needed to give it 8 weeks, and the 8 weeks would be up on Friday, the 29th. Maybe call them back to clarify?
-
March 25, 2019 at 5:49 pm #4319833

-
March 24, 2019 at 6:08 pm #4319627Gabe
Edith – 1-877-252-3052
Chris – I was told 8 weeks includes weekends. Think about it, if it did not, that would be over 10 weeks. After 45 days they owe us interest.
-
March 24, 2019 at 2:17 pm #4319611edith m Artis
What number do i call to speak to a human
-
March 23, 2019 at 7:29 pm #4319511Chris
Does 8 weeks count weekend days or is it just business days?
-
March 23, 2019 at 4:12 pm #4319480
I’m still on stage 1 since 2/26. Accepted 1/31. I called and got the wait 8 weeks crap.

-
March 23, 2019 at 2:15 pm #4319445Gabe
Can tell I’m one of the last holdouts, the posts have essentially ceased from people who haven’t moved to Stage 2 or 3 except for a few of us.. I’ve been on Stage 1 a month now. Going to call them again tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll just get the 8 weeks mumbo jumbo again. Nothing special about return this year. It’s not even very much. Need to renew the registration on my car (unlike NC, I don’t have the privilege of paying them whenever I feel like it…Crooks).
-
March 22, 2019 at 10:40 pm #4319271DT
I filled electronically through my accountant on 2/5. About 2/15 I went to stage 1, 2/26 stage 2, 3/8 I first saw the message the check had been mailed. 14 days later and no check.
Of course you kind of expect that with NC. The DOR are notoriously slow in issuing refunds and silly me forgot to move from a printed check to direct deposit this year.
Oh well, it may come sometime in the next 2 weeks.
-
March 20, 2019 at 10:20 pm #4318586Chris

Based upon the odd delays this year from the ncdor it appears they are trying to make the process overly complicated for tax payers to get their refunds. I have never seen a year with the delays and complexity like this before. I am pretty sure that our new governor that now has his hands in the pot after is first year in office is the root of the issues. That probably explains the complexity and delays. In working for a business years ago that had to deal with this governor, he was then attorney general, I can tell you it was a nightmare (stonewalling with overly complicated processes) and this is par for the course with him.
-
March 19, 2019 at 9:22 am #4317512K
Sent in return on 1/28
Accepted on 1/29Just received a “Request for more information” from NCDOR. Have to send in my W2’s and my complete federal return. I have such a simple return with no deductions or anything! This is so strange.
We’ll see what happens!

March 19, 2019 at 2:12 am #4317388Rachell

-
March 17, 2019 at 8:29 am #4316298Jes
Anyone who changed to the refund amount has changed. Did they take all your money? If not, was it approved and went to stage 2? This is ridiculous.
-
March 17, 2019 at 8:27 am #4316297Jes
This year has been crazy! I had the 60 day message first then a few days ago it went to the 15 day processing message. Now I woke up this morning and it says this: Your refund amount has changed. You will receive a notice explaining our adjustment. Please allow 15 days for delivery. If you do not receive a notice within 15 days, contact the Department at 1-877-252-3052.
We don’t owe the state any money! This is crazy.

I am incredibly frustrated. Online status said : refund mailed on 3/2 called ncdor on 3/12 because the refund hadn’t been received. She said the check wasn’t cut till 3/4. Its 3/16 status still reads refund mailed and still no check! Anyone else had an issue with a paper check or incorrect status of refund?

-
March 12, 2019 at 4:11 pm #4312376Gabe
Spoke to DOR on phone. They said there are no problems listed on my account. Filed 1/28, accepted 1/29, Stage 1 since 2/22. Asked why I am still in Stage 1 even though it’s been more than 15 days and was told “sometimes it takes longer to process than others.” If anyone is still in Stage 1 I suggest calling 1-877-252-3052 to make sure there are no issues/holds on your account. I didn’t have to wait on hold. NC DOR 1-877-252-3052 option 3 then follow the prompts.

This is what mine says
Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052. To reach an agent, DO NOT select 1 for refunds. Instead, select 5 for all other inquiries, then select 1 for individual income tax.
I filed 2/1. Went to stage 1 around 3/1

Just for other people inquiring I filed 2/5/2019 and it didn’t move to stage 1 until 3/1/2019 but moved to stage 2 3/6/2019 , I guess it all depends on any issues . Hoping it will move to stage 3 as fast as it did to stage 2 just to be done with this.
Hope all is well with everyone

I spoke with someone there this morning and was told it could be up to 8 weeks. Others have gotten there DD on the same day they move to stage 3. I’m waiting impatiently. Really need this to come through. -
March 8, 2019 at 4:57 pm #4310900Tommy
When your nc state refund goes into stage 2 does that mean its done processing and just waiting on it to be sent to the bank? I’ve been on stage 2 since Wednesday.

James – If your in stage 2 your refund amount has been approved. If there was a problem they would inform you of that during stage 1. Once they approve it on Stage 2 your fine. It is just a matter of them loading it to your card.
-
March 7, 2019 at 3:17 pm #4310284James

Were anyone on stage 1 for at least the 15 days and still went to stage 2 .However did you still receive your refund?
-
March 7, 2019 at 1:23 pm #4310212
@John Exactly! I’ve been there before and by the time I was updated to Stage 2, I had received a letter in the mail about owing money to the State. Plus, the message requested me to call in due to a change in my refund amount.
I am sure that you will see Stage 3 soon and money in the bank!
-
March 7, 2019 at 11:24 am #4310152John
@Erica So Stage 2 essentially means “We are preparing to send you your refund” and any sort of collection by the IRS would likely be between 1 and 2?
Thanks for your advice!
-
March 7, 2019 at 11:21 am #4310149
@John Once they update for Stage 2, that’s usually when they will inform you of any kind of issue(s). B/c the return has been processed at that time. So, it seems to me that you’re good!
-

I have a question. I owe some back taxes to the IRS. Obviously my federal taxes get put towards that, and I have read that so will my state taxes. However, last year my state taxes got put into my back, and for this year I am currently at Stage 2. Would they have been already taken before being sent to Stage 2? Or would that happen between Stage 2 and Stage 3? I am assuming if I make it to Stage 3, it means they sent the payment to my bank.

@Deb Mine switched over to Stage 2 on 3/4, as well. I am sure that it will be updated tonight. It seems to take anywhere from 3-4 days to update between Stage 2 and Stage 3. We will probably see it DD by Wednesday of next week (3/13).
I’ll be sure to update here when it changes.

Hope all is well with everyone -

Connie- Yeah, that’s all I’m thinking now I guess i just have to be patient until I get some other type of info
-
March 5, 2019 at 12:44 pm #4309331Connie
Q – you haven’t got a message saying there was an issue so no news is good news in this case. I hope your stage changes soon. It’s so frustrating. I check the site 2 or 3 times a day. I know they only update once every 24 hours. I just don’t know when that is.
-
March 5, 2019 at 12:35 pm #4309329Q
Connie- yeah I plan to when I call now it doesn’t give me an option to speak to a rep so I’m guessing since it hasn’t been 15 days they want me to wait not sure what’s going on last year I got my money around this time

2/4 – Filed
2/27 – Stage 1
3/2 – Stage 2Still on stage 2 as of today. I hope to move into stage 3 this week. It seems like from me reading everyone else post that it takes about 3 to 4 days to get from stage 2 to 3.
-
March 5, 2019 at 10:43 am #4309274Gabe
Does anyone know how NC processes? Do they go by date filed, date accepted, alphabetical order? I see people that filed much later than myself getting their refund deposited already, is why I ask. Trying to make sense of that part.
Q – what’s the first letter of your last name? Did you file married-filing-jointly?
-
March 5, 2019 at 10:08 am #4309254sarah
the money also hit my account today, so the final date process, for me, looked like:
filed 1/28
accepted – 1/29
stage 1 – 2/22
stage 2 – 2/26
advised funds sent to bank – 3/1
money in my account 3/5that makes it about 36 days compared to last year, which took 31, but i also filed a little later in the year last year. i hope everyone gets their money in a timely fashion. if no issues, i would allow at least a month to a month and a half before expecting to see anything. to those with delays… that sucks.

-
March 4, 2019 at 1:06 pm #4308906sarah
ashley – i don’t remember for sure, but i was only on that stage for a few days.
ash – thats what i was thinking, i know they only send deposits 1 day a week
kayla – from past experience and other comments on here, it doesn’t look like it should have much impact on the timing of the process, just the amount of your refund.
-
March 4, 2019 at 11:45 am #4308871Kayla
When it says refund amount changed, and nothing else what does that even mean? I called and all they said it was an unpaid parking ticket for an expired meter. Does it effect the stages or update beyond that?

Also been stuck on stage 1 since the 22nd. Most of our federal was offset for a student loan, so we’re going through the “injured spouse” process to get that back, so wouldn’t surprise me to see something happen to state too.

It’s sad and comical at the same time that this thread gets ZERO attention until late Feb. – early March. North Carolinian’s already know it’s gonna be a while before there is any resemblance of movement.
With that being said, I hope everyone has a super SMOOTH tax season!

Has anyone who filed later (after extension), have an update on their refund status?
-
June 19, 2018 at 9:54 am #4248019Tom
Well, here it is June 19th of 2018. Filed my state back in late January. Since February, mine has been stuck on stage 1. Why? Don’t know. When I called, they stated everything looks fine. So if everything looks fine, what’s the hold up? Of course, I get the generic answer. I hope they throw in some interest. They would if I was late.
-
June 5, 2018 at 11:58 pm #4247577Myriam
Hi!
I filled my taxes by Feb. 6th, it is still in stage 1. I’ve called twice. A gentleman answered the first time and said it should move to stage 2 any time and I would receive my deposit in two weeks. That was three weeks ago. I called again and a lady did not even took the time to research and said it was in stage 1 that I should wait. I’m pissed already they are trying to fool me! It is more than 8 weeks already and 45 days. I guess I must be refunded with late fees right? Plus, is there anything else I should do? -

@Tim
I filed and was accepted January 29th 2018… Just went to stage 2 today. So much for 8 weeks!! I figure maybe I’ll get my return by Christmas at this point. -
May 4, 2018 at 5:10 pm #4246189Misty
I just checked mine, again. I called Wednesday and they told me it was approved and it was being requested to release funds. I should receive it by Monday. Just now, I checked again, and it said it has been sent to my bank. So, I may luck into it tomorrow, but maybe Monday as they said because it’s a weekend. If you’ve been told it’s been approved, hang in there. It’s slow progress, but at least it is progressing.
-
May 4, 2018 at 5:06 pm #4246188Misty
@Hannah. I suggest you call and ask as well. It seems to be the O my thing advancing people further in the refund process.

May 4, 2018 at 5:05 pm #4246187Misty
@Sebastion
You will most likely have to call to get them to advance you to the next stage. Most people wait 8 weeks from the day they hit stage 1. They will put you on hold and most likely tell you when hey come back on the line that it’s been approved (unless you owe the state and they’ve modified the amount) and you should see it by a certain day. They say call back if it isn’t received by that date. Seems like they only submit the request to release funds after you call.
877-252-3052
That’s the number that connects you to an actual human if you hit the right button. I believe the first selection is 5. Good luck. -

I filed my state taxes about February 16th and I still haven’t gotten my refund on May 4th. Also, it says it’s still in Stage one. What could be going on here?

I filed on turbo tax on February 14 I haven’t received my state refund yet I be been on stage one for almost two months and it says up to 15 days to move to the next stage I got my Federal refund the 23 of February so I’m curious to see where’s it is . It’s been more than eight weeks

@misty,
I’m glad to hear you have heard some progress. I think I was told the same thing as you, just in different words. Once I thought about the rep telling me if I don’t have mine in 10 days to call back, I know it says it can take up to 10 days once approved. Also good to hear that Jacinda was told the same thing about “emailing someone”. Mine didn’t move to stage 2 the next day, but it finally does seem like there is movement from the state to finally start processing returns. Will keep y’all posted on if I do get mine within 10 days of them emailing someone.

So, yesterday marked 8 weeks of processing on stage 1. Today, we called in and the gentleman said that it had been approved, but no one ever submitted it to the next stage. You know, the pay out. So, many people are calling to find out it had been approved and the funds just hadn’t been released yet. I, for one, am shocked. Our refund should be in our acct by Monday. Let’s see. I will update you on Monday. (Sooner, if by miracle, they are released earlier)
It’s grievous at best that you have to call in after 8 weeks to get them to finalize that process. -

update-
accepted 1/28, finally went into stage 1 to be processed on 2/23. been in stage 1 ever since then. have called multiple times, and they said I have to wait the 8 weeks from 2/23. so after 4/23 rolled around, no change, i called again yesterday, and they escalated my case/emailed someone to look at it. And I woke up this morning to being in stage 2. So hopefully it goes fast now. Hope this helps!

Been in stage 1 since march 2nd. No updates at all. I havent tried calling since its only a couple hundred bucks but would be nice to get it and blow it on a night drinking downtown.
Cant remember NC ever taking this long before.

May 1, 2018 at 11:24 am #4245891Tim
So just another update from me. I’ve been in stage 1 over a month now, and I called to check to see if there was a delay. The rep said she was sending an email to get it in motion or see if there is an issue. Was told If I don’t have deposit in 2 weeks to call back. So I don’t know if that disclaimer is going to be true. But I will keep you guys posted. If anyone else has been in stage one since or before 3/30/18 and has received your refund, if you can let me know when you got it I would appreciate it.

@ Corey, try this number, (877) 252-3052. I think this is the one I called. Of course it has automated prompts when you call, and you might have to try a few different ways that will actually get you to someone who you can talk too. But I really do wish you luck, as it seems everyone on here who has called has just got the run around and told to call back next week. I am one of those people also. If you do find out any “real info” please share. I have been in stage 1 since 3/30/18, which is when my “up to 8 weeks to process” started. But you have been in stage 1 for 8 weeks pretty much, so hopefully they will get you good soon. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

April 26, 2018 at 9:00 pm #4245636Tim
So just an update from me. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks since I hit stage 1, and to no surprise I am still in stage 1. Twice then longer they save it could take. Also saw this on the news today about how the NCDOR made a huge mistake money wise and have to reImburse fees for the extra payments, along with any overdrafts or issues that resulted from the extra money they took. Just something else that obviously isn’t going to help speed up the process for any filings to happen faster. Can check out the link, North Carolina tax agency duplicated thousands of payments

@ Tim
Write* Im just so darn mad, They know people are going to file , garnished wages throughout the year if they are not going to have to the money but not everyone owes. Some people actually pay their taxes and try to do the right thing and seems they’re the ones being punished. Its simply wrong.
-
April 24, 2018 at 10:40 am #4245386Lisa
That is exactly what they did when I called and they said oh it has been a while and yest this is week 3 that I am having to call back and still nothing
I am about to right my Mayor’s office or something because this is ridiculous! -
April 19, 2018 at 4:18 pm #4245111Tim
Lisa, your 8 weeks began on 3/2 when it went into stage 1. So I imagine they are just going to give you the run around until the end of this month. You’re close to 8 weeks from 3/2, so hopefully you get your money soon. If you haven’t got it after 8 weeks from then, I would definitely call, and not accept “call back next week” as answer. Try to get the right person who can tell you why it’s taken longer then they say it “could take”

just called again and was told to call back next week .This is ridiculous I am passed all deadlines and timeframes and am getting nowhere
bad enough, I owed and they were deducting from my check for six months and debt was cleared before I filed my taxes so I dont owe them anymore money but yet, they hold what they owe me -
April 18, 2018 at 11:09 am #4244957Lisa
My return has been saying stage 1 for over 30 days, I have surpassed my 8 weeks and still have yet to hear anything about my return. I called last week only to hear call back next week and that it is still processing. Clearly they do not abide by their own words because i am passed the 8 weeks from date of acceptance. I am not sure what is going on with the NCDOR but I need answers!

April 18, 2018 at 10:23 am #4244943K
In the past, I’ve mailed in my NC return (because the refund amount was so small and didn’t justify me paying to e-file). I had a slightly unusual tax situation in 2017, so I used a CPA this year, and he e-filed both my Federal and State returns.
I don’t know the exact date he e-filed (it was either 3/16 or 3/19). My Federal refund was deposited within a week. My NC return went into Stage 1 on 4/10. It hit Stage 2 on 4/12 and Stage 3 on 4/13. My refund was much less than yours, Misty and Tim, so maybe they are holding onto the higher dollar refunds.
-
April 17, 2018 at 10:40 am #4244813Tim
I mistyped that and sounded stupid. Meant to say “I didn’t even think about it”. Anyways, it does make sense to me that the state would drag it out past the deadline just so they can start receiving payments for taxes owed. Then I bet all of a sudden the stages will actually move at the pace they say. I worked in VA also for last year, and they had my taxes approved, done, and funds sent in like 2-3 days. Actually got my VA return before my fed. Federal is fast with theirs. I’m glad that I will just have VA to deal with after this return from here on.
-
April 17, 2018 at 10:32 am #4244812Tim
Misty, thanks for the response. I am also owed almost 1k. I didn’t even think about that the about it, but the state may be taking longer to “process” the higher amounts owed so they can take in money that’s owed to them. Also known as Ponzi scheme. It just doesn’t make sense that it would take 3 months(if it takes 8 weeks from when stage 1 hit) to process my taxes. I bet if I owed 1k, they’d process it overnight and be sending me the bill next day.
-
April 17, 2018 at 12:31 am #4244785Misty
@Tim
I too, heard it takes up to 8 weeks from the day it hits stage one. I was accepted Feb 6th and went to stage 1on March 2nd. I’ve been in stage 1 for 6 weeks as of today and there’s no answers from NC DOR except call back after the full 8 weeks if it has not progressed to the next stage. The only thing I can say is to hang in there. We are due over $900 and I’m sure they are holding a lot of people’s returns expecting to collect the interest on it. Even the wonderful Governor Cooper has commented on here that we should feel lucky to even get a return this year and not to expect one at all next year. It’s ridiculous.
-
April 16, 2018 at 7:26 pm #4244770Tim
I was also told that it can take up to 8 weeks from when stage 1 starts. Is there anyone out there that was also told this that has gone to a further stage, or actually received their return? Mine was accepted on 2/28/18, hit stage 1 on 3/30/18, and on 4/16/18 I was told that the processing time is when it shows in stage 1, not when accepted. I am just trying to get a realistic answer/expectation besides in can take 8 weeks. I’ve been in stage 1 for 3 days more then the site says it can take. Any reply would be appreciated, and I will post any updates I get along the way.

@emily or anyone. How long does it take to actually hit bank? I just got was changed to stage 3 on Friday, April 13, 2018, and am wondering if it should be there tomorrow morning or does it typically take longer?
Filed – 03/13/18 with turbo tax
Accepted – stage 1 around 04/06/18
Stage 2 – 4/10/18
Stage 3 – 4/14/18 -waiting to be deposited in bank via DD. -
April 4, 2018 at 5:04 pm #4243661jacinda
Called and spoke with someone. I filed on 1/28 and was accepted 1/29 by state. The lady said they did not start “processing” the return, even though it had been accepted, until 2/23!! Almost a month later. She said that is the date they ask you to give them 8 weeks to process from. So apparently the end of April is when I can expect to see my return! Wow. I have also heard that they have to start paying interest after 45 days, so it would be in their best interest to process it asap.
-

April 4, 2018 at 2:25 pm #4243645Graham
Filed my state taxes Feb 11. Got my federal return back in exactly a week. As of today, (4/4) I have still not received my NC tax return. I’ve tried calling multiple times and haven’t gotten in touch with a single helpful person. It moved to Stage 1 about 2 weeks ago. To say the people of NCDOR are idiots would be a disservice to more respectable idiots everywhere. As far as tax return processes go, NC is space ages behind everybody else.

March 28, 2018 at 8:56 pm #4242838Will
Filed on 2/1.
Accepted by NC on 2/2.
I have checked the site numerous times and it went into stage 1 on 3/6.When I called the (877) number yesterday, I was told that I should be at least in stage 2 but she wasn’t sure and was told to call back today (3/28).
Called again today asking for status update because it has been more than 15 days, only to be told that it may be up to 8 weeks to process.I said that the site stated 15 days to move to next stage but she only kept repeating that its up to 8 weeks. I figured that I wasn’t getting anywhere with her so I just hung up.
Clearly, she was waiting for 6pm and didn’t care to at least try to look into the problem. -

Finally after almost 8 weeks Thursday would have made 8 weeks since I filed and they accepted it. Our refund was deposited this morning, but here’s the kick the site never updated me to Stage 2 or 3. I’m still in stage 1 on there. So if I were you I would call in and find out what’s going on and they could possibly tell you if they actually sent it to the bank or not because not everybody is updating on the refund site

I finally went from stage 2 (refund approved) to stage 3 (refund issued to my bank) on the same day, Friday 3/23. It says it can take 10 days to process and show up in my bank?? Anyone that has already received their DD for NC- how long does it take for the refund to show in your bank after they issue the refund? 10 days seems to be an extreme amount of time for a direct deposit to “process”…

Filed 2/8 electonically through H&R Block. NC refund still not received/processed. The least that NCDOR can do is verify that my refund was received, even if it takes 8 weeks to process. And let’s be honest, there is NO FREAKING WAY it takes 8 weeks to process anything in 2018. C’mon man.
I am guessing there is an unstated system at play here. As my pending refund is rather substantial, I am going to speculate that it is systemically shuffled to the bottom :)

Hooray, it progressed to stage 2 around 1am today, 3/13!
As a reference, e-filed and accepted 2/4, stage 1 on 3/9.
It looks like when the stage 1 message changes from “up to 15 days to process” to “call if it has been 60 days” may be hint that it’s about to progress to stage 2.

March 12, 2018 at 5:13 pm #4239024Patrick
e-filed and accepted 2/4, had my federal refund a while ago. It went to stage 1 3/9 saying it may take up to 15 days to process.
This morning, while still in stage 1, the message changed to the following: “Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052. To reach an agent, DO NOT select 1 for refunds. Instead, select 5 for all other inquiries, then select 1 for individual income tax.”
So, I called NC DOR and a rep told me that it might be on its way to being approved in stage 2. She saw no calculation errors.
Has anyone seen their message changed while in stage 1?

March 9, 2018 at 2:10 pm #4238122Ashlyn
It didn’t used to be this way,I remember three years ago getting both federal, and state in less than ten days, then they said they were putting stricter rules (??)
In place ,last year we filed 1-31,got federal feb 8,state March 7,so its most definitely weird now -
March 9, 2018 at 1:09 pm #4238087Patrick
I think the language is pretty tricky and it may work in favor of the state. As the state clearly says it can take up to 8-12 weeks to process returns which is clearly beyond 45 days (6 weeks and 3 days), they could be counting effectively from the due date of 4/17.
Fundamentally, the fact that NC requires 8-12 weeks to complete processing out this state as almost the longest. Question is why in the first place? One should organize a class action lawsuit/complaint against the state in order to get them to move faster in the future.
I have just been so disappointed with this state. I now miss Illinois’ efficiency in handling refunds. Also, the NC DOR is gouging us on high taxation on automobiles. There is no such thing as automobile property tax in Illinois. Here I pay upwards of upper $300s for each of my 3 vehicles. Highway robbery, indeed!
-
March 9, 2018 at 9:44 am #4237941Chris
Just a quick point on the 45 day interest rule, they pay interest “45 days from the date the original return was filed or the date the original return was due, whichever is later.” The due date for tax returns this year is April 17, 2018.
So if you filed before March 3rd, they are not required to pay interest until after the 17th of April. If you file after March 3rd, then it’s 45 days from the day you file. Just wanted to clear that up before anyone gets their hopes up!

@Bonnie: Thank you for the information about the state issuing interest after 45 days.
Folks – State website says so here: https://www.ncdor.gov/taxes/individual-income-tax/general-refund-information
Granted 45 days a little bit over 6 weeks is still a long time, but it’s good to know there is a safeguard that we won’t be strung along indefinitely. It just pains me to think that Fed and most other states can issue refund much sooner than NC state. Wish there were collective complaints to force the state to change the inefficient and seemingly deliberately slow system.

It’s so amazing how when you owe the State of NC they want their money then and will take it out your bank account but when they owe you these suckers take forever. I filed on 1/28/18. My refund was accepted on 1/30/18. I have yet to receive my NC refund as of 3/6/18. I checked the status this morning and my refund was approved and I needed to wait an additional three weeks before receiving my refund. I received my federal taxes two weeks after filing. There is a special place in hell for these people.

Went to stage 3 Saturday morning, haven’t received anything yet all it says was sent to bank. How long does it usually take to get it?

Same here, e-filed and accepted 2/4. NC hasn’t processed yet. Deposited the federal check today. Sigh, another day goes by with no progress on state…
-
March 5, 2018 at 5:34 pm #4235812cait
I filed with turbotax (like I do every year) on 2/1. They were accepted immediately and I got my federal return on 2/14. The NC site says that my refund hasn’t even been processed yet.
-
March 5, 2018 at 4:48 pm #4235792
Just received the NC refund on my NetSpend card. Glad I’m all done for this year…
-
March 5, 2018 at 2:36 pm #4235691
Doesn’t actually say Stage 3. It says “Your refund has been issued to the bank account provided on your return and should be processed within 10 days. Please contact your bank for a record of the deposit.”
Either way I still haven’t seen a NetSpend deposit yet and the status updated either last Thursday or Friday.
I think they update the status before they actually release the funds.

-
March 3, 2018 at 5:58 pm #4235072
I filed my Fed and State on 1/24. Fed accepted the same day, NC accepted almost a week after.
Fed refund received on 2/16
NC status just updated to stage 3 (refund sent to bank) Friday morning after more than a month after filing.
How long do they actually take? I got my refund on my Netspend card the same day as my 846 code on my transcript.
Why is NC so painfully @#/%! Slow year after year.?
-
March 3, 2018 at 9:14 am #4234915Ashlyn
I efiled 2-2, have not updated at all,so I called yesterday,gentleman very nice,told me they are experiencing delays,last year filed 1-31,received 3-7
-
March 3, 2018 at 8:54 am #4234905Bonnie
For all you beautiful people waiting for your return from NC, remember they have to pay interest of any refund not processed in 45 days.
-
March 3, 2018 at 8:52 am #4234903Bonnie
My return was accepted on 2/2, still no response from NC Department of Taxation, this is ridiculous.
-
March 2, 2018 at 10:51 pm #4234754Charles
NC is slow every year, but this year is stacking up to be even slower. . .
Here’s my numbers…
Filed state and federal returns at the same time on 1/30. . .
Federal accepted my return 1h 54m after filing. . .
NC return accepted 2 days later on 2/1/2018
Federal refund was deposited 2/7 (quicker than previous years by 4 days)
As of tonight (3/2) my NC return status still shows as not processed..
-
March 2, 2018 at 3:20 pm #4234534tina
I filed January 20
Stage 1 02/20
Stage 2 02/27Stage 3 03/02 sent to the bank
Has anyone received it in the bank yet???
-
March 2, 2018 at 2:55 pm #4234519
So TT says my return was accepted 2/2, and NC is reporting it as still not processed. Anyone else in the same boat? They usually take a long time, but I feel like it’s taking longer this year.
-
March 2, 2018 at 1:42 pm #4234469Laura
Status update as of today 3/2/18 stage 3
Your refund has been issued to the bank account provided on your return and should be processed within 10 days. Please contact your bank for a record of the deposit.
Filed 1/23
1/31 accepted
2/20 stage 1
2/27 stage 2 -
March 2, 2018 at 1:30 pm #4234464Patrick
@Mimmor: Since we both have the same accepted date of Feb 4, I feel a little better to know that we are in the same “unprocessed” boat. My federal check was sent 2 days ago.
@LH: Glad that you’ve advanced to stage 1 :-) Hopefully, the stage 2 is quicker.
http://www.savingtoinvest.com/average-irs-and-state-tax-refund-and-processing-times/ indicates that NC is among the slowest state in processing the returns. I can’t understand why it takes them about a month to begin processing. What has NCDOR been doing to our returns in the mean time? My guess is they let our returns sit and hang on to our refund money a bit longer! Federal has a lot more tax returns to process and yet they can do this much faster than NC. NCDOR should be ashamed of themselves!!!
-
March 2, 2018 at 8:21 am #4234261LH
Fed already deposit
NC accepted Jan.31, 2018
Stage one-3-1-18Has anyone received their NC refund yet? How long do you stay in stage 1?

-
February 26, 2018 at 9:37 pm #4231863Ash
I have achieved “Stage 1” status! Seems they are running a week or so behind in comparison to last year.
-
February 23, 2018 at 12:19 am #4229887
Sounds normal for NC to me. It’s like this every year. Seems to take them about 4 weeks to acknowledge my return on their website. Then it takes another 2 or 3 weeks to get my return.
-
February 21, 2018 at 8:28 pm #4228143Patrick
I filed on 2/4 and TurboTax said the state of NC has accepted the return. Today is 2/21, NCDOR WMR still says “Your return has not been processed.” NC probably is one of the slowest states processing income tax returns. Now, I miss Illinois where I lived for 31 years and it would acknowledge receiving the return and complete processing the refund much faster than NC. In Illinois, I never had to pay vehicle property taxes and paid a low flat about $110 for license plate sticker. Here, the NCDMV charges me over $850 for highway use tax and $390 for registration for a car I bought 3 weeks ago. I have 4 cars, NC has robbed me big time! Sorry, I know I’m venting but it’s very frustrating, indeed!
-
February 20, 2018 at 11:19 am #4225118Stephanie
I filled mine on 2/7/18 and Free Tax USA stated it was accepted. However when I go into where’s my NC refund site it states that it hasn’t been processed yet. That doesn’t make sense to me. My federal is due to come on the 22nd and usually I get state before my federal. Is anyone else having this issue?
-
February 20, 2018 at 9:12 am #4224923Laura
My state was accepted on 1/31/18.
Everyday I checked, it said same thing “your return has not been processed”
Today 2/20/18 it says I am in stage one and may take up to 15 days to process. -
February 20, 2018 at 8:54 am #4224908Emily H
I submitted to NC 3 weeks ago. When I check status, it doesn’t even show as accepted? What is up with that? Per the TurboTax website, the state WAS accepted. I don’t get it.
-
February 12, 2018 at 6:09 pm #4214661Ash
I accidentally put my federal refund amount into the refund amount box while checking my state. It didn’t even provide me with an error message! Not very reassuring for NC!
-
February 1, 2018 at 1:33 am #4202592Tom
Mine was accepted as well
-
January 31, 2018 at 5:55 pm #4202407Lindset

Soon nobody will be getting a tax in NC. Enjoy it while you get them.

June 5, 2017 at 11:17 pm #4196914RipS
Filed April 1, NC accepted. Received Federal refund within 8 days. As of today, I have NOTHING from NC. I have been stuck in stage 1 for weeks now. This is utterly ridiculous, and there’s no mentioning on the NCDOR website about the delay in general. The news media doesn’t cover it either. Any update as to what is going on in NC would be appreciated!
-
April 18, 2017 at 12:48 pm #4195438Steve11

Hello team
So I guess anyone that was here previously when I was posting has moved on and spent their refunds and will not see this note until 2018…
But
after many months I have a change in status! Here is my timeline for educational/archival purposes:
Day 1(1/31/17): Filed Federal and NC
Day 1: Returns both marked as received
Day 8(2/7): Received federal deposit(1 week from filing!! awesome)
Day 26(2/25) Moved to Stage 1 for NC
…
Day 73(4/13): Status changed from Stage 1 to…’Stage 1 but please call this number if it has been more than 60 days…’At that point I decided that I probably was being audited or something and lost my desire to hunt down my status
Day 74(today) I check it to find the phone number and see this:
Your return is in Stage 2. We are working to issue your refund. Please allow up to 3 weeks to receive your refund.
Hopefully this moves a little more swiftly… Cross your fingers for me folks, and good luck to anyone left!
-
April 13, 2017 at 12:50 pm #4195178Austin
Filed and accepted for state refund 3/8. Move to Stage 1 on 3/27. Today April 13 is the 17th day without anymore movement. So much for the 15 day window. Anyone else having same issue?
-
April 3, 2017 at 3:39 pm #4194579LN
I filed 2/26 and got my federal refund very quickly. I just checked my NC state refund, and it says it’s still in stage 1. It says, “Your return is in Stage 1. Your tax return is currently being processed. It may take up to 15 days for your return to move to the next stage of processing.” 15 days?! It’s been over a month! I filed electronically through TurboTax, and I knew NC was slow, but I can’t believe it’s taking this long. I’m a student overseas and need to transfer the money soon! Typical NC. Absolutely ridiculous.
-

I just called and asked the agent exactly what does stage 2 mean and she told me that it means that it has been approved and they are waiting on it to go in pay status. apparently the acceptance stage when you initially file does not guarantee approval.

Good luck everyone

Never have waited this long for a NC State Refund Pretty Ridiculous…. Filed Feb. 4th state & federal with Turbo Tax. Approved for both on Feb. 4th. DD of federal was received into my bank on Feb. 10th. Been waiting forever for the state to drop DD. What is the holdup peeps?
MARCH 3rd I WAS FINALLY IN FOR STATE 1, THEN STAGE 2 ON MARCH 7th, and today as of MARCH 9th I’m still in STAGE 2. IT’S NOW OFFICIALLY 34 DAYS SINCE I FILED AND ALL WAS APPROVED. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW? -

My stairs updated Monday 3/6 evening to “Your refund has been issued to the bank account provided on your return and should be processed within 10 days. Please contact your bank for a record of the deposit.”.
I’ve checked my bank, but it hasn’t posted yet & isn’t pending either.
But in all — hopeful for Thursday 3/9! -

I filed Jan.27th excepted the same day. I finally got to stage 1 on Feb 21rst. Stage 2 march 3rd. It seems like others are moving faster that done theirs after me. They already got checked mailed or a dd. I figured mine would be on stage 3 by now.
-
March 4, 2017 at 9:31 am #4188957NC-Rez
This morning (Sat 3/4/17), my refund status changed to “Your refund check has been mailed. Please allow additional time for delivery.”…. I’m thinking Monday or Tuesday it’ll change to the DD message, and I should still have my refund around Thursday.
-
March 3, 2017 at 11:27 pm #4188882
Filed on Feb 1. Until Monday Feb. 27 it said had not processed. On Feb. 28 I was stage 1. March 2 Stage 2 and I just checked It now says Check mailed. I am supposed to get DD. We shall see …..
-
March 3, 2017 at 2:30 pm #4188726Andre
Filed on 2/1 and was accepted the next day.
Afters weeeks of waiting, refund finally entered stage 1 on 3/1, stage 2 on 3/2, and checked just now and says “Your refund check has been mailed. Please allow additional time for delivery”. Seems as if they’re beginning to move a bit faster. How long does it take DD to drop? I need the money for tuition deposit so I’m a bit on edge
-
March 2, 2017 at 10:34 am #4188377
I received a DD on 2/28/17 and although my bank usually shows pending deposits, it did not show a pending DD for the state refund. Also, I requested funds to be deposited into a different account than my federal but it was actually deposited into the account where my federal was deposited into, very strange. I filed online through H&R block, 1/27/17 and accepted 1/27/17.
-
March 2, 2017 at 10:14 am #4188374
I never got an actial date for deposit. Only that within 10 days message. And bank never listed an incoming direct deposit either. My refund showed up within 2 days after message tho. I bank with Bb&t.
It was exactly a month > 30 days from filling to deposit.
Hope u get ur money soon too -
March 2, 2017 at 8:47 am #4188354Macaroni
Any one else receiving DD from NC tax refunds yet?
-
March 1, 2017 at 1:26 pm #4188138NC-Rez
I e-filed in the evening of Monday January 30 (7:45pm). Requested DD through Wells Fargo on both returns.
Federal Return was accepted Monday 1/30/17 at 7:56pm.
NC State Return was accepted Tuesday 1/31/17 at 4:41 amFederal Return was delayed to due EIC, but finally approved 2/17/17. Fed Return was noted as “Your tax refund is scheduled to be sent to your bank by February 22, 2017.”
Federal Return was received/posted via DD Wednesday 2/22/17.NC State Return hit Stage 1 on Friday 2/24/17.
NC State Return hit Stage 2 on Wednesday 3/1/17.Based on other timelines I see, I should estimate a 6-business-day span before receiving DD (which would be Thursday 3/9). Will follow up with additional status changes as they occur.

Kendra, you may need to call and find out about that. If you don’t owe anyone, it may be a mistake on their part.

Mine NC Refund went from Processing to Stage 1 last week and when I checked it today it says
“You Refund has a Changed. A Notice will be sent within 15 days”.What does that mean that they kept my entire refund? I do not owe anything to the state or anyone else so they have no reason to keep my refund?
-
February 27, 2017 at 5:59 pm #4187540
Update: My DD went through this afternoon.
-
February 27, 2017 at 11:58 am #4187371

Thanks for sharing LEH. I filed on 1/27 and was accepted the same day. I went ahead and checked my refund status again after it said the check was mailed and my status updated to what you have. Hopefully we get it this week.

Yay, a change!
Filed : 1/31

NC Stage 1 : 2/25Just updated today I think
Your return is in Stage 1. Your tax return is currently being processed. It may take up to 15 days for your return to move to the next stage of processing.
Good news to me!
-
February 25, 2017 at 9:13 pm #4186644
Hey I have the refund has been mailed too.
I did a little research and that’s just what they post. If u chose direct deposit instead of check they’ll deposit it into account listed on return.
I remember last year. They never listed exact deposit date, it just showed up in my bank account. May be the same this year. -
February 25, 2017 at 8:11 pm #4186638
Tigger, my status changed to stage 1 on Monday (2/20) and by Friday evening (2/24) it had updated to check mailed. So five working days for me.
-
February 25, 2017 at 7:34 pm #4186628Tigger
Kelly- business days or regular days?
-
February 25, 2017 at 7:02 pm #4186622
Tigger-it took about 5 days to move from Stage 2 to a check has been mailed.
-
February 25, 2017 at 6:53 pm #4186619Tigger
I got the stage 2 message yesterday… how long until it updates to status saying the check has been mailed!?
-
February 25, 2017 at 6:34 pm #4186615mel
Mine also said a check has been mailed.. I chose direct deposit..??? are they mailing it? I dont live at the address on my tax form anymore, thats why I chose direct deposit.
-
February 25, 2017 at 10:58 am #4186420
Once my return processed, I moved from stage 1 and 2 pretty quickly. Now the NC refund inquiry website says my refund has been mailed but I’m confused by this since I requested direct deposit. Hoping it just a computer glitch.
-
February 25, 2017 at 10:58 am #4186300
I efiled on 1/23, accepted on 1/25. Message finally changed today from Step 2 to: Your refund check has been mailed. Please allow additional time for delivery. I selected DD, does this mean they are sending me a paper check?
-
February 24, 2017 at 1:59 pm #4186187Lorraine
Had this message this morning: **Your return is in Stage 2. We are working to issue your refund. Please allow up to 3 weeks to receive your refund.
This afternoon changed to :
Your refund check has been mailed. Please allow additional time for delivery.Just wondering when it will tell me that it has been DD.
-
February 24, 2017 at 12:50 pm #4186151MEH
My NC refund status now says it is in stage 2. I wonder how long that will take? I filed 1/28 and was accepted the same day. Last year i think it was much faster than this.
-
February 24, 2017 at 11:11 am #4186116Jessica
Just want to say that NC drives me CRAZY!! What should be a simple process takes 6-8 weeks at best! They must have 10 people handling all of the returns….
-
February 24, 2017 at 2:36 am #4185913Chverz
Just checked and status went from
Your return is in stage 1. Please allow this stage to take up to 15 days
To
Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052. To reach an agent, DO NOT select 1 for refunds. Instead, select 5 for all other inquiries, then select 1 for individual income tax.
I filed on 1/28 and was accepted for federal same day and NC and MI on 1/29
Like what in the hell is going on at the NCDOR???
It took me 7 days to get my federal and MI refunds… is this their way of saying they’re close to depositing my refund or are they really that incompetent that it’s going to take them that long to send people their money ?!? -
February 23, 2017 at 9:07 am #4185323
Got the youre refund is in stage 2 message today I was accepted on 1/26/17.

MY status has changed to stage 2, how long does this process take? I have lived in several states and this one is probably the longest, I had to file partial year with another state and couldn’t do it until a week after I flied North Carolina and I already received my refund from there.
-
February 22, 2017 at 11:41 pm #4184912Macaroni
I checked today on the NC state refund website and my status changed from “Your return is in Stage 1. Your tax return is currently being processed. It may take up to 15 days for your return to move to the next stage of processing.”
to
“Your return is in Stage 1. If it has been more than 60 days since you filed your return, please call 1-877-252-3052. To reach an agent, DO NOT select 1 for refunds. Instead, select 5 for all other inquiries, then select 1 for individual income tax.
I had the first message yesterday and now the second message today. I guess that’s something, right?
-
February 21, 2017 at 3:37 pm #4182068Jennifer
Today I got the message “Your return is in Stage 1. Your tax return is currently being processed. It may take up to 15 days for your return to move to the next stage of processing.”
I filed on January 27th, got accepted on January 30th. I have already received my federal (after 10 days), and SC (after 14 days). Still nothing from NC. So glad this is my last year with NC taxes!!
-
February 21, 2017 at 3:23 pm #4182040SonniE
@Haley Ward
I bank with SECU. They don’t hold or show pending deposits. If I have a deposit like from payroll, they usually show it 4am or 5am on whatever day it suppose to be sent.

I finally got the Stage 1 message this morning. I filed on January 27.

Anyone know if State Employees Credit Union updates deposits overnight? The local branch told me they never “hold” deposits but thats not really what i was asking lol like some banks show deposits after a certain time. Also wandering if they show on weekends?
been accepted since 1/25 still processing -
February 17, 2017 at 10:28 am #4175620Jessica
Been accepted for two weeks now…no changes. Still not processed…maybe one year they will speed up their process!

Liz,
When did you file? Just wondering time frame, I filed on 1/26/17
NC took a month last year, seems to be the new norm now -
February 15, 2017 at 8:02 am #4170954Liz
New update!!
“Your return is in Stage 1. Your tax return is currently being processed. It may take up to 15 days for your return to move to the next stage of processing.”
-
February 14, 2017 at 10:55 am #4169557
Just a heads up, they did change the message as has been noted on a previous post.
That said, it doesnt matter if I type in my SSN and refund amount, or random numbers… I get the same message:
Your return has not been processed. If you filed your return electronically and received an acknowledgement, your return has been received, but has not started processing. If you mailed a paper return, it may take an average of 6 weeks for your return to begin processing. If it has been more than 12 weeks, follow the steps for sending a duplicate return.
Is anyone getting anything different? Just want to know if the system is just that poorly built… I am guessing they dont bother to update your status at all unless your return is processed and finalized.
Anyone gotten a refund in NC?
Filed 1/31, got my federal refund last Tues. No word on NC :(

So how long does NC take to start processing returns? It isn’t as if they’re NYS giving back tons of money why does it take so long?
-
March 19, 2019 at 5:02 pm #4317738LC
Thanks Phil glad to know I’m not alone. That also tells me it isn’t a us mail issue but an ncdor issue.
-
February 11, 2017 at 8:23 am #4167245Dannie
Still nothing for NC. This state has truely become a disappointment. I think it’s time to move, and not just because of refund.
-
February 6, 2017 at 7:09 pm #4160096Macaroni
Hi. I filed and was accepted on 1/27. NC is extremely slow when it comes to processing. Last year it took a month to get a refund. I’m expecting the same time frame this year.
-
February 6, 2017 at 4:28 pm #4159998
Hello. We filed our NC taxes on 1/26/17. They were accepted these same day. Nothing since says has not been processed. Has anyone received them yet or got to next step.
-
February 1, 2017 at 9:52 am #4156362Carrie Shoup
Submitted 1/23. Accepted at like 2am on 1/24. Here’s the message I keep getting.
“Your 2016 tax return has not been processed. Refunds are being processed and checks/direct deposits are going out every week. We are working as quickly as possible to issue refunds, as long as they do not have errors or require review. We update refund information by 6 PM daily. Your refund information will remain the same throughout the day. Please wait at least 24 hours before inquiring again”
No problems with it because I received my Federal refund this morning. No EIC. No additional child tax. Nothing. Frustrated to say the least. Why are they always so slow??
-
January 31, 2017 at 8:11 pm #4156059Macaroni
NC is definitely slow when it comes to refunds.
-
January 31, 2017 at 10:16 am #4155696karen

January 27, 2017 at 11:00 am #4153560Macaroni
Update: I was able to efile this morning. HRB fixed it and now the option to efile appeared.
-
January 27, 2017 at 12:12 am #4153317Macaroni
Has anyone had an issue filing the NC state tax? I filed online with H&R Block and it only filed my federal and not the state. There’s an issue with HRB.

Finally!!!
> Individual > Electronic Services
Where’s My Refund?
IMPORTANT: The Department’s average response time for issuing a refund is approximately six weeks from when NCDOR receives a taxpayer’s return.
Response time should be calculated from the date NCDOR acknowledges receipt of the return, not the date when the return was mailed or electronically submitted by the taxpayer.
Paper return filers should allow additional time for mailing and processing. Processing can be delayed based on heavy volume, poor print quality or errors made by the taxpayer.
If you have not received your refund within twelve weeks from the date your return was submitted to NCDOR, please contact the department at 1-877-252-3052.
In peak processing periods (returns filed closer to the deadline), the time required for issuing refunds may increase due to larger volume.Thank you for filing electronically. Your 2015 refund check has been written. Please allow additional time for delivery.

My NC state return was accepted on 1/28. Like many of you WMR changed from “We have received…” to “Please call…”. Saturday it changed to the “Thank you for filing electronically, blah blah refund check mailed…” I opted for DD. So, I am not sure if I should look for a check or DD. Either way I know it was approved so I can just wait on it..lol
-
February 28, 2016 at 9:10 am #4144522Tee

Has anyone else noticed at the top of the page it says
IMPORTANT: The Department’s average response time for issuing a refund is approximately six weeks from when NCDOR receives a taxpayer’s return.
I’m just wondering if that’s always been there or not, last few years I’ve got NC refund back before Fed. I filled on 2/1 and got Fed back on 2/10, still nothing on state. I am glad to know that other people are in the same boat because I was afraid they had found something wrong with my return or something was going on.

Called this morning about the message regarding refund amount. They verified some info and then told me that there are no issues as of right now with my return, that its now processing and to keep a check on WMR and it will be updated soon with deposit info.

@Felicia Yes, it seems like it’s not indicative of a problem.

@Karen, we seem to be. I am hoping that since the previous message meant return was processing maybe this one means DD or check being made. I looked at my previous refund deposits and they were either on a Tues or Thurs…so hopefully we see funds this week. I will post another update if I get message update or DD.

@Taylor Same here. Changed from the call message to the not done processing message. You and I are probably in the same batch. We seem to be updating the messages at the same times.

Update: I called the dept this morning regarding the message to call about you refund amout. I was told by the agent that everything was fine and that the system was giving that reponse when a return was being processed. I hope this helps. Still no deposit. :(

@taylor I waited less than 5 minutes. I called around 9:00am, so they were probably just opening up.

My NC return was accepted on the 29th of January. Still no news . WMRNC says it hasn’t been processed yet. last year I filed at the same time had my refund before now. IDK what the hold up is this year.

@CityQueen: Thanks for the update. How long did you have to wait to speak to an agent?

I got that same message to call them regarding my refund. I called yesterday and spoke to an agent. I just gave her my ssn, dob, and address and she pulled it up. Says nothings wrong the system is giving everybody that’s almost finished that message. She said the refunds should be issued very soon, just didn’t know exactly when. Sounded more like an ID verify to me.

I called this morning to see if I could get some info to share, however nothing new. The wait time was too long I was on the line for 30 mins waiting on an agent. If anyone else was directed to call to discuss refund amount and got through please post an update.

@karen, thanks for the update. I decided not to call because I did not want to get any disappointing news. If it is DD by weekend, I will post again.

Thanks Taylor!
I looked around online after posting that. It appears to be a poorly worded version of “It’s done. You might get it tomorrow, or you might get it in 3-4 weeks”. Hopefully this means we’ll see it sooner, rather than later. -

@Karen. I just checked mine this morning and I recieved the same message. I too did not have an issue with my Federal.

Got this today….
Anyone else? I didn’t have any issues getting my federal. Not sure what this is about. Please call 1-877-252-3052 for assistance about your refund amount. Select individual income tax and listen for the refund option to speak with an agent.
** Please do not call 1-877-252-4052 as instructed during the main greeting. This number will provide you with the same information received through this online inquiry.**

Thanks; at least we know we’re not alone. Still not processed, as of this morning. With the Winter storm, I’m not expecting movement today. Maybe later this week.

I filed 1/29 and it is still being processed. This year has, so far, been the worst for tax refunds. Normally ours moves along with our federal return but our federal return finally moved and state hasn’t.

I was accepted on 28-JAN-2016, as of today still says “has not been processed.”

NC State was accepted on 1/28 (sent 1/19), but haven’t heard a word since.
Anyone received anything from NC yet? They seem to really be taking their time this year. -

Nothing here either. Filed on 2/8. It would be nice to receive my state one day as I owe nothing.

Nothing here… surprised more aren’t in the NC forum as they seem to be slow as can be.
