I haven’t seen any movement either, from reading other forums and threads it seems like there are many of us who were accepted from 1/30 – 2/2 that have been stuck on processing .

I filed my MN refund and federal on February 4th. I received my federal on February 19th. My state taxes have been processing for the whole time. I have called my tax preparation guy and he is confused. I have called the state 4 times and they won’t tell me anything. I know 8 people that have filed after me and they have received both state and federal so it’s starting to piss me off. Does anyone know who I can call to get answers for this situation? Had a letter arrive asking to send in my 1099 and documentation of expenses. I just mailed all of it on 3/26. I’m assuming this is because I’m self employed. Anyone else have to do this?

I was showing processing for weeks and am suddenly now back at “received.” What?! No information from the state at all. This is crap. My daughter filed at the same time as me and got her state refund at the same time as her federal. I got my federal weeks ago now.

Just wait till Corona Virus shuts down Minnesota Department of Treasury and who knows how long before we get our return I filled my taxes January 4th got Federal weeks ago still processing Minnesota.

@Sam The real holdup was because my employer did not send in my W2’s on-time. Once I provided the proof they finally did thats when the ball started rolling. The hardship letter just moved me to the top of the list. You can get a Tax Advocate but it is once in a lifetime with the MN State. So I just faxed in the hardship letter to the same agent. Your hardship letter should just contain any valid hardship that fits. Just make sure it is a real hardship.

@Sam I sent in my W2 and pay slips like they asked. They placed them in my file and told me on Tuesday I will be finished in about 3 weeks. So I sent in a hardship letter from my dependents Dr. and the very next day the agent called me and told me she processed my return as filed and to watch WMR. Friday it updated to preparing refund.

@Sam WMR will update and say a letter was sent if they do send one. Usually it updates about 2 days after the letter was sent.

@Trysten Nope, you need that letter. They will ask for the last 4 digits of the letter ID. But you can fax the information, it does not have to be mailed. I got my letter last Saturday. They wanted my W2, last 3 paystubs. But I also sent them a hardship letter for good measure. I was informed today Quote “the docs were reviewed and my return was processed as filed, please check WMR daily for updates” end quote. I am assuming that that means it was completed and approved.

I file my on the first day open (Jan 27th) and 3 weeks later I got my Federal but MN State refund still show Processing until now. It’s been more than month already. This is first time happen to me and I don’t see any mail coming either.

@Sam. Well I got a letter requesting my W2 and last 3 paystubs. Seems my employer filed my W2 late with the SSA. But I sent those in plus advised them that the SSA has in-fact now acknowledged my W2. MN said they put it in the system, but until now I am stuck on we sent a letter. This is absolutely insane. Ultimately they cannot, absolutely not approve it, since I worked, paid taxes and have a valid w2 to show that. I just dont know why they are dragging their feet

@HLJ There are people who filed a week ago and they have already gotten their State. They told me yesterday there was nothing noted, no notices or letters and that no examiner had even looked it yet. So I can only guess, many of the bigger returns they set aside for a later date, unless you have an offset.

@HLJ No they never give a reason why. I called them yesterday just to check in and they said no one has looked at it yet. I can’t imagine to put a pair of human eyes on every single return, if thats the case, then how do they decide whos family credit return on $1,100 they will look at first?

@HLJ Well, I go through this every year. I always get my State in late March or Mid April. Every single year I do this, except last year. Last year was 4 days from filing to refund sent. And that is only because I had $186 collections for an unpaid parking ticket. So I do not expect anything for at least another month. Thats my deal every single year.

@wade123 totally agree about our refund tracker being better than WMR. Since it updates every day and at different times too. Bummer you have no changes :(

I am still on processing. No letters and no messages on refund tracker. The one good thing about our refund tracker vs. WMR is it actually updates any day of the week, and it will tell you a letter has been sent. Even if it tells you a day or 2 late at least it does not leave you completely blinded like WMR. And if I did get a letter then I would be surprised, since I already had a full audit in 2017.

@Tiredofwaiting They cant discuss any letters. They are actually telling the truth that they need the code on the letter to open it. It is like a PDF file with a password. Only a supervisor can open it. In 2017 that happened to me. I was out of the country and it took a month before a supervisor would even take the case. Best bet is to have someone run to your mailbox and take a picture of the letter to send you.

So I check my status and it says they mailed out a letter 2/14. Only problem is I am out of state until May and it has been taking weeks for my mail to forward. I tried calling to see what they wanted and they said they can’t say anything. Is it most likely a letter to verify my identity? I did change banks this year. Are there other letters they “can’t discuss” ? Thanks 1

@Ashley depends on what bank you have. Usually your only on preparing status for 24-48 and you’ll get a ddd. If your preparing then I would be checking your bank for that to clear -

@Kallie It depends on what the letter is for. Maybe you need to ID verity and you can do that online. Go to the link provided and enter the code on the letter, maybe they want more info, you might be able to just fax it in. In my case I live 15 minutes away in St. Paul so I just go there in person. But in any case you wont even get them to open youfile and discuss anything without that PIN in the letter.

@Kallie Yep, I got a letter 3 years ago because I claimed school expenses of $235. Learned to never claim anything again. It held me up until May. But you need that letter because it has a code on it that you need to verify.

I tried to be proactive and let them know that I am receiving a letter in the mail today but I have class and won’t be able to get it to the mailbox and if I can assist this to prevent any further delay. The person told me I need to get the letter first 🙄

@Kallie I wish I had a letter. At least I would know something. If it was ID verify, than thats super fast online, and within a day or 2 you should update to preparing refund. But I am stuck in processing for probably another month.

@A. Evans it is precisely because of that very big family working credit they take extra time to review many returns. I usually take 1-3 months to get my refund with the 45 day maek being average.

Sounds like someone is a little triggered. There should be a standardized process for across the agency. I have been claiming the same dependents every year with the same two employers. There shouldn’t be a hold up.

All I know is ever since I started e-filing with Taxact about 12 years ago it has been up and down. Back in the day I usually saw my return within 7-10 days. Up until 2015. 2015 it was 92 days. 2016 is 103 days, 2017 it was 91 days, 2018 94 days. Last year was a fluke. It was 4 days from filing to refund sent. It is also the only year I have owed the state money for a little parking ticket that went to collections. Wow, they processed me in 4 days to make sure they got that, now this year I am prolly back on the 90 day range. I have come to expect it. so I am never disappointed I guess. Well time to go to KwikTrip and get some pop.

Tax refunds are not promised or guaranteed by any date so people should not be complaining after waiting one week. Seriously people, one week? It will arrive when it arrives. In the meantime go out and do something, enjoy a crisp morning, take a walk, read a good book. If you are having money problems and counting on your return to cure them, that is unfortunate but not the problem of the people that process returns. If they still have not been sent after a couple couple of months then I can understand complaints. The government has seriously been cutting jobs in this and other sectors so please cut these workers some slack.

Ugh. I e-filed on 1/23. Started processing the first day they opened. Still processing as of this morning… So annoying because I really need the money. This is my first year filing in MN, is that possibly why it’s taking so long?

My state was accepted on January 27th. Then got a letter mailed on 2-10 to verify my identity and that I indeed filed my return. Verified on 2-12. FINALLY says preparing refund! I did change my bank account this year and also my tax preparer software. MN is taking extra precautions this year to protect people from fraud.

@Kiwi Many filed before 2/4, on 2/4, and many after, that are still on processing. Some have their money already, some have moved to preparing refund or refund sent. MN be tripping this year, no rhyme or reason lol

@Jesus Yes I’ve filed an amended return in the past. Waited until after I got my original returns back though, so they wouldn’t be held up. It was a fairly easy process, and I ended up getting a small bonus refund out of it.

Yea i may have gotten it fast this year and previous years but last year it took 2 months. So its just completely hit or miss no matter your situation, when u file, etc. They just do what they want when they want. Like a toddler haha -

@Kallie Yeah, I dont think there is any system in place of consistency. It is just hit or miss, and for most of us it is miss more times than not. Of course there will always be the one or 2 that chime in, “oh i get it fast every year”. Good for them. For most of us, it is a long wait and never consistent year after year.

@wade123 I believe last year it was well over a month but the year prior I believe within 7 days. This year I changed from a daily to a weekly as my cycle date changed from a 04 to a 05. I guess we’ll just play the waiting game.

@Kallie I am not really sure why. There will always be a few that get it fast, a few that get it slow based on big and small but out the millions of taxpayers that dont come to this site I wonder what their experience is. All I know is my experience. I have gone back and checked. in 2012, I got it 7 days after filing. 2013 I got it 6 days after filing, 2014 I got it 9 days after filing, 2015 I got it 6 days after filing. 2016 I got 3 months after filing because i added school credits and I was audited, but still got the full refund. 2017 I got it 83 days after filing, 2018 I got it 68 days after filing, 2019 i got it 4 days, and thats because I had a collections from the state I am sure of, and now, i filed 1/13. accepted 1/27, went to processing 1/28 and am stuck there ever since. It seems ever since the Fed started their PATH MN has also shifted from an average 1 week to 1-2 months. At least when I look back on my history, the long years coincide with the passing of PATH at least for me. And clearly they do NOT process them on a first come first serve no matter what they say.

I think I had this issue last year but my refund was as big as it was this year🤷🏽♀️ I did earn more – I would have to compare last years return. I am jelly though you got it 5 days. Nothing changed in my dependents or employers. Same information other than earnings.

I have a large refund every year and this year its even larger and it only took 5 days to go from filing to refund sent so I’m not sure that thats the issue. -

@Kallie. Yes that is the case. I get the working family credit so it is big every year. And every year they take extra time to review it because of that credit. Also every year they feel free to adjust it a little all on their own. It usually comes in less than what was filed. They end up sending a letter saying it was adjusted because the working family credit was miscalculated by my tax software. But that is BS. The tax software bases it on the forms Minnesota provides to them. No wonder we have a surplus every year!!! The only time I got my refund from MNDOR fast was last year. 4 days, that’s right 4 days!!! from filing to refund sent. And that was only because I had a small parking ticket that my little town sent to collections. So its always better to have a small collections by the state and boom!!! you process real fast so they can get theirs. Otherwise we wait 1-3 months

Some people took 2-3 days before it moved to step 4. But if it helps…I checked mine at 7am and it was at step 3 and an hour later it moved to step 4. So you could check it throughout the day. Either way it takes a couple days to reach your bank after your refund status moves to Sent. -

I just checked online and it updated to sent. It was an adjusted amount as I had a feeling a small debt would be taken from my MN refund. It says they mailed a letter saying why my amount was adjusted. I should have a small MN debt every year so I get my refund so fast haha -

I stay away from tax advocates. I did that one in 2017. and I got an instant reply from the state. A letter saying I was audited. I got my full refund and it was determined no audit was necessary in JUNE!!!

@Jessica. Like I said, unless you have an offset and owe them something they will take 2 months every single year. I don’t think they have a computer system that processes them like the IRS. I honestly think they hand review every single return and it is done in no particular order, no matter what they say. Thats why only 5 people report preparing refund in the first week and the rest are WTF?

Last year it took over a month it was ludicrous. I really hope this year will be faster. Last year it stayed on processing that whole month and didn’t change to preparing or refund sent until I got in touch with a Taxpayer Advocate!

Last year I was accepted 1/28, processing 1/29, preparing refund 1/30 refund sent 1/31. 4 days. But I realize it is the first time ever it went that fast. Then I got a letter saying it was adjusted for a unpaid parking ticket that went to collections. Its always better to owe them even a few dollars because they process and refund instantly to get their money. But I do not owe them anything this year, so I will wait 2 months like I always have to. If you dont make the preparing refund class in the first week, it will be a long 2-3 months wait. Unbelievable how inefficient they are.
But… to answer your question, preparing refund to refund sent is usually only 1 business day, the rest is entirely up to your bank. Every bank is different on when and how fast they post it.

Last year I filed 1/26. Was accepted 1/27, went to processing 1/28 and on 1/30 went to preparing refund. Refund was sent 1/31 and DD on Feb 1. I was wondering how they did it so fast. Then I saw my refund was $158 less than what it should have been. Got a letter a couple days later saying my refund was adjusted due to an unpaid parking ticket. Found out that was the wife who hid it because she was afraid i would get mad and she forgot about it. So when you have an offset and owe them money they receive, process and refund in 4 days. But when they owe you, 2 months!!!! yep every year for the past 4 or 5 years its an average of 2 months waiting for my state refund. I am sure i owe nothing this year so i am expecting end of March.

We e-filed our taxes on March 15th. We received our federal a month later but received a letter from MN requesting we go online and type in a code so they could verify we were the actual filers… Simple enough. My husband and I did what we were asked to do in the beginning of April. We are now in the beginning of June! My husband called the State and was told they have what was needed and that it didn’t look like any other letters are going out. If that’s the case why are we still waiting?!

My taxes were prepared by a private accountant that charges alot of money. My taxes were accepted 2/19/2019, still in processing phase. I am a small business owner had to send in B.C for kids last year, still nothing. I have called 6 times , MN revenue just reads their script to deflect you about getting a reasonable response. All proper forms sent as accountants typically handle that properly, never had delay before accept last year with kids. This clearly appears to be a Minnesota revenue thing this year with almost everybody , seems like 7-10 people almost are delayed. WTF is going on with this state?? People depend on their returns for living , house repairs, business upgrades, kids college funds etc.
This is ridiculous. I am not out of processing bar yet, no letters, revenue stated no letters were drafted one out of the 6 calls. I am just glad I am not the only one dealing with Minneaota revenue.

Oh boy! Good for you, finally!! I got last remaining stuff faxed yesterday so the lady said she should get it done processing today. I should hope to be as lucky as you monmon and get my refund within 6 days like you and actually have it before our warm sunny vacation next week!

Talked to the state tax lady I was assigned and she said shes just waiting on my husbands ex to fax her paper over and then our refund will be sent. So once her fax is sent today, it’ll be about a day or 2 before it updates. Ugh im so tired of jumping thru hoops when I did nothing wrong. At least its just about over!

I think for the id verify, there isnt a listed person to call since its not an audit or review. They dont need documents for id verify so she might have to end up just calling and asking thru the regular line.

Instead of calling the mn revenue number did you contact the person who is in charge of your documents? They have a separate number that is there for you to call and reach them personally.

I filed on 2/6 and went was accepted on 2/7. I also received a letter to verify my identity on 2/26 and already did that. Since then, nothing.

I finally called again. The guy said yes it’s just been sitting here awhile and no letters have been sent. So he is going to put in a request for someone to look at it and see what’s going on. He said if in the next 2 weeks the system doesn’t update showing a refund date or a letter being sent to call back. Gosh I hope it just gives me a refund date and I get my money!

Update** I called and spoke to the review person listed on our letter. She stated that we have enough kids to qualify for the family credit and we could just remove the 2 kids in question that had an issue from another parent and our refund would stay the same. So instead of sending in info for those 2 kids, I just have to fax her a letter stating to remove them and we’re all good to go. There was a fax number on the letter so no snail mail required. So what was a scary and overwhelming amount of paperwork needed turned into a simple fix. Whew! Dodged a bullet there!

Our letter is asking for divorce decree/child support decree and for the amount of overnights we have my husbands children and my own. They want us to fill out the letter with responses and return. Its for the working family credit.

I called them to see if they received my stuff and if they have an update for me, well nope they didn’t even know if they got it ? I sent it last Thursday express mail they should have gotten it by Friday… I really hate how unorganized this is …. I didn’t spend 25 dollars just for nothing …

Once I get my letter, if they need documents, i’m gonna call and see if I can fax them or scan them over. We shouldnt have to snail mail shit when we’ve already filed electronically. This is so frustrating.

So I got “lucky” and was one of the very few who got in the boat to verify all my W2 earnings were true, I have to send in my husband and I paystubs for the end of the year as we made less income than last year with me going to school now.

Check the mail when u get home. The letter will tell u what info they need. Either send them the info if its documents or call them with the info if its to ID verify. Done and done. You’re good. -
Hi again! So Ive decided I’ve waited long enough so I finally called today and spoke to someone at the MN revenue dept. He said he sees I filed back on 2/15 and as of now, theres no red flags, no errors, no outstanding balance owed and no additional information required. Its just still processing and he said that he sees no reason that it shouldnt be processed at some point hopefully soon. Thought I would just give an update on what I heard today. Good luck everyone!

My state refund was accepted on Feb 2. I received a letter on March 25 saying I had to send over my 1099 form and childcare expenses for my self employment. She received them on March 27th and I checked WMR on today April 2 and it’s finally at Preparing refund….Thank God!!!

Been a while since I checked in, I filed for hardship and the tax advocate notified I got a letter, he emailed me it and I had to verify my identity and I also had to show proof of the education credit I took for the kids, I also had a Recapture but that is being forgiven just for this tax time due to hardship I still owe it but these taxes are safe. I have faxed all documents needed for education stuff I had. The state is very picky about records and some things are very unclear. So I am sure there will be a few adjustments. It’s crazy how long this takes and how many are being audited this year for things on the education deductions or credit. So I filed Feb 3 have a hardship and still am waiting. So I received my letter today and it said because I filed self employment because of my license in home Daycare I have to send in my 1099 form and proof of expenses….whewwww! I also am self employed whereas he has w2s. I am sick of waiting. I wonder how many waiting will get a letter. Seems they are going down the line. Last week was end of January. 30 days. I’ve never seen state take so long before. Called and spoke to a rep and they said the same that I’m reading “there’s no pending holds/flags, it’s just taking time”. Lol I bet when you owe the state it’s faster. My friend owed the state and hers was processed and withheld in 5 days, and we filed at the same time.

They can take your returns for any past due amounts that are owed to certain hospitals, state ran things or child support or student loans. In my case I had no clue that there was even Bill’s out there. They are granting me my hardship so I will get my return but thankfully my insurance will take care of the outstanding bill as they never submitted it to insurance. -
I called a few weeks ago and was told I have no holds on my refund and nothing was wrong. Just returns are taking awhile. I hope yours goes smoothly with your hardship!

So I called a Tax advocate today, At first he went through the spiel that refunds can take up to 3 months this year due to l the fraud. I asked if I qualified for a Hardship, Being I am having a major medical crisis and need meds and dr visits and my Bill’s? I do. However when he looked into my file there was a couple ambulance Bill’s on there. One for daughter and one for me, One they didnt even run through my medical ins so it would have taken almost my entire refund. I had no clue I had either of these Bill’s my daughters should have been paid by my ex and mine should have been billed to ins and then the rest sent to me. He said a lot of refunds are sitting because of things like medical bills and student loans etc. I just wanted to let ya’all know to maybe check if that could be part of your issue. I was never notified about either of these Bill’s I have a feeling my daughters bill went to my ex but because I am the parent on her medical forms it’s me they came after when he didnt respond. My own bill was from March 2018 and I got the initial bill for 2200 and called and gave them my ins info as my ins pays out 90% so of course I would do that. I think its messed up because nobody sent me anything about these Bill’s before hand or I would have taken care of them especially the one my ins can pay most of. So that’s my update, I will get my hardship hopefully and it takes about a week or so. Hopefully the state moves on this quickly. If you need a hardship their rules are on Minnesota Revenue. And you only get one in a lifetime. Good luck everyone I hope your waiting is just due to the fraud issues. I’m glad I called or they would have taken 2700 of my refund and I would have had to go through a long process to get my money back for a ambulance ride that should have been paid for.

Ft Myers is a great place! Has all the fun shops, ice cream stores, restaurants, close to sanibel island (20 min) which is an entire island created from seashells and the #1 place in the world for shell picking as its the only island that faces a certain direction so all the shells land there. Its accessible by car and the cutest island for little shops. Lovers key beach is down the road from ft myers beach which is a protected sanctuary that u can trolley or walk to the beach from the parking lot. They have kayaking, paddle boarding in the sanctuary as well for a close up to small alligators or manatees if its the right time of year.

Ft myers is great and less expensive. Its close to lovers key beach and sanctuary which you can trolley or walk to the beach and paddle board/kayak the sanctuary part as well, sanibel island which is accessible by car and is the #1 place in the world for shelling as the island is made from shells! Ft myers beach has all the shops you can imagine, restaurants, ice cream parlors etc. Our kids looooved ft myers area. Siesta key beach is about an hour north of ft myers, best beach ever! Also in sarasota (20min north of siesta key) is the Mote Marine Aquarium. Extremely recommended for the kids! It was just amazing!

Im not sure if they do but I believe they may have one near ft myers when I was first going there 3 yrs ago. Near ft myers theres also a place called everglade wonder gardens..kinda small but u can hand feed flamingos and throw food to some alligators. Kids liked it a lot. Its not huge but its in bonita springs. The mote marine aquarium in sarasota is a MUST for the kids! Ive been to many large aquariums in the US and the Mote was by far my favorite. Even has a giant squid preserved!

Ft myers is best, close to sanibel island (by car), lovers key beach and sanctuary, Sarasota mote marine aquarium and siesta key beach. Definitely look those up! Our kids love it and we did too!

Or orlando if you’re looking for busch gardens, universal studios (awesome!), ripleys believe it or not, sea world and of course the overpriced disneyworld. I also highly suggest using airbnb as u can rent a house for cheaper than a hotel. I do it for every florida trip.

Yea that definitely would be nice to be debt free! We took 4 of our kids to Florida last april and let just say thats the reason we’re going alone this april haha. It was fun but it was stressful too keeping track of them all.

Still nothing. So frustated! I should have waited to have my surgery and cancer treatment till I had the money. Granted I get short term disabilty but I am still waiting for that as well. All my savings have been spent on my cancer treatment and living as this is my second battle in less then 3 yrs. I just wish the state would let us all know what is going on..I have never waited more then 15 days.

Hi, just wanted to follow up for those still waiting. I’ve called 5 times and got the same answer that it takes time. Don’t hesitate to call them. I told them I need the assurance of a live person to see if there have been letters sent, etc. Earlier in this thread someone posted a link to an advocate office for the state of Minnesota and I called them as well to find out if there is a limit of time that we have to wait. They told me that there is no law that says they have to process these returns by a certain time but if you are having a hardship they can, one time only, process your taxes in an expedited manner but you have to show proof of that hardship which might be something similar to eviction or something like that. Just FYI

I filed my taxes they were accepted on January 30th, I got my federal on the 2/27/2019. My state finally changed over today 3/6/2019 to preparing refund. I’ve never had to wait this long for a state return. Thanks Mark Dayton.

Christine- you could try calling and verifying that they recieved it and at the same time, ask how long their verify process takes before refund approves. Typically for reviews they say 45 days to process.

I am still waiting and got a letter saying I am under review. They requested my North Dakota taxes. I live in North Dakota and work in Minnesota. Anyone have any idea how long it takes to process refund once yournin review? I sent the document back to them the day after I received the letter and still no update it’s been a week now.

Me either I always got my state within 7 to 14 days. Granted I am getting the biggest refund I ever have from the state but I am now a single working mom with two teens and claimed zero. I just want it to be done I’m out on disability for the next 6 weeks or more having cancer treatment and while I get paid I am waiting for the company to pay me. Ugh. The money would make me feel better. -

We filed our Minnesota taxes on 29th of January and it was accepted on 29th of January and we are still in the processing phase. Ugh. I check the site every night to look at the status and I called three times and as of today the gentleman said it still processing and there has been no letter sent. We got our federal taxes last week! I asked him when somebody can actually go look at it maybe it’s caught in the computer (LOL) and he said we never look you’ll just have to wait. Grrrr

I got a letter yesterday saying my return is under review and I had to fax my w2 and pay stubs. I maybe it’s because I forgot a w2 for a job I worked for 2 weeks into January last year. They said to allow 3 weeks to finish processing and I usually get my state in3-5 days

I did get one a few years ago due to a similar situation. You should get it as soon as their system is back up as long as they have gotten the funds already -
So ironically, I should have gotten my state refund today but my banks entire system crashed and they cant see nor release any deposits until it gets fixed. So I cant even see or know if I have it or not! How frustrating to actually have a hold up that ISNT due to the state or IRS haha. Anyone know or ever recieved a tax refund, state or federal, on a Saturday?

Yup fees were taken from my state. I only know that because I logged into republic bank and seen what was sent to me so I checked the fees summary. They are paid. I did finally get my state though!! Abbott an hour ago! I can’t recieved my state before federal in years so I thought it read only federal to.. but nope. It is whichever one goes through first.

I filed on the 21st of January, and still on processing so I called the taxpayer advocate line and she said they sent out a a letter last week(I never received such letter), and that I needed to verify identity. Where’s my refund still doesn’t reflect a letter being sent out, and a letter coming from Minnesota shouldn’t take a week to get to me. They are resending and hopefully all gets straightened out after I verify my identity.

@himesMN04 I had fees taken from my refund through Turbo Tax, but they always come out of my federal. The Netspend care I use is issued through Bancorp Bank, not Metabank like a lot of them are. I wonder if that has something to do with the delay?

I filed on Feb 3, both my IRS and State have been processing since. I did get the EITC this year and a hefty amount from both State and Federal. I do have a offset for a Student loan that my Ex was supposed to take care of and had not yet so they will take my the amount owed from I am assuming my federal taxes and then direct deposit the rest. Please pray for them to go through soon. I am on short term disabilty and going through Cancer treatment and surgery at Mayo next week. I could really use the money till my work short term disabilty goes through and its 60 percent of my income so I am praying that this money will help. I feel a bit better knowing I am not the only one. My mom and friends got theirs in a week although much less then what I get? Maybe larger amounts take longer?

If you have an offset due to state debt, student loan debt, tax debt (not tax debt to the IRS), and other state and government agencies they’ll offset your refund for it.
I owed a little bit on a student loan yet and they offset it today for the amount. Which also means the tax money was sent my way.

I’m still stuck on preparing refund as well. I had checked sat morning around 1245am and it was still processing. When i woke up around 645am it switched to preparing finally but stuck there now. Last year I remember it went from preparing refund on 28th at 429pm.. than the 1st about 730am it switched to refund sent. Why in the world is it taking so long this year to switch steps for some of us!! I don’t owe anything anywhere. This is ridiculous

I’ve been at “preparing return” since Saturday morning. Has anyone been to that stage on WMR and received a letter or not received their return? It’s been years since I was entitled to a state return, and the last time I was I vaguely remember updating on WMR to all “bars” then getting a letter saying I had an offset. My memory could be off though, this would have been six or seven years ago.

I haven’t received anything and nothing is on wmr. I don’t wanna call and give them a reason to flag me. Last year I had to get a tax advocate and did a hardship for them to give me my refund. Weeks passed and I had no codes and no letter. I am hoping I don’t have the same issues this year. -

Mine says it is processing still. Been that way since 1/28. Still just says I will be in this stage the longest and do not need to take any action even though I received an email from my advocate that I needed to provide proof of my 4 mo th old baby being my dependent. @Mary. They automatically adjust me refund every single year. You will know because It will say refund sent on 4th bar and it will tell you the ammount of your refund with a message saying they sent a letter explaining the adjustment.

Finally got my letter. It was for the k12 education credits. When we moved, I lost literally half of my belongings, because we had a short 4 weeks to be out. I called the man and explained that to him and that I dont have proofs at this time. He told me to send the voucher back with a note and they would adjust it, which is fine. I asked if I needed to claim hardship with a tax advocate, but he said that he will make note in the system and it should take just an extra day or two to process. So. With that being said, I’m happy to finally be getting somewhere. I hope that my explanation was good enough for them. My question now, is how do I check WMR to find out if its moving again? Since they’re going to adjust the amount, how will I know what the new amount is? Or do I just look with the original?

So I never got my letter so it told me to call by today. I called. Spoke to a man named Tom. As I thought, they sent it to my old address. So he said they issued another to my new one. When I asked what it entails, he said it’s about some education expenses that were claimed. If it’s for sports, that’s fine. If it’s for computers I purchased (2 of them) or the insurance I had to pay for my kids’ iPads (2 of them), that’s another story. I got my computers at a pawn shop, and never knew that I could claim them. And the iPads my kids brought the teachers cash…so I never got receipt. Hell, I dont even care if they take that portion off! I dunno. He gave me number for tax advocate to speak of hardship, but said he couldnt just email me the letter.

I was accepted on the 28th and still sitting in processing. I am not worried just waiting and getting mad that its taken so long and other get there in a week. Something is wrong with there processing it should be a time frame that is realistic. We all need the extra money.

Do NOT trust what the MN depart if revenue people tell you in the phone if you call! Both times I was told nothing was wrong and just needed to wait. Contacted an advocate yesterday and now this morning found out I need to verify that my own baby born in October is my dependent! Way to go Minnesota for shoving it in my face that my child conceived by rape is actually my baby!!!! Just mailed them all the documents they freaking need…

Yeah, how strange is it that both times I had called to see if anything was wrong and why it was still processing I was told just need to wait for it to finish processing and that there was not any issues with my tax return! It still doesn’t show anything being wrong or sent when j check the status!!!

I contacted a MN taxpayer rights advocate yesterday because I knew something wasn’t right and got the letter sent to my email this morning. The MN where’s my refund doesn’t show anything about anything being wrong or sent to me!

It is frustrating. Every year Minnesota takes longer and longer…I can understand a couple weeks….AT MOST! The last 2 years we never received a letter and there were no problems and still it wasn’t until mid March in 2018 and the middle of April in 2017 that we were returned the money we so generously let the state hold for us…sorry…just had to vent. I understand the level of identity fraud that goes on, but why is it everyone else that has to pay for the action of others.

@Mary. Im almost certain thats what they will ask for. If it does not have a huge impact on the return, like a matter of 20 or 30 bucks, you can just call them with the letter number and just authorize them to adjust it on the phone and it will be done in a day or 2. Or if you can just explain the cash and they might just accept it.

We had a similar message on our account which turned out to be an ID Verification, we responded to the letter promptly and it didn’t seem to delay us at all. Same thing happened to people my husband works with, it was an easy process once the letter got to us. -

@wade Thank you, I hope so. Only thing I’m worried about really is I claimed around 2k in self employment income because I sell crafts off my fb page, and also clean houses. I debated on even reporting it because I only deal with cash as payment, so there isnt much record. I should have just kept it off. If they have to adjust it or whatever, I’m cool with that, but I didnt want to do anything illegal, so I reported it. I guess we will see. Whatever happens happens.

@Mary. 2 years ago that happened to me. Because i have a dependant and was self employed ( I HAD AN EBAY STORE) all they needed was a bank statement showing the regular deposits and proof of my dependent being my dependent. Once I sent that in i emailed the tax advocat with a letter from my landlord (obviously exagerating the situation) but my landlord was cool and went along with it and within 36 hours i went to refund approved and then sent the next day.

Thank you. I’m trying not to. I’ve heard if it’s an ID verify it’s really simple. If its birth certificates and stuff…simple. w2’s…simple. so just playing the waiting game. If I verify or fax or whatever do we have any clue as to how much of a delay this may be? Buddy coming from Ohio to see mo on his birthday and I wanted to take him to do something special or see MOA. Not necessarily, they may just need you to send receipts, verification paperwork, etc. and it’s not a full audit. I’ve personally never had that but I’ve had people I know get that. One of them this year just had to send in a receipt showing they paid childcare and they got their refund about 3 days after.

Upon my calculation, last year it took over 3 months for my state return that had no errors or issues the whole $36 of it… this years is just over 20 times the amount so I should have it in approximately 60 months (5 years) WHOOHOO! I didn’t realize that number told you for state as well, when I talked to MNDOR they said the only way to know for an offset was to call and speak to a live person, which we didn’t do.

I filed both state and federal 1/26 both were accepted 1/28 and MN moved to processing the same day it was accepted. I’ve called the offset number twice most recently today and it tells me no offsets found for my social security number!

wade123, that is the SAME thing that happened to me! I am a single mom and have been filing the exact same way for 20 years (13 in Minnesota). Yet for some reason they decided to audit me in 2015. It’s been downhill ever since. Before that, they were always johnny on the spot. This is the firs time since that it’s gone to bar 3 within a week. So hopefully it goes through soon.

@Jamie There really is no rhyme or reason. I imagine there are Agents there who get their stack of return and just glance and approve and then there are the ones who go over it with a fine tooth comb taking their job too seriously. I go my refund in 6 days this year which is how it used to be for me. It was only in the past 4 years or so it got weird on me. In 2015 and 2016 I was audited. All tuned out ok and was giving my full refund. in 2015 I got it 2rd week of April, 2016 I got it 2nd week of March. Last year was just a little slow and I got it Feb 28. So it seems it is just hit or miss with an agent that passes it at a glance vs. Inspector Gadget

@Jamie. I used Tax Act. When i tried to file on the 11th with my federal and Tax Act had a pop up saying i would not be able to file MN State until Jan 18 when MN updates it module. And sure enough on the 18th MN let me file it. Acepted the same day. I have never used TT before so I dont know about it but for Tax Act they would not allow me file it until MN updated their module. But I do others are getting refunds sent today so I sure hope it happens ASAP for all of you

@Jamie I wonder if your tax forms are the issue. I was not allowed to file until the 18th of Jan. MNDOR did not update their tax forms and module until Jan 18. My tax software left my refund amount blank for MN because MNDOR would not allow mw to file until they updated their tax forms on Jan 18. So they may be taking a closer look if your tax forms were the old ones from last year

Deposited on Feb 28thSorry but this pisses me off so much. This is our money and they have a responsibility to refund in a timely manner. There is no reason state should take longer then Federal return. The only reason they do this is to keep tax payers money longer. Also when I called last year they could not give any good reason why it was taking so long. So dont waste your time calling.
Processing-it will be in this stage the longest.

I’m its done updating for the weekend now, hopefully we all see movement Monday morning!! No nothing with the federal credits matter when it comes to state, we can get that whenever they feel like moving faster

I was pretty shocked last night to see the status had moved to 3 bar. I filed on the 17th. But the docs weren’t ready until the 28th, at which point my return was accepted. So it only took 4 days to go to 3rd bar. That’s the fastest in 5 years. The last 2 years it took them over a month.

Well I have not actually gotten the refund yet. It is still pending. According to my bank MNDOR sent it 2/1/19with instructions to post it on Monday. That does not make sense to me. It might be my bank just saying that. But if MNDOR did do that then maybe others have had the same issue.

My return is in processing too. Last year I did not get my refund until after my federal was approved. I got federal on the 22nd and state on the 28th. You can check offsets with the treasury department. It will tell you if you owe anyone money.

@Jamie Yes it updated to sent refund about 7am this morning but it has not actually posted yet. I use Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo said its pending. Should be there after midnight. I do have EIC so my Fed is held up until after Feb 15

If you read down a couple wade had the working family credit, which you can only get if you qualify for the EIC federal credit, and his is pending or posted to his bank I believe. But federal credits have nothing to do for when we get our state

Ha funny I’m wells Fargo as well, but I usually have it the day after it says refund sent, they are slow though, I wish MN had am offset number so we could get a heads up if we owe, I have googled it so many times and all I can find is the IRS one

Weird. I’ve never owed anything so I wish they’d just move along! Lol that and my DD I’d Wells Fargo. If mine doesnt update by tomorrow I’m not counting on having it next week. Bank slower than molasses!

We used turbo tax and got the working family credit as well. But we also don’t know if he owes anything to state, the took it all 3 years ago, a part 2 years and nothing last year, so hoping his debt is paid off cuz state doesn’t miss anything lol

@Jamie That could be it. I did get it in 4 days but they also adjusted it. They took it from $1091 to $854. They said they sent a letter explaining the adjustment. They did the same thing last year. They said my tax preparer, Tax Act did not calculate the family working credit correctly last year. Since they just sent the letter today the refund was posted but I won’t see that letter until Monday but I am guessing it will be the same reason.

@Jamie I believe they update all through the day. But on Monday about 7 am I went from bar 1 to bar 2. Wed Evening I went to bar 3. and around 7am this morning I went to refund Sent. So its moving fast. I bet you have movement today into tomorrow.

I was accepted on the 16th and two days later had the 9001 code but last weekend switched to Path. Now waiting.

@confused in mn Well Im not too concerned about the 9001 RN. It seems most people who filed within the first 2 weeks of Jan have it and even if it does not update and I do have to call in to ID verify, no big deal. It is a toll free number and I have my ID

I filed federal and state on the 10th, fed was accepted the 14th, but I moved from 9001 to PATH this last Saturday @confused home schooling is awesome, I like my kids out of the house once in a while lol

That seems Rediculous! I just waited until my husband got home and he got it running again. We are in the St Cloud area too. I’m just hoping to eventually move somewhere warm!
My coffee did the same thing and it was in my thermal cup! I brought it out with me to take my dog out and it was lukewarm by the time I got back in and it was only about 2-3 min!

@confused in mn My State is usually slow because I have the Working Family Credit of about 1,100 plus my return so they usually take a while to validate that I am guessing. Last year I went to processing about 2 weeks after I was accepted. The processing was 9 days and then within 3 of bar 3 preparing refund I got it. So 12 days total last year. not bad. Hope its faster this year

Last year I was on Bar 2, (processing) for 9 days. Then just 3 days from bar 3 to DD. So a total of 12 days. But it also took about 2 weeks just to get to bar 2. This year I went to bar 2 on opening day, Monday am, so maybe it will be quicker this year.

In my past experience it updates through out the day. Last year it updates after 3 pm so I check 12,3, and to be sure

Not sure of the times. Maybe that was back when i had mine mailed I was told they mamaimamail them those days..lol i dunno anymore. I know it has nothing to do with PATH. I’m not worried about that at all, just stating there are so many different tax laws.

MN does theirs all days of the week, the last 2 years I have gotten mine on the 6th, a Tuesday last year and Monday the year before I think. But the federal path act has nothing to do with state, so we are good there

Hoping for a quick return. I have both credits, but ideally it would be nice to get state back before federal for once! I’m hoping even as early as tomorrow morning it has moved out of processing to preparing refund. Only time will tell. Good luck!

FINALLY my refund is being processed!!! After waiting 6 weeks, then getting a letter stating that I needed to prove the amount that was made last year as well as sending in receipts and proof of purchases for the child credits and business credits I was claiming….it’s FINALLY getting to the refund stage! So basically it was a partial audit. I will say that the person who was processing my return was very helpful and gave me a lot of info. So when returns are e-filed they’re screened for certain words and #s. Those returns sit in a queue until MN Dept of Rev looks at it. If everything looks legit they send it through. If they question anything you get a letter. They sort through the queue a few different times. I will say they processed my mailed in info pretty quick. It took about a week but they tell you to allow at least 3. So glad to be past the processing /checking for accuracy stage!!!

The tax advocate just called and is now requesting documentation about our whole life. We have to send birth certificates for all 4 children, a copy of my husbands 1099 and our marriage certificate. I am FUMING pissed right now. Looks like we’ll be receiving an eviction notice and will be living out of our vehicle before we ever see our state taxes. How do I tell our foster son that we can’t keep him?

We are also just over the 7 weeks mark. As mentioned in a previous post, we contacted a tax advocate at the MN Dept of Revenue two days ago. She asked us to email her proof of financial hardship and she would expedite the filing. Proof could be as simple as a utility disconnect notice. My husband called her back today to find out her email address, but it was not needed. The advocate already processed the return and said the website will update with refund date within 3 days.

Sent my 1040 and M-1 electronically February 15th and both were accepted immediately. IRS paid my refund February 28th. As for Minnesota, I am still in processing. Its been 35 days. I emailed to ask if its because I moved to a new residence. Someone responded saying that they didn’t see anything wrong with my return and they didn’t send a verification letter (I was concerned that they sent my letter to my old address). The person responding to me didn’t give me an estimate on when I would get my refund and merely stated that processing times were variable. Not a hint of how long it would take. It appears that fraudulent filings are up and that is one reason for the delay but in addition my research found an article from early 2017 that said the Minnesota Department of Revenue funding was cut by the Republican led legislature and the head of the Department said it would affect the processing of 2016 and 2017 refunds. It appears that the lack of funding and extra steps to guard against fraud are the problem. Its frustrating especially since the Minnesota Department of Revenue is not communicating the reasons for the delays and not giving the public a reasonable expectation of how long it will take to process our returns. The people on this site filed early which is not typical. Generally early filers get their refunds earlier since there aren’t as many to process. I have to think that the people who will file around April 17th will have an even longer wait time since the majority of the public generally waits until the last minute to file.

My husband got in touch with a tax advocate today from the MN Dept. of Revenue. The advocate said if we provide documentation of financial hardship, they will “expedite” the processing, and issue our refund withing 2 days. I mean really – THEY are in possession of OUR money that as taxpayers we paid in advance to them out of our paychecks. We overpaid them too much of OUR money, and should not have to wait for it to be refunded until after an eviction notice comes! There is no justification for this. In NO WAY is it okay for Minnesota to hold OUR money hostage! I am now at the point of LIVID!

Filed on1/29 and accepted the same day. Been in processing ever since. Then on March 8th it updated to a letter being sent…40 days later!!! Got the letter on the 12th saying I needed to send in a copy of my w2. Mailed that to them the same day. ANDDDDD here I wait some more as it still says that a letter has been sent. Oh and I received my Federal refund on 2/16.

We filed our MN return (joint) on 2/6/2018. Called MN Dept. of Revenue on 2/26 after website said a letter was sent to us with further instructions on 2/23. We received the letter on 2/27. It directed us to enter a code on their website to verify that it was really us that filed our taxes. Entered code the same day (2/27).
It is now 3/18 and the same message is still shown – “We sent you a letter on 23-Feb-2018 requesting information we need to finish processing your return. If you responded to this letter
– we will contact you if we have further questions.”We have contacted them twice in the past two weeks to inquire about what is taking so long. Both times we were told there was nothing more that we needed to do, they just need more time to process it.
We are now on our 7th week of waiting. This is RIDICULOUS! Aside from work, we are also foster parents on a tight budget, and desperately need this money. The least they can do is tell us WHY! #BeyondFrustrated

I filed weeks ago and my return has been sitting in processing. This return is taking way longer than it ever has in the past. I have been filing MN tax returns for over 25 years and never has my return taken this long. Because my husband works in Wisconsin we have to file WI taxes as well. Both Federal and WI monies have been in our bank account for weeks already. Where is my money that MN owes? What are the things that are checked during processing – making it take so long. If I owed the state the money for some reason I am sure they would not be patient or they would but they would charge interest and penalties – do we as taxpayers get that option?

So here’s some BS for ya. March 6th I get an email in the afternoon from the MN dept if Rev saying that there’s nothing wrong with my return. Saturday I get a letter in the mail from them that was generated on 3/6 stating that I have to send in a crap ton of info to prove how much I made last year along with receipts and everything. So clearly who ever sent the email lied to me which is very irritating. So I have until the 21st to get this to them. Then I get the pleasure waiting ANOTHER 3 weeks for them to process THAT! I’m fairly certain they’re asking for this because the week prior I was a thorn in their sides wondering what was going on with my refund. I’ve never had to do this in years past. Really irritated.

I filed 1/31 and was accepted the same day. I got a letter about 2 weeks later saying I had to Id verify by going on the where’s my refund site and putting in the special code that was mailed to me in the letter from them. I did that right away the same day I got it and have been stuck in processing ever since!!! It really is so unfair. I haven’t called anymore because they always say due to the fraud going on with identity theft, we have the right to take more time to process returns. The problem is, they have nothing saying how long, or there isn’t any laws yet that say how long they can hide behind that excuse!! At this point they can take forever if they feel like it!!!!!!! How unfair!!!

Update, guys! Filed 1/19, accepted 1/22. Updated to preparing refund after sitting in processing this whole time for w2 verifications. (Had to fax over copies of all w2s last week.) Hopefully it won’t be long now.

Lucky you @Jason. I filed 1/29, accepted 1/30, Sat in “checking for accuracy” for a week or so before they revamped the site, and have been in “processing” ever since. It’s totally unfair how they do things.

I filed electronically on 2/20/18 and it was “accepted ” that evening. It sat in the “processing” phase until 3/6/18 and it switched to “preparing your refund” and then this morning 3/07/18 I got the “we sent your refund.” Assuming it will be in my account tomorrow? I know it’s not what some of you are experiencing, just putting my approximate timeline here so people with similar dates can see what I experienced. 16-17 days?

Still flipping processing. Unreal. Got ticked and emailed the MN Dept of Rev telling them that 5 weeks to process a 1040 is unacceptable as well as people who filed after I did already getting their refunds. Of course I get the same BS answer. I’ll be lucky if I see my refund by summer at this rate. Thanks Minnesota….for nothing. Might have to look into what my rights are….something has to be done to fix this. Never have I ever had to wait this long.

I’m beginning to wonder if we’re secretly being audited or something. I just can’t understand how a 1040EZ can take 5 weeks to process. Not 100% sure, but I think it’s just stating that it can take the longest in that step of processing the return.. which everyone knows the processing and checking for accuracy is always the longest step… it’s almost like they think we are stupid.. sorry just my opinion. But they are taking longer than they normally do

In my experience, its usually the day of our the day after. I will find out soon. Mine wad just updated to refund sent today. I’ll let you know as soon as the deposit hits. I know my mom’s was sent valentines day and she got it in her regular bank the next morning. Hope that helped.

I can confirm also it updates through the day, this morning it still said preparing refund, checked at 11 30 today and is at refund sent, so i should see in my account tmrw or friday :)

In my experience it updates throughout the day. I had checked this morning and nothing but than just checked it after 11 and it changed. Good luck to everyone!! Hopefully they don’t make you wait forever!

Nice! From everyone’s experience, when has the website updated? Is it only overnight like the site says or does it actually update throughout the day as well? I’m only checking in the morning assuming it’s only overnight, but had read a few places that It updated during the day as well? Not a big deal, jut something for me to think about while I wait in the Processing state for a month…. ;)

Couldn’t say forsure, but It’s most likely some sort of verification letter…recently they have sent more of these out to verify identity…such as a marriage or kids if you are claiming something for a credit or whatever questions they might have..
To me it’s a good sign that they are working on yours..I’ve been stuck on processing for over a month now.. when did you file your return?

No surprise….still stuck on “processing”. Emailed the MN Rep of Rev. I don’t expect to hear anything back but it felt good to ask questions and give them a piece of my mind. They should have some system in place to notify us of any delays instead of just letting it sit there. It’s beyond frustrating.

no I get it, stories was probably the wrong terminology, but on other sites, there are some know it alls, some have said the system only updates over night, where some get updates during the day. But like you said nobody outside of the revenue will understand how they operate lol just not happy with how the state is operating, they are holding up my return which is simple and easy and would not require that much checking…but who knows, i think they all took vacation days during tax time haha

@AMA Well I dont know about getting different stories. There are some story tellers here, and there are a few know it alls, but I think most here just share their experience. For many they have only seen an overnight update in all their 30 plus years of filing. For others it only happens on a certain day. In the end everyones experience is different. It is those different experiences that just show us that the system is really %&#$ up. And no one really know what MNDOR thinks or how they operate.

I updated yesterday to processed and the 3rd bar preparing my refund. Should see a DD tonight or monday. I have had deposits go in Friday night and show up in my bank Sat morning before.

Mine was accepted the 29th moved to preparing, I got a letter to prove my marriage (been 10 years), which I sent on the 12th of Feb. Moved to preparing yesterday morning, woke up today with a deposit date of today.

I filled on the 26th, it was accepted on the 29th and I got my federal refund back on the 6th of February. I still haven’t gotten my Mn tax return. My brother filed on the 8th of February and He just told he got a check in the mail today from his MN refund. How is that fair? Maybe mine will come soon! I’m still stuck on processing! :(

No surprise….still “processing”. I’m beginning to think they have like…5 people if that working for the Dept of Revenue. They say each return is filed in the order received. Bs. People who filed weeks after I did, with very complicated tax returns already have their state! Mine is a simple 1040 and it’s still “processing”? Filed 1/29, accepted 1/30 and still nothing….closing in on almost a month since being accepted.

I did receive that return verification letter but that’s ad far as I have gotten. Still ridiculous. I was so mad when my mom got her state and she filed 2 1/2 weeks after me. I filed Jan 22nd.. ahhh never have had this much of an issue until the last 2 years and this year now. Nothing has changed in my filing either! In right there with you guys!

My state return is still sitting on processing…. Today is 2/19/18, I am so tired of checking everyday for no update today I will be calling them and asking them what the status is. This is so shameful and makes me sick. There is no reason that any state should take this long to process a simple tax return. This is beyond ridiculous and if I don’t get an update today I am telling them I am calling the local news….If they are short handed or have a problem the should be letting people know this. It’s our money and it should be paid in a timely matter…
On a good note my federal return will be in my bank account on 2/22/18 before my simple state return.

I filed the 22nd… and my wmr updated yesterday with the status a letter was sent on the 13th. So the day I got the letter is the day it showed one was sent. I would call tue if you haven’t gotten a letter or your wmr has not updated to anything

@ himesMN04 Even after the ID Verify you may still be sitting on processing I did my I’D Verify over two weeks ago and guess what? I’m still sitting at processing it hasn’t budged yet. When I talked to one of the representatives about a week ago I was told that the they sent a letter message will remain on the WMR until next tax season. It will update but the message will not go no where and they don’t know how long after you verify your identity that it will move to the next step.

First time I’ve ever had to verify with mn… said to answer questions and i didn’t have to answer any. . Just put the code and last name. . Submit and bam… now hopefully done and will be processed sooner than later!

And yeah the school supply thing is dumb, especially when there are people claiming way worse…i know i always file beginning of Feb and after i had called them im pretty sure they had to reduce amount and mail a check, not aure the whole time frame but i know i didnt get check until March…either way its frustrating…mine still says processing afyer sitting on CFA first forever, so not sure if im going to get a letter or its just taking that ling to process…but since i filed 1/24 iys frustrating!

If it is for expenses like school supplies, books, peper, pencils etc or ifnyou stated there were computer expenses then they would have you send reciepts and if you dont have them then they just remove that credit from the return, which honestly depending what you claimed is probably $100 or less…still sucks when it happens though!

It says it qas sent on thr 2-16 infiled 2/1 im guessing you are right it is child education expenses but i don’t think i have those receipts anymore. I know on thr site it says if you don’t they give u a depreciated value or something. Thats fine i can live with that.

When did you file and when did you recieve the letter? I feel if someting was wrong or needed i would have already gotten a letter since i filed 1/24…but the letter could be minor, maybe just need to verify info..i got audited one year over child education expenses so just needed to provide receipts for purchases, which wasnt bad accept waiting on refund for what seemed forever! Just weird how not much has change accept only one w2 this year instead of 2, last year got state on feb 6th…. just weird seeing no changes

Last night when I checked it, it said “processing” with the “this is the longest step” message, and when I check early this morning it had moved from “processing” to “processed” -
I have gotten it on different days. Last year it was sent Friday and hit my acct Sat morning. 2 years ago I got it on a Thursday. So I think it can be sent any day.

I was also confused. I went to the new processing look, and it has all the tell tale signs of a new kind of CFA… But I just chatted with 2 of my friends who got their state refund. They said that last week they went to processing and it was the same new look we see now, and 1 or 2 days later their refund was sent. It seems that once they are done checking for accuracy you move to the new processing stage where they will either approve your refund and send it or they will ask you for more information. Putting this into perspective, I remember last year I was in CFA until April. Then when it updated it went to processing with a letter sent message. So from what I gather in speaking with friends who have already gone through this new look, we have finished with CFA and are now processing. I know it looks to be another way of tricking us that we are actually still CFA but now is when we will either get our refund or a message saying a letter has been sent. If we get no message saying a letter has been sent then I am certain now that this new look is really processing and since I don’t have the message a letter has been sent I should get my return any day, I say give it a couple days to see whats what.

Last year I got my state and federal back on 2/22. I can’t remember the timeline of processing for last year. This year I submitted my taxes on 1/18. Accepted on 1/18. Checking for accuracy on 1/30 and just changed to Processing on 2/14. I don’t see why MN takes so long to issue the refund. It’s OUR money not theirs!

I filed my parents a week or so after mine and they got their state and federal back in less than 7 days! i have the PATH credits so my federal is delayed anyway…and have heard from other sites of people getting their state back too…for me it is either they are auditing me (really no reason why) or it is delayed too just because of the credits so they are taking their time to make sure it is all good…i think jinxed myself filing only a week earlier this year!

I wish they would communicate something at least…lack of communication is frustrating. Does anyone know people who have already gotten their state back? I haven’t been able to find anyone who I have talked to in person yet who has…it seems like a larger issue of delays maybe…

Still CFA. This is ridiculous. I sent them a message on FB and got the same BS answer. There’s no way they’re worked on in the order they’re received because some people who filed after I did already have their returns. If there’s nothing wrong with the return then I guess I don’t understand what the hold up is. My last response to the MN dept of rev was: So at this point I should expect my state refund some time in April or May? Go figure…no response.

Thank you for your email. Each return we receive has to be processed. In processing, returns are worked in the order received and the time varies based on the return.
Our “Where’s My Refund?” system will allow you to track the stages of your return and will give you the date your return has finished processing and the date your refund is issued.
So how does that make any sense when people our claiming they filled after my date and there received there refunds…

Still no update here either. It’s beyond annoying. Does it really take 3 weeks to “check for accuracy”? It’s bad enough that my federal refund is delayed because of the new law put in place…but now MN is taking their sweet time. I get that they want to make sure that everything is legit but when you file on TurboTax you have to put down your driver’s license info and what not. Super frustrated.

I filed 2/5 accepted 2/6 and I am on CFA. It has not been long enough for me to panic, but last year they were TERRIBLY SLOW. Last year I filed 1/24/17 and did not receive our state until the middle of April. There were no problems with our return it just took them that long to process it. I am really hoping it does not take that long this year. There really is no excuse for taking that long. Especially when we include identity information like driver’s License number and such, so they CAN verify our identities. Also, we had filed filed an amendment in May which we did not get until October. I understand how everyone feels…hopefully this year they are on top of it :)

I forget when I updated to CFA, but this is getting ridiculous.I called last week and they told me WMR updates after they open in the morning so I try not to check until around 9, but it never changes anyways. So frustrating.

This is also my first year and lets say this state is the slowest I have ever seen!! Checked again today 2/12/18 still at checking for accuracy. I am driving myself crazy checking so at this point I am done checking I will let everyone know the date that it gets paid.

I have EIC and my federal will not be processed until the 15th my conclusion is that there waiting on my federal return before they update my state refund. I am not sure what that return has to do with state but think that is why its taking so long.

I called yesterday and they told me they received my return on 1/19 and even knew the amount of the return, but that it just wasn’t done yet. I believe I changed to checking for accuracy on 1/31 and I am still waiting.But if the 8 days signifies anything, maybe tomorrow?

When I gave them my social they did not see my return, then gave my name and did not see it then either. She put me on hold and then told me that they have not entered the information in there system yet. I said well how can I check it online and it tells me that its accepted and then that its being checked for accuracy. She said that they have it and she can see it but its not usually that it takes more then 8 days to go to the next step. So basically they have done nothing with the return since Feb 1st. So guess that we will be waiting a month before they do anything.

You should be fine however I can’t say with 100% certainty but it would be a rare occurance. And it deposits depend on your bank. Mine has always deposited the next day so it should be in tomorrow after being sent today. Good luck!

They are not moving quickly for me. I was audited 2 out of the last 3 year on a simple 1040EZ. No deductions. Just a W2. Last year I sit in CFA for 3 months then when I go to a processing it is with a letter has been sent out message. Last year they had my W2 from me and my employer and they actually audited me and asked for my bank statement to show direct deposits of payroll. Really??? Then my return was deemed legit and given to me in MAY. In 2016 again a 1040 EZ with W2. No deductions. But because I donated 100$ to Mary’s Place and listed it they took 3 months to send me to processing and send a letter asking for the receipt of the donation. then They deemed my return legitimate and gave it to me in August. Now here I am again on CFA while everyone else is moving to processing. So I have that sinking feeling again. How many times can they audit you? and on back to back years? And 3 out of 4 years? for a simple 1040EZ with W2? Well I am glad it is moving quickly for some, but I am feeling certain they will audit me again. Still on CFA? Really? But I seem destined for annual audits every year.

I file ez1040 every year. yet for some reason I have been audited 2 out of the last 3 years. After the audit my refund has been determined valid and it is then issued. My fiance got a letter sent to him on March 9th. He filed on January 27th. We got the letter and just had to go to their site and put in a code and answer 1 question, which was whether or not he filed his return. He did that on March 13th and today his return is now processing. Mine also changed to processing today. Wonder how long it will sit there for.

Don’t feel so bad, I was new to the state… I moved to Minnesota December of 2015. I am a full time single father, with custody of a, then, 2 year old. I moved in to my mothers, got back on my feet after a nasty custody battle, and by August of 2016 I moved out of Minnesota (I got out before the cold came back! LOL) so now I am living here in Pennsylvania, Filed on 1/26. Everyone I know in Minnesota has gotten their returns, yet here it is 3/21/17 and I am still waiting for my refund. I check my refund status every night around 2 AM EST, I think the disappointment at this point is what keeps me coming back, just like trying to rekindle an old flame with an ex. I’ve already discredited the notion of ever seeing this money any time soon, maybe after the summer I will get it… So one day I will wake up and find a *cough* free $1700 in my bank account.

I filed with Jackson Hewitt on Jan 15, 2017. I got my state back on Feb 23, 2017 (Due to EITC), but MN says “Checking for accuracy”, and here it is Mar 15, 2017.

I just talked to a lady who said she hasn’t heard of anything regarding a 2 month delay. Just that they are being extra watchful of fraud. It was the same last year. Well, Feb 28. Filed Jan 27. accepted Jan 27 for Minn. State. Still checking for accuracy. last year it was Oct. before I got my state. No audit, no additional review no holds, no letters sent and no add. info requested. Errr!! I filed 2/3 and was accepted same day. Still on “checking” status. It’s ridiculous because I have a direct deposit date for Fev 22nd for my federal AND THEY HAD A DARN HOLD UBTIL THE 15th.
I have had to friends file. On on 2/1 and she got her refund the following Monday (with no kids,basic return) and one friend filed 2/1 and got her refund the following Friday (3 kids, two jobs, self employment). I filed two days after them, 2 kids, 2 jobs and nothing still (20 days later). Last year it took two months and I wasn’t audited or anything. Literally nothing was wrong. They just decided to take two months.
I need this money. I’m on time paying you every paycheck- it’s time to cough up and pay me.

So last year was a nightmare. After making numerous calls and sending several FB messages, and getting various different stories and excuses from Mn state, it takes getting in touch with the Tax Payor Advocate to find out 5 months after filing that I had been audited. Me, a single mom of a (then) 17 and 20 year old and barely living paycheck to paycheck. They literally tossed out EVERY SINGLE deduction Turbo Tax qualified me for and I got back less than a third of what I should have. I submitted this morning and was accepted on both state and federal just a couple hours later. It’s been a rough year financially. I’m crossing my fingers for a smooth ride this time.

I, too, am still waiting for my tax refund. I am out-of-state resident living and working in MN while in graduate school. It has been almost six months since my return was accepted, and ever since it has been categorized as “checking for accuracy” on the website. I have never heard of a state tax refund taking this long to process. The federal came in no time, and when I worked in my home state and had to file there this never happened. There seems to be no accountability or transparency on this issue. Even local news agencies that have investigated this matter seem to have gotten nowhere. What nonsense: if this is what the Mn Dept of Rev considers “effective” screening for the supposed uptick of tax fraud, imagine how effective they really are in actually catching the people committing said fraud. Again, what a joke.

I filed 3/25 electronically and it was accepted 2 weeks later. We are now in September and it’s still checking for accuracy. Every time I call they tell me that there’s no limitations on how long they have to process it and to keep checking online for updates. They said everything looked fine so far and the delay is due to fraud checks. My renters refund says the same crap, I hate my state for this. Is there anyone else still waiting on refunds

You can call Tax Offset (800) 304-3107. This should give you the info. But, legally, a company cannot offset without notifying you, usually by mail.

Filed Jan 19 and it still says checking for accuracy. I’ve emailed them a few time’s and get the same scripted response. I’ve called once and all I got is that it has been received

So I messaged them on FB and here was their response:
Good morning Tina. I don’t think what we’ve said have been different excuses but more of an attempt to offer a bit more detail as to why we need to take the time necessary to review every return and make sure the right refund is going to the right person. This is where the fraud aspect comes in and with scams on the rise, we need to make sure we are diligent in our reviews and protecting taxpayer money by keeping it out of the hands of criminals.
We begin processing returns in the order they are received, but as they go through our review process, some may take longer than others to complete. That’s why someone who filed after you may have gotten their refund already. Thanks for your questions. -
Yep. I called for the second time on Friday. Been on “checking for accuracy” since Feb.2. Firat call they said it was due to an influx of filers all at the end of Jan. Now they say fraud checks. They can’t seem to get their stories straight.

Just thought I would put my experience on here. I filed on Jan. 26th got my federal on Feb. 9th. Still have not received my MN state. It is on second bar checking for accuracy ever since I filed. I have called twice and both times the just tell me it’s taking longer this year because of all the fraud issues. This is not true because every one I know got theirs back in two weeks or less. It has been over two months for me. Never taken this long. Ever. So frusterating!

Filed almost 2 months ago, still checking accuracy. Trouble for us is my husband works in MN, we live in ND, and for 3/4 of the year my husband was paying taxes to MN instead of ND so we are supposed to get everything back he paid in. Wonder what accuracy they are looking for when we aren’t even supposed to pay MN taxes?

OK i went to processing on 3/4/16 today it went to send, and it states that i should get it within 7 days, now I’m just waiting now!!!

Dominique, I heard it would still be another couple of weeks between processing and sent. That’s not necessarily fact. Just what I’ve heard. Please keep us all updated so we know there’s hope.

BULLLLSHIT!!! ive called multiple times a week. I got accepted 1/27 still checking for accuracy. Its funny though… they put on their facebook page a bunch of posts about “scams” and “fraud” ONLY to use as evidence for people asking why its taking so long. I HAVE A SIMPLE RETURN! GIVE ME MY MONEY

OK I filed my MN on 1/25 five days after my state still at checking for accuracy its been little over a month. I don’t know what is going on with MN I googled to see if there were any obvious delays and all I could find is about last year I through my hands up idk*_*

Filed 2-1-16 accepted 2-2-16 and still checking for accuracy, I called last week and talked to a woman that said she has the same information as the website. I asked were there any issues did they need more information, she said they would mail a letter if there is an issue. Zero help! This is ridiculous

I filed on January 22nd, my MN status is still “checking for accuracy”. My boyfriend filed his MN two weeks ago and has already received his! This is ridiculous. Can anyone provide me with the phone number to talk to an actual person? Thanks!

Update : Still at 2 bars checking for accuracy. Well I guess I should have done it the OLD Fashioned way via the Sail Mail cause I would have it by NOW. This state’s government its a JOKE!

heard on the news that people might have to wait 90 days to get their refunds. they are blaming it on a rush of people filing at the start of the season. staff better then! its not like you dont have thousands of our dollars to pay people! MN over taxed us and has a bunch of money in their pockets that they will spend on stupid stuff.

Ughhhh what’s the deal when I called Monday the lady told me my funds were released Friday and a check should be mailed no later than Monday. Its Wednesday still nothing in the mail

2/5 transferred to non liable spouse department(my debt only my husband worked)
2/17 money returned from loans
2/19 revenue released money
At some point after 2/19 a check was mailed they couldn’t tell me when -

What I find ridiculous is that my 20 year old daughter still has not received hers. They said a small glitch affecting few? Her return is only 77.00 and they can’t figure it out?

Ha they lied to you I asked for supervisor and gave me all kinds of info about the glitch. But did say everything is ok with my return just have to wait for manual processing. About 2weeks to start and 2weeks to process so a total of 4weeks and I called almost 2weeks ago if you can follow lol

called this morning. was told there was no glitch and i have to wait. he said that they process them in order that they receive them. ummm well why the hell are other people getting theirs and they filed weeks after me! its been a god damn month now! if there is something wrong please just tell me so i can have some peace of mind! so frustrated right now!

I called mn revenue last week the said they had a glitch that affected a very very small percent of people and those people have to wait to be manually processed..blah blah something about they could not be deposited but everything else was good to go just have to wait 2weeks before they start to manually process.
They also said it affected so few of people they didn’t bother to share any info about it online they didn’t want to upset everyone else who is fine.

Yea this is ridiculous. Filed 28th accepted 28th. Still two bars. Messaged a prick on facebook and he said take your time we are processing. I usually always get my state back first. Unacceptable. if anyone with any other information please post

Mine has been at TWO bars since Jan.25, 2016 my GF same thing her’s was filed on Jan. 23,2016. Never had my state of Minnesota Refund take this long. In years past its almost always been deposited in my account before my Federal, Worse yet the state of minnesota is already sitting on a 2 billion dollar surplus. Maybe they’re taking our money and investing it to make some more for their coffers. Give the working people there money for god’s sake. No accountability for this either at the state level….pass the buck.

Been stuck at that stupid accuracy bar since and people who have filed after me are already getting their money. I called last Friday and was told to just wait and if they needed anything they would mail me a letter. It has never taken this long and other then moving nothing has changed for me in the past 3 years! -
I’ve been stuck on 2 bars since I filed and was accepted on January 22nd.. No clue why MN is so slow. I called last week and he told me nothing was wrong, just processing.

Anyone still stuck at 2 bars? I called and the representive just told me if something was wrong I would receive a letter in the mail. For me just to wait it out. Never waited this long for state return.

Rose, the MN Department of Revenue website said that they sent me my income tax refund 2/2/2016 via direct deposit. I check my bank account almost daily year-round. The deposit was visible to me this morning; I didn’t see anything yesterday afternoon.
Overall timeline for my MN Income Tax (2015):
-Filed 1/28/2016 (using TT)
-Accepted 1/29/2016
-Refund sent 2/2/2016 (DD)
-Refund (DD) actually visible to me in my bank account 2/3/2016 -
