@RM YES, I’m sure you are correct. Someone else said that they update on Saturdays and I’m sure I’ve never seen that happen. Lol but for sure no banks will be issuing anything until Tuesday.

On Facebook the comptroller page has been responding to people saying they are on track for processing returns and refunds in the order received not sure if that means they started or if they have a plan to start but not releasing the start date to us. Two separate people said they called one said refunds will start two weeks from today and the other said the early filers will start seeing refunds on Friday I don’t know which is more accurate

The Maryland State Comptrollers Office will not start ANY Tax Returns until the morning of February 6,2024.
Due to the system upgrades that were scheduled to be completed by February 6 th.
So if the state does there job and there are no issues we should start seeing refunds go out before Friday -

Goodmorning Marylanders, has anyone here or seen anything about Maryland not processing returns until Feb 5th because of a update from 1/30 to 2/5. I looked in the Comptroller site and it said that they wouldn’t have access to process refunds during the update. But I’m wondering does that mean they not doing any taxes during that time or are they just not processing the refund

So turbo tax says my MD was accepted on the 22nd state site doesn’t show anything. Same for my daughter and my brother in law. Does anyone show their state returns as received on the Maryland site yet. Or is it like ours and just notified by the tax preparer software that it was accepted. I’m on path so I’m impatiently waiting for my state since I still have weeks to wait for my federal.

It depends on what bank you have. I’ve used my bank of America and it came the next day at times and sometimes the day after and if u use my netspend prepaid it comes same night -

I just called the comptrollers office in Frederick County 3016001982.
They informed me that they didn’t start any returns until the 25th of January.
I filed on the 23 and was accepted the same day however they didn’t start mine until the 31st.
I was told I should have mine no later than the 6th.
As they are doing returns in small batches to make sure the system can handle it. I hope this helps.. -

I just assumed that both was accepted at the same time like always. It took them 6 freaking days just to accept my taxes……. Lord this is gonna be a long tax season I can feel it. Smh

I filed 1/16 accepted 1/17 as of today still says not processed. I called in 1/26 they said they have it but hadn’t processed yet. I did my brothers 1/26 accepted minutes later and he was approved today. Makes no sense.

So I just got in contact with someone from MD and the agent said Give it 10 days after 1/23/2023 to check your status and called Agents for updates. I asked them did they at least have my return and they said they have my return but it is not processed yet. She said wait until Feb 6th to call back

I finally got my refund. I ended up going to my local comptrollers office. The receptionist said she would put a note for the manager because it had been so long. She wasn’t actually able to do anything herself. I’m not sure if this is what did the trick, but I am relieved.

Yup. I originally filed on the 7th. I resubmitted and fixed it on the 14th. I keep calling every week. Seems like somehow it’s more difficult than ever to actual get a rep. And the last time I got one, they redirected me to another department, where I got sent to someone who told me I’d get a call back in a certain timeframe, and they never called me back.

i hust called again and she said my return is fine, its standard and its in the questionable refund unit. which could be because i use a prepaid card, use tax software and that is stuff that identity thieves use and if they needed more info i would had gotten another letter. im at 45 days so i just dont get it.

@derrick w called again today got a nice lady who told me yes, they did receive my email with w-2 &end of year pay stubs &that it had been forwarded to be submitted &reviewed but this process generally takes 8-12 weeks from the date they got it (24th for me )& that rarely does it happen sooner than. can keep calling to check but it’s a long waiting game thanks to Covid and short staffed ness. But it’s not an audit & shouldn’t impact my federal.

@rm I got a letter after the initial letter of “review” that stated that they needed to verify my income to send them my w2 again and my end of the year paystubs. I fax them immediately, waited a few days & called to verify they had been received, was told no. At least not at that point. So they gave me an email to send them to, which I got a auto no reply response from with the name QRDT. Googled this, it’s the “questionable return dept”.

Just as a heads up to people waiting to receive a letter in the mail and to wait 10 days, I would NOT rely on this. Accounting for only businesses days, excluding both weekends and holidays, it’s been over 10 days and I still haven’t received any notice. Had I not called and found out, I’d be in the dark still.

The review i was told could take up to 60 days. Last year I didn’t get my MD refund until April. Then I had to amend and i got that money within weeks.

@derrick W Did yours impact your federal taxes? I’m hoping it doesn’t happen with the irs too. I’m trying to remain positive but it’s so hard. I’m starting to think it’s because of my EIC amount being high for my income. But I didn’t change these tax credit amounts, the government did. Ya know? These workers are supposed to be “for the people” it’s a shame but I’m also not trying to make anyone mad.

Call, ask them for help with “codes” on your account, and then send documents to email they provide. Have to stroke their ego when speaking to them. That worked for me, same boat as you.

I’m sorry to hear that. I would keep trying until you get someone who can actually give you information. Follow up daily, if need be. Waiting 10+ days for a letter in the mail is unacceptable when they likely have the information. State workers are often underpaid and in many circumstances face no repercussions for their actions, so many are nasty. But many are good, so keep trying. -
Yes, but I have nothing like that at all. I owe nothing, I had a baby last year but that’s it, same employer 7 yrs. did if effect your federal return? I’m terrified.I just called and got through to a very unpleasant woman who was rather crappy . Told me that my letter explained everything they knew. All the letter states is that they are conducting a thorough review and basically wait 60 days. Doesn’t give any other detail or reason for doing so at all.

Oddly enough refund says approved and was released today although I know I owe the federal IRS 9k and 200$ in speeding tickets… appreciate getting the money none the less

As far as I know, they are working on the request and hopefully we’ll get our refund shortly. I still have not actually got the letter in the mail.
So TLDR; the “you will not be getting a refund” can easily have nothing to do with owing the state money. It’s more than likely a poorly worded cookie cutter statement which could be a dozen or more different things

Half our payments were made because we were not even married yet when we made then. As a result, the state was registering us as having had no payments made to them.
After 3 different phone reps and a confusing email chain, I had to have my wife and I write two separate requests with our signatures, and bank statements confirming all the estimated payments came from our accounts.

Are you getting the error “Your return was processed on x/x/2022. You will not be receiving a refund. You should receive a letter within 10 business days from the processing date explaining the circumstances.”?
The reason they were saying I wasn’t getting a refund had nothing to do with owing the state any back money or anything. It was because my wife and I had made estimated payments as individuals, but we filed jointly.

I made $10k less this yearCovid screwed the hospitality industry. got 6 dependents owe nothing buta bridge toll but this isn’t an offset Says I’m Not getting a refund. @LilMissLovly Thank you for the reply. I seriously hope this is not the case. I overpaid State massively this year – over $5,000 worth. Not only can I not imagine a scenario where I owe the state of Maryland anything in general, but I absolutely cannot imagine that I owe them more than $5,000. I will post an update when I receive my letter because after digging through this thread others have had this issue and nobody ever posted their follow up

That does not mean they did not accept your return. That means they have finished processing it but they are taking your refund and putting it towards something that you owe the state. Could be tolls, tickets, or anything involving you owing the state for any reason. The reason will be explained on the letter you should receive soon.

I’m having the same problem. Accepted the 24th and when I call it said something about entering the wrong amount and no one being available to take my call.
I call again, this time not listening to the prompts and pressing 0 to get to speak with a real person. She pulled my file and reviewed it with her manager and informed me they were “sending it up for processing”.
I know people who did their state taxes a few days ago and already have refunds.

Finally some update!!
Filed and accepted on 1/25 using TurboTax. Updated to processing on2/7 and finally today it changed to this “Your refund of $—— was approved on 2/9/2022. Your requested direct deposit was released to your account on the approved date. According to Federal Reserve Guidelines, the funds should be available within 48 hours”. Still one bar on WMR for federal return. -

When does Maryland start processing? I swear things are moving slow this year. I was accepted for state 1/24, and the website still says I have not been processed. I normally get back my state within a week. I don’t have any fancy return. No EIC or ACTC, no state donations or expense reimbursements.

Just got off the phone with a rep that said it’s a delay in processing because so many people filed at the same time. They don’t know when it will complete processing and that I should check back next week and if it’s not done then to just check once a week 🤔

You and I have chatted back and forth over the last few years. I efiled mine on the 23rd. federal was accepted and at one bar after a few hours, maryland was accepted late on the 24th. I REALLY hope it is as fast as last year but I had to wat until mid feb to efile. this year i read they opened 3 weeks early. so we will see.

It says the received and being processed message normally the day after they accept your return/or when they open. But this year they were behind. It’s just a acknowledgement that they received it. When it’s finish processing you will get a your refund was APPROVED and Released to your account on blank date message

Yes, I contacted them 4 times. I used the emails and phone numbers in this thread. I never received a letter and I was told on 3 occasions give it another 7-10 business days. Today make the 10th day day from the last person that called me back. As of today I am still waiting for my state refund that was received on 1/27. I received my federal on 2/26 but I will be sure to send out calls and emails tomorrow.

Joining in the convo today. We filed a little later than normal this year. First year being married + having a ton of expenses for our business. MD & Federal got accepted on 2/13. The MD website hasn’t updated, but this is pretty normal for them lol.
For reference, last year I filed and was accepted on 1/29. DD on 2/1.
I think this year will be slower because of the holiday on Monday.

I’ve been emailing for two days and have been told my return is still processing and not yet reviewed and to give them more time. Last year I received my refund within 5 days of filing. It’s been two weeks since I was accepted and I haven’t received a review letter or anything, just simply accepted and waiting. I’m on maternity leave right now and I’m missing payments waiting for this money. I am relying on it until I got back to work.
I’ve emailed them back and asked why it’s taking so long and if the comptroller is going to send a statement that refunds are delayed. You can’t give back in 5 days one year and then be told to contact if you have received your refund in 45 days the next year. I hope they expedite. -

Call 4102607701 and don’t push 1 or 2, it will take you to a rep. Explain that you spoke to someone and tell them when they said they were sending it to be expedited.
I went through same.thing and when I called she started to give me the basic ” it’s processsing” until I explained it was sent to be expedited. Then she looked.into the notes and gave me the info I was looking for. She said it as processed and in refund dept. That was yesterday. After that I called.3 more.times.to be sure I got the same.info each time. Mine was sent Tuesday and my refund was sent to my account today and this was after getting a.review letter 1/31

I went through them already. They helped some. But our bill went Wahoo when my mom was on hospice here. So what would had helped through March helped through december. Its a.hard.choice when they say oh she has a year maybe more to put them in a home just to wake up one morning and find they had passed. I couldn’t send her away when she took the best care of me. It’s getting lower now but for those few months it went way up.

I’ve been trying to find another job but the last I work for let’s me being the kids there, I do all her cooking cleaning, errands, Dr appts, etc… And alot of the work is outside but I feel bad for wanting to leave. I just can’t do this. I pay in at the end of year so my refunds arent what they would be if I was.getting a w2. Either way I rely on this to keep my electric on. They have already been here once to collect payment and I managed to get a supervised to extend it.for me while the guy stood.there ready to cut.it off. I know it doesn’t matter, we.don’t know each other but I just needed to vent. I’m scared and beside my 3 little ones, alone.

I filed 1/27 accepted 1/29 received letter 1/31 saying my taxes had been filed and that if I did in fact file then I need not respond to letter. I still am waiting for refund. I emailed the lady Sandra @ 8am from thread she responded for more info and said she would have a manager call me. Not sure if that’s good or bad. I know I have offset, but I have had one before and have seen others that did and already have refund.

After emailing several ppl yesterday. I god a ddd today. The website updated at 8:00 for me. I checked all up to that point and I was still processing. I filed/accepted on 1/27. I was told by an idiot yesterday after I was told I was approved that I had to amend my taxes. The rep that I talked to clearly didn’t know what she was talking about because my funds was released to my bank today so it should post tomorrow.

I emailed [email protected] her name is Sandra or something like that. She forwarded my info to taxpayer services. They called and originally said they couldn’t find my return. She placed me on hold and found it. Told me she would forward it to a supervisor. She called me back an hour later and told me I was placed in review because I filed on my phone and it didn’t give an IP address and I had a prepaid card which flagged me as fraudulent. I verified everything and the supervisor released mine from review. That was on Friday. Got approved today but funds haven’t hit my account yet

I will call.and email everyday until I get it. My bet, I’ll get fed before state. I pay all taxes at end of year. I worked for one place for 10 years and am self employed. I do a.1099 misc but I lose about 3000 out of fed and maybe 1000 for state but not sure. Every year I use same dd. Account. Seems it started with the hold on actc and eitc. -
That’s who responded to me in fb. This is my 2nd year being reviews and nothing has changed in 8 years. I told her that and everything that is happening from this. I hope she does something. She seemed like she wanted to help so we shall see

Getting fed up I filed 1/16 and TT States I was accepted by MD on 1/27 but when I emailed the comptroller the head assistant lady said I wasn’t accepted until 1/29 and to give it 30 days. Basically didn’t tell me a dang thing useful I’m pretty sure I got my taxes faster last time I filed and I chose a paper check that time, this is crazy I’ve seen so many people file an get their money 2-3 days later.

I just want to say that’s the same thing that happened to me. I paid extra just to make sure everything is good only to be told the same exact thing. It doesn’t make any sense. I never rec’d anything from the state saying I owed them anything which I know I don’t. To make it worse, I called and spoke to someone who couldn’t help me and now I have to wait 10 days to find out why or someone to return my call before then. SMH….

Our taxes were processed yesterday 2/9/2020, we filed with H&R block, even paid extra for their tax expert to go over everything before filing. We were supposed to get a refund but MD’s website said that it was processed but we’re not getting any refund and that we’ll receive a letter in the mail explaining why!!! There’s no reason why we shouldn’t get our refund, none! Thankfully this is the last time we’ll have to file taxes with MD since we moved out last year.

I called In this morning and the rep I talked to said that I was approved yesterday and that she wasn’t sure why the funds weren’t released to my bank yet. My status still says processing and still no money so I called again about an hour ago to make sure the info I was given was correct. This time I was told that $100 was taken for an offset and that’s the only thing approved so far, I’m still waiting for my refund to be approved. I’m really confused and not sure who to believe at this point.

Heads up. For anyone who did their return on their phone and/or did a return with funds going to a prepaid card you are flagged for review.
Phones are coming up as something with no up address and people who commit fraud usually have a prepaid card

So I was accepted on 1/27 with a ddd of 1/30. Nothing ever was deposited on my TurboTax card so I called the prepaid 1800 number and was told that they sent my deposit back to the comptroller because my info supposedly couldn’t be verified. I called the comptroller and was told that my bank (TurboTax prepaid) sent them the funds back and they mailed a paper check yesterday morning. I’m never using the TurboTax prepaid card again.

Nothing ever came on the card so I decided to call the tt customer service number and they sent my money back to Maryland state saying that my information didn’t match. I called The comptroller yesterday and was told that they received the funds back and mailed out a check yesterday morning. So now I have to wait. I’m highly irritated.

After calling again, because I did receive a review letter, I also received one last year and in 2017, I did receive my refund for all those years, I had the rep check to find out if anything was wrong because I again only had one job, there was nothing wrong with my return. When I used Turbo tax, I even had the CPA go over everything and signed up for the audit protection. I know for sure that I am not being audited and I don’t believe anyone else on this forum that has received the letter is getting audited either. I think we are picked at random and it sucks. ITS THE STATE OF MARYLAND people and it’s crap because everyone is not a cheat or dishonest. We work and we just want our money. I didn’t get my state last year until Valentine’s day.

Just called. Filed 1/28 accepted the 28th processing still. Received review letter yesterday. Apparently EVERYONE receiving a review letter who filed online is getting audited. Since refunds submitted electronically do not show them the tax papers such as w2 information they go through the return manually line by line. This can take 45 days apparently

If you are still waiting, you will most likely get a DDD today. it takes 3 to 7 business days to process your return. If you have not received a letter, you are still processing. Today will make the 7th day from being accepted so im looking forward to a DDD. The system begins updating around 10:18 am. Hope this helps my patiently waiting folks:)

just checked an my MD refund was approved and released today. But I checked for my husband and it says that his was adjusted and the rest was sent to his account. A letter will be sent in the mail with details on the adjustment. So I called the offset number and there is nothing under his social for federal or state so I’m not understanding what the hell is going on. This year MD is on it’s best bullsh*it. SMFH

I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I did not have issues with.My bills when it happened. I lost them in summer. Work ended up cut in half in December which caused me to call behind. If I have to choose which to pay first between mortgage, electric and food.for.my.kids,health Insurance,.etc… I want them to have a roof over there heads. I’m a single.mom working hard everyday to take care of my children. So priorities? I know my priorities, but some people have money issues once in a while -

So this year I filed with HR block on 1/17- I had some extra forms to file this year so I decided to let a pro do it . The HR block app said state was accepted when I checked Monday but there was no date. Today I get a text from HR block saying states was accepted today and now the app shows accepted with today’s date. I’m assuming this means that they just truly accepted it today. MD site says not received or not processed yet. I’m confused bc I thought Maryland only updated once and that was when it was processed but it looks like some of y’all are getting received and processing messages. The website updated to your return has not been processed and a page long explanation of common reasons why. I first noticed it last Friday, received my refund Monday morning, letter came the same day.
Offsets for MD are usually money owed to a college, MVA fines, public defender fees, unemployment, child support. Stuff like that. They don’t offer a complete list anywhere that I can find. They may be sending it to offset department to make sure you don’t owe anything OR, the person who told you this is trying to justify why you don’t have your money.

I emailed the obsubman and they responded and said it was approved today and has to clear their offset department which takes 2 days and should be going out by thu or friday…I dont have an offest what does that mean? I cant screenshot the email here but can PM anyone who would like to see it or who would like the email address

I filed on 2/24 accepted the same day, received a letter dated 2/26 under review. Still nothing, and when I called they said they had up to 45 days. Federal accepted the same day and had to identify myself. They say allow up to 9 weeks for the refund. Smh I’m a 1099 but I have been for years. These ppl are really a mess.

I received a much smaller refund than expected today. The letter that came explained that MD no longer recognizes income without a w2 or 1099. I called and the woman confirmed this is the policy. No more MD taxes on unverifiable income 😉

Still nothing for me. Thursday will be 45 days. You’d think it would get easier as the weeks drag on, but every day I wonder why this even happened.

@meesh no nothing for me yet but i read on the md tax website you can get a hardship payment like for example if you find out you owe some one and they take your taxes and you really need your money go on the website and download the hardship paperwork and submit you get one in a lifetime hopefully this helps you goodluck and i will be taking the same steps after the review is over

@Its my money…. anything for u yet? I called last friday was put on hold for 18 min and 43 seconds for them to tell me its almost done and to call back this week. I emailed them along with the Gov, Mayor and County exec Alsobrooks. They emailed me back in a protected message saying my email had been escalated to the proper department. Called back wen was told I would get a call back between 430 and 730 pm.. a lady named Ingrid called me back and said its still processing be patient!!!! Like bish what???? I waited all day for that? And still…. im waiting. Hope youve had better luck. At first I just wanted it back but now I need it back as im going thru a personal hardship. They dont give a f***!

Hey guys! I got my fed yesterday at 610pm. I need my MD also. Its weird they sent me a review letter and thats all they can tell me. How long does it take to review a simple tax return with same dependents same EVERYTHING? This my friends is utterly ridiculous! Im disgusted😐

Well I too am in the same boat with you all filed 2/2…accepted same day…spoke with someone on Friday 2/22 who advised my return is under manual review…I received my Fed on Friday…which is great but I need my state as well…they told me they have 45 days from the date of the letter I received in mail which was dated 2/5…I pray that Iam not audited and they just deposit my refund…45 days is March 23rd…I wanna cry….hope it doesnt take that long…praying for us all

I’ve been searching everything and found 1 person say 3 weeks to the day, their MD refund was received. I messaged them on FB on Friday and was told I can call them after my manual review is complete to see what triggered it. Kind of really just hoping I get a deposit at some point and not an audit. So I wait. And like you, my federal dd is 2/27. Today marks 3 weeks since my MD return was received. I can’t find more than 4 or 5 people dealing with this. Last year, only a couple and they did get their refunds within a month.

I filed 2/3 got the letter about a week later and still waiting. I read some got approved not long after the letter came. Some called every day and somehow got their refund. No luck for me. I will let you know when I do finally get approved.

I finally called after receiving that 45 day review for fraud letter. She said everything is okay and to just be patient. She did actually look up my return when I asked if I messed up by creating a new account this year and she assured me since nothing is actually different from a way I have filed in the past, just be patient.

A supervisor named mr. Hill called me back and asked about the help i received today i told him what happened he apologized and asked if i needed any assistance with my return i said no and we ended the call i shoulda asked a million question but i was off gaurd when he called 😑😑

I don’t think we can make it stop. I filed 1/28 was accepted 11pm on 1/28 and got a letter dated 1/31 that I was being reviewed but a lot of the letter did talk about identity theft! I take care of a home and property and am self employed. Nothing has really changed on mine from previous years! I have no clue why so many of us are going through this. I always got my refund within a week. I don’t owe the state or fed and student loans are all up to date so I can only guess they will find a reason to make this process long and stressful until they get word that I had a nervous breakdown -
I don’t know if this matters but I had a w2 and I was self employed and my husband and I had a joint return this year after filing separately for quite a few years. We also lost our oldest dependent because she’s not a dependent anymore. We are being reviewed for the first time ever. Last year, I was not a resident but had to file nonresident to get back a tiny little bit of money I had that was mistakenly taken by MD. I got my refund back in like 3 days. My husband usually has his in 5. I don’t know if they have something against women as my husband has always gotten back a few dollars more than me when we always make about the same or I pay in more and this year I put my name first on our return. Or its a self employed issue. But my husband has been self employed for 15 years or so. We don’t owe any money to state or federal. I don’t know why we’re being reviewed. And I don’t know how to make it stop. I filed 2/3 on the MD comptroller website and received the letter to do nothing on 2/9.

Nothing has changed with mine yet. I am thinking about having someone else look at my return. I have the invoices of what I was paid and my very few expenses are logged (thank god because all my stuff got ruined when my basement flooded) but my expenses were less this time and I don’t owe the state or fed so I just am lost and feel like everything is going wrong (not just taxes) my fridge completely went up so my food is outside, my car has 6 error codes that need fixed to pass inspection this year. 😢

So I just called once again and now they tell me I’m under review. So I said well I called a couple days again and specifically asked if I was under review and was told that I was not and that I just haven’t been processed yet. And the lady said well alot of our employees don’t know how to check if the return is under review or not they just see rather it finished processing. I then asked when was I pulled for review and she said January 25th which was the day I was accepted. I’m hoping this is a good thing bc from what I see on here you get told your under review then approved within days. She said it could take 30 to 45 days but it should’nt for a simple return and she believes they will be releasing my money soon🤞🏽🙏🏽

I know last year and the year before once they approved my state I had it on my Netspend later that day. A few times around 5 pm and a a few times at around 11pm at night same day. But never instantly -
My loans are in pay as you earn or whatever but I called the offset for fed and I have none. They will take state and fed for that.

I thought if they said its approved and adjusted at 8:30am and released that applying it to a prepaid card would be almost instant. Just have to be patient I guess.

Did you get a review letter? I don’t get it! Everything is the same! I even keep a log book of the few expenses I have for the one property I care for. I make next to nothing and they are just effing me. My fridge is barely staying cold, my heating unit went up and I am using a cheap electric heater to Keep the rooms the kids are in warm and the refund was to fix this stuff so all I can do is pray the temps don’t drop again

Filed w/Credit Karma tax on 2/3/19 Federal was accepted on the same day. However, I still have not received acceptance notice from Maryland state. Anyone else have this problem of not receiving notice that the Maryland return was accepted?

I got the letter today. It did not say why but I only make 16,000 a year and pay self employment at end of yr. no different then any other year. I add in what I buy to clean and take care of the property and that’s not much so I am just bummed. I use any refund to fix what is broke or make sure the kids have their needs met. Im never buy stuff for myself. And this year has been bad.

Hi everyone. I don’t normally give my two cents on this type of stuff, but I’m an accountant and have been really learning this e-file system inside and out. I’m on a bunch of different message boards and have noticed a common theme.
I e-filed the first day the IRS was officially accepting returns, 1/28 (late at night).
When I woke up on 1/29, I had text messages saying both my federal and state had been accepted.MD:

Expecting to see Refund Approved on WMR this Saturday or next Saturday, because I am on the weekly cycle.I say all of this because I’ve noticed when people get antsy for their returns and jump the gun by filing before the official opening of the IRS, they ALWAYS get screwed.
You should try to hold off and wait to e-file until the official first day they accept returns. If you file before this date, they (IRS and MD) actually start reviewing the people that filed on the opening day first. Then your return gets looked at after that batch.
I know it seems backwards, but that’s how it is. I’m on like 3 or 4 message boards and I’m seeing all of the same complaints. If you got lucky and filed early and already have your return, you’re in the minority and got lucky.

Don’t lose hope Petty and Antsy. I swear this is maybe the second time that I have filed and I’ve gotten an update before I received my deposit. Mine usually says processing when I have money waiting in the bank. Unless they’re trying to be more accurate now (which I highly doubt) you might end up with a surprise deposit. Three state of Maryland is usually like 4 days tops. Plus despite popular opinion, they want to get rid of the money as fast as they can because the government is not allowed to make interest from refunds.

You know… I really do hate this administration. We receive all of these notifications warning us to file at the specified time but we can’t get our refunds back in the specified time. Of course I made a phone call and they just told me ANYTHING in order to go to the next caller. I was told it takes a maximum of 45 days to process and post. Thursday made 45 days. It’s Saturday now… So what’s the excuse now?! The system is updated on Saturdays at approx. 1030am… It’s 1115am. Maryland is a poor excuse for a state. It’s like they want us to treat the local govt. better than it treats us. So anyway… Where’s my state tax refund and give your lying ass “answer the phone idiots” a break. Thanks!!!

I’m with you! same thing i filed mine 2/21 got back my federal first week of March BUT Maryland sent me a letter asking for my 1099’s which i provided within 2 days. 3/14/18
So i just emailed them yesterday because my status had been stuck at “received and in processing since 3/20/18
and the response they sent me this morning was that it was received, entered in their system but not update yet UGH
So i just sent another email and CC’d the two emails that @SAA listed below
so fingers crossed it gets things moving -

You filed at the same time as me. I’m pretty sure that mine was just getting bounced around in the computer system, and would have continued to do so if no one had manually processed it. If you haven’t already reached out to the Ombudsman or a higher up at the Comptroller’s office, I would do that before Weds. If you need the info, let me know.

So, my online status changed again today to not processed. This is the 3rd Friday in a row that this has happened and then around Monday or Tuesday it would a witch to being processed.
Noticing a pattern, I contacted the Comptroller’s office and face them this information along with detailed documentation of every call and email that I made and the responses that I received.
I finally got a response from the Comptroller’s Chief of Staff. They can’t figure out the cause of my delay but promised that my check will go out the door via FedEx today.

So I called again today to see if anything has changed because once again no update… So the lady i talked to today said that they received my copy of my 1099 misc yesterday. And that it was being possessed now to give it 7-14 days . But she said there is no problems just has to be reprocessed and will be released soo. Not the best news but sum news all least.

I see a lot of people who filed before my acceptance date and I already got a direct deposit date as of yesterday mines took 6 days this year the next day approved after accepted last year and the years before always been within 3 days also my husband had to wait almost 2 weeks last year and this year he didn’t have to wait past 3 days as accepted on the 8 and approved yesterday also with the 3 day time frame so maybe its a hit or miss but it is crazy its not first come first serve but everyone tax situation is different

My amended return was processed and approved. Now they seem not to know whether it will be direct deposit or a paper check smh. Thats better then nothing. Tim email the [email protected] and call them. I called daily 2 or 3 times a day to get my file processed.

Received a letter on 2/05 stating they needed documentation for me refund. I called and asked the same day what kind of documentation they needed the lady said a copy of my 1099-misc would be fine. I sent it the SAME DAY!!! Have not got an update since that day.
Called them about 5 min ago and the man who answers said I quote ” we have not received any documents for your return”
What kind of shit is this I had tracking on the letter they received it 2/6. He emailed his supervisor and told her my situation. Idk why I always have to go thru this every year it’s always something. He said the supervisor was going to give me a call … We shall see!!! -
So I called. I was told nothing is wrong they just pull randomly for review and to allow another 2 weeks and if I don’t hear anything to call back. A bullsh*t answer. I will call again everyday until I get an answer.

The Identification card is not sufficient. They are requesting some kind of documentation that proves you are residing in OH. A copy of a lease agreement would be your best bet at this point unless you can provide any more documentation from the list on the letter enclosed.
Why in the world would this even matter???? If anything I could see then requestung proof I lived in MD but this us like wtf???

so I called this morning and was told that my refund has been approved but yet online it still says it’s processing. So if it’s been approved why hasn’t it been updated? they said give it a couple more days. What do I need to give it a couple more days for if it’s been approved what is the hold up

I received an email from the Ombudsman yesterday:
“I have looked at your account again today and I am trying to get your return expedited. It is still going through processing as planned. I appreciate your patience as we work towards processing your refund accurately. I estimate you receiving your refund hopefully before the end of the week.”
Idk if this means that they believe there’s an error or what. His first email to me last week stated that the delay was to “confirm the integrity of the returns we have received and to protect the security of Maryland taxpayers.” Now it’s to ensure that my return is accurate.
Seems we get the runaround from all levels. And the “by the end of the week” line is getting old.

I called in today and was told its being forwarded to the supervisor because its been 2 weeks and to check for a change in staus later this week.

Just an update I called this am after seeing I did not update. I spoke with a female rep that told me my return was in the last stages of review before being approved. I told her I spoke to a male rep last Friday and was told the samething as well. I also told her that the rep stated it can only be in processing for no more than 2 weeks, then she stated she was forwarding it to someone so that can it be released.

Can someone please give me the number you’re calling to get through to a live person? My husband and I filed jointly on 1/29 and we were accepted the same day. We still have no refund date and our status is “processing” under my social and “not processed” under my husbands??? good morning all so I called the Comptroller’s office this morning, because the status to check the refund stated well it went from your return has not been processed to your return is being processed so I called to see what was going on. And was told that it was approved Friday evening into Saturday and that it should update by tomorrow but they don’t have my banking information she said I get a check and I’m like how when I gave you my banking information when I filed. So she said call back tomorrow and see. At this point I don’t care check or direct deposit just give me my money lol. Still praying for you Timothy

Hey Guys I wanted to give an update,
Again Filed 1/31 and accepted 2/1. Received a letter this weekend dated 2/2 that my return needed further review and no action required at this time.
I called this morning pretending not to have gotten a letter. a rep simply told me that it hasn’t been processed yet but that he also had a different address on file for me (which was weird because they mailed the letter to the new address)(anyway). He update the address for me and told me to give it a few more days.
I don’t know hopefully they just wanted to confirm my new address and now the ball can keep rolling. If I don’t have an update by Wednesday I’m going to call again. I shouldn’t have to wait 2 weeks for my refund. That’s crazy.
Anybody else going through what I am?

Thanks everybody the letter was dated 2/2 so it’s a week old. I feel like they just want to hear from me to make sure it’s me or something. I’ll play dumb when I call. I filed 1/31 and was accepted 2/2. Nothing should be wrong in particular to my knowledge. I think if it was bad or they needed something they would have said so by now ya know.

@timothy see my previous post below. Received the same response in response to my email enquiry. 2 days later was approved and given a DD date. Monies should hit my account tomorrow. I would wait 2 days to see if anything changes. Sometimes it’s best not to call after you have gotten an initial response.

@timothy I would. Just see what they say. Me personally I will act like I never got the letter or I didn’t know anything about it and just inquire about my return to see what they say. Then you will know for sure if when you called they’re giving you the runaround and b******* info or are they really being truthful because they would bring the notice up. You may like up and get somebody really nice. Every time I call and on Friday I spoke with two very nice ladies, they said I had no error codes or they didn’t see any issues and that Monday it should be approved. But we shall see. I never received a letter or anything. I’ll say a prayer for you. I hope it all works out. Keep us posted, as well as I will keep you posted.

So I got a letter today that my return is in the process of a thorough review. The review is part of our normal process to ensure accuracy of the information on the return. It is says I’m not required to do anything. Does anyone know how long this takes? Should I just call on Monday?

@kara It took my refund 7 business days to be approved this year. I was accepted 1/29 and wasn’t approved till 2/7. Not counting 1/29, 2/7 was the 7th business day. Counting 1/29, 2/7 would of been the 8th business day so I bet you see an approval on Monday.

I just got,off the phone with someone. She stated that it takes 5 to 8 business days to process and I told her people have filed on Tuesday have been approved. She seemed shocked. She told me I had no error codes. Which is good. She did say that they were backed up and that they were pretty much running on schedule now. She said give it till Monday😒. Monday will be my 8th business day. So we are going to see. This is utterly ridiculous……

@Kara I’m in the same situation as you. I filed thru TT on 1/31 and was accepted on 1/31. It went from being processing, to have not been processed. I called yesterday to speak to someone and I was told to leave my info and someone will call me back before 7pm and of course that never happened. I get a missed call and a voice mail from them saying “If you have anymore problems call us back”…..I thought that meant that they updated my status or sent my $$$….LOL. I checked the site and it’s the same oh sorry message. I just sent a email and I hope someone reply soon.

Spoje to a rep 5 mins ago, I was told they are still processing my return. The normal processing time is 4-5 days. They guve the review department at least 2 weeks to complete processing and if its not done within the 2 weeks from the dat the return is accepted they have to request the retuen and expedite the process. I also asked if they updated on weekends he said they updated anytime of the day including weekends but the online systems uodates once daily. The rep told me if I dont see a change by Tuesday because that will be my weeks to give them a call back.

Wanted to share this with you guys! filed on 1/29 approved on 1/30. stayed in processing the whole time. Finally bite the bullet and emailed them Wednesday morning around 11 am. By that afternoon got a response to my email stating that;
Thank you for your email.
We received your return and are in the process of conducting a thorough review of your return information. This review is part of our normal process to ensure the accuracy of the information on the return. You are not required to do anything at this time unless you did not file a tax return.
Then this morning got this good news update!
Your refund has been adjusted and was approved on 2/9/2018. If you requested a direct deposit of your refund, it was released to your account on the approved date. According to Federal Reserve Guidelines, the funds should be available within 48 hours. You will receive a letter explaining the changes.
I expected a small offset for past due unemployment so that was no surprise. All is well that ends well!
To be honest, i think there are just working through the backlog. So if you dont receive an and you filed around 1/29, go ahead and email them, at least it will get your return pulled to the front of the line. Good luck everyone!

The ombudsmen told me yesterday to give him 1-2 business days to look into it. So…. that puts me at 2 weeks since acceptance.
Literally, all in asking from them is a realistic update and correct information.

I know it’s b******* because like I stated it’s people that have filed on Monday and got their returns back already. People that filed after me has gotten their money. That’s why I asked them is there a problem. If I was under review or anything, wouldn’t they tell me? Like it’s been almost 7 business days this is crazy. You e-filed, I presume? The fact is, if it “sometimes” takes up to four weeks, then THAT’S what they need to state on their website. It says however; that returns are typically processed the SAME day that they are accepted, and those who e-file and choose DD should have their $ in 4-7 days.
It’s ridiculous. I’d be a little more sympathetic if I were ever given the same information twice. But, I’m not.

I called back again because another person who filed on the 4th got their refund back. And the lady says she doesn’t see any issues with my return sometimes it takes longer up to 4 weeks. This is crazy. Never in my whole life have I ever had to wait this long for a Maryland return

Mine was accepted on 1/30. Was “being processed” on 1/31. Switched to “not processed” on 2/2. Back to “being processed” on 2/5. Then back to “not processed” on 2/7. No change in status today and rep states that she’s showing that my return is being processed. The standard, cookie cutter statements are becoming tiresome and the misinformation frustrating.

I just spoke with someone else so hopefully this helps someone else. I was now told i shouldnt habe amended my return that I should have just submitted a copy of my fed tax return, form 502b and a copy of my id to the fax number. IF THE IFILE SYSTEM DIDNT ADD YOUR DEPENDANTS DO NOT AMEND! Now I was told to fax the office and ask for a expedited processing of my amended refund. Pray they do so.

I called in this morning when I didn’t update. I spoke to a rep named Laura, and she stated my return was accepted on 1/31 but TT said it was accepted on 1/29 and although it normally takes 4-5 days to process with the back up its take a little longer then expected. She said to give them a few more days.

@kara I emailed them on Friday and they just told me my return was processing and to give more time. I emailed them again on Monday and I have yet to receive a reply. I have called the number and everytime it says it has its maximum number of callers. I don’t know what else to do.

This is just messed up in every way… I filed my moms taxes on the 3oth, accepted the 31st and she received hers on Friday the 2nd. My friend filed on Saturday and received hers 2 days ago. Why are we being penalized for filing early? Why are they not taking care of the returns that were filed first before handling the new ones coming in. I just don’t get it. This F**king sucks!!

So,
MD messed a bunch of stuff in their system. Their ifile system didnt update dependants social security numbers or information at all. So many peopke including me got the message we didnt quailfy for eic and wouldn’t get a refund. I amdended it and added it and called they now told me 8-12 weeks. Smh. The person ever said she saw where they werent on the orginal return however in order yo do you return you must get passed that screen. Word of caution never use their ifile system. Sucks….

Fingers and toes crossed that at least there is an update today for those who filed on ore around 1/29 and was accepted on 1/30. First time ever that Ive gotten my Federal refund today before my state. Federal said it was being sent to the bank today and this morning got the DD notification email from my bank that funds were available! Grateful, but feel bad for others who was depending on MD! Had them in my budget as a sure bet, so now I’m reluctant to start paying off debt with my Federal, just in case MD throws me a curve ball; but hey it doesn’t hurt to be optimistic and i will be having a Starbucks coffee tomorrow for my birthday instead of Maxwell house, courtesy of the feds efficiency this year!! For everyone who was told their return was processed yesterday, check your online status today after 10:30am it should update (if the system is working properly today). They say by Friday because the funds would be sent today and they say to allow 48 hours for the funds to be available in your account.

Hey guys…I called yesterday. They told me there was a glitch in their system Friday and Monday so they are about two days behind. Probably an excuse but that’s what they told me. So I filed 1/29 accepted early 1/30. They told me mine should have been done yesterday, but give it an additional 1-2 days. I know it sucks. The wait is making me angry lol

I just called and spoke with a representative to check the status of my return as I submitted through H & R Block (have used them for the last 5 years) on the 1/26 and was accepted 1/30. Online checker states my return has been received and is still processing. He stated my refund had been released yesterday and takes 24 to 48 hours to hit my account. He did state the computer system is not updating correctly. I was worried something was wrong with my return so I just called to check on it. That may be a better option to those worried about a possible review or audit. But in all honesty I think the state just was overwhelmed with all the returns and not prepared properly. They are behind and it’s just taking a couple more days longer. We will get our money just a few days later. Hope everyone else gets there’s soon too.

My federal refund was about $4000 and my state is $730. Why is it taking so long to give me my damn $730. I’m happy I got my federal but I want all my damn money.

@Kara the state of Maryland always open filing season the same day as the irs never early. Yes this tax is started late for Fed and our State so yes more early filers. I’m disappointed with the lack of communication. This is a state that supposedly takes pride in fast returns. If there is a system error that is affecting so many why not make an announcement. It’s disappointing. We’ve got no choice but to wait if course but the frustration is real.

Hi. I have been stalking because, like many, my return is taking longer than normal to process. I called the Comptroller today. Apparently, there was an influx of returns received on the 30th (accepted on the 29th). I told her that other people who filed after are processing fine. It is that particular day that is backlogged in their system. She reassured me everything is fine just give until the end of the week.

So I called and spoke with a representative. He stated with me that there is a backup and a double A because they opened later this year, and also there were so many early filers. So they said that they are running behind on process of return. He personally check my return and said that he didn’t see any issues that just give it a couple more days for them to catch up. One thing you’ll have to remember is that the state usually opens up before the IRS, and this year they opened up the same time it was delayed. So they have to catch up all those early filers and the people who filed after so it’s going to take some time. I hope this is some help to someone. -

I was accepted the same day but a lot later in the day and still waiting but everyone still waiting was accepted around the same time.

Yea, I’m none of that/don’t claim any of that and was put through dealing with it (or so they say) In fact my return hasn’t changed in years, and completely the same as last year including my DD info. I do think they also don’t always know what they are talking about and will just say whatever to get you off the phone. I mean I will never know if I was really under a “review” both those years because I never received anything about it officially stating that’s what it was. All my years of filing and those 2 years were the only years I ever had issues.

to be practical , if ur are self employed , claimed 50,00000 in deductions or single filing divorced and head of household may be looked at little harder. I was reviewed by MD state for two years in a row. Took 2-3 weeks to get my refund back both years. Screen just sat on “being processed” the whole time until I was approved. Only found out by calling/emailing them. They didn’t want me to do anything but wait. Never received anything in the mail. They said if they needed anything they would let me know (I guess send a letter but never did). Finally 2-3 weeks later I got my refund. I haven’t had a problem since though

I checked a couple of times before 9a and it said that it had not processed. It seemed weird considering that I received emails from Turbo Tax starting otherwise on Sunday. Again, I even tried with two amounts just to see what it would say. Giving the wrong amount with my social told me that something was off. So, I’ve been lurking for the past few hours trying to gage my own situation. No refund as of yet but I guess I’ll chime in. Here’s my situation:
Filed using TT on Sunday morning (2/4) and finished up around 2am; amazingly, both my state and Fed were both accepted within minutes of filing according to two subsequent emails from TT; Checked the state’s website and it says that it had not processed. However, strangely, I tried with two different amounts and got the same ‘not yet processed’ result. I’m guessing I was experiencing that glitch that everyone was talking about. Checked the Fed’s site and it informed me that my return was accepted and may take up to 21 days to process (ok, cool, sounds about right).
Normally, I get my state within 3 days. Last year, I filed on Feb 19th and had a DD by the 23rd. This year, I can’t even get a timely update. -
I just got off the phone with a rep and he told me they are so behind because of people trying to file early.

I.just emailed my Representative and Senators. If nothing else, the Office of the Comptroller should be obligated to provide Marylanders with accurate info. Their site still says mist returns are processed the day that they are transmitted and the refunds should be in your account within 4-7 days if filed electronically.
I’d advise others to do the same. Reps are typically very responsive, as they’re always trying to keep their job!

Clarifying g on what negasonic said. The actual time is 48-72 BUSINESS HOURS. That means don’t stress untill 6-9 working business days have passed. If you get it sooner, lucky you, most of us should see a change by the end of this week. I was told very specifically if I haven’t seen a status change be it good or bad, by Friday, call that day.

MD refunds never take this long so it’s understandable why people are upset. I’m not crying for money but it would be nice to put this refund in my savings. This is the first time that I will receive my federal check before my state. MD needs to send out an email or update there website letting people know it’s a problem on their end.

@BrokenWaiting Dont despair. Know for a fact it is a MD State mandate, inacted by Govt Larry Hogan that MD returns are supposed to be processed within 3 days. Obviously there is some sort of systems failure, but I doubt it will take 4-7 weeks to be remediated. Hang in there.

WOW, really thought that I would have my MD state refund today since Maryland accepted them on 1/30 and they have been in the processing status since. BUT….
NO, TODAY – here is what I see:

Anyone have any experience with iFiling and emailing in required documentation? I had to submit my certificate for Student Loan Debt Relief Credit eligibility. iFiled on 1/30, submitted documentation on 1/31. Status has said processing ever since the 31st. Historically, I receive my state refund within days, but this is the first time that I’ve had to send in documentation. In 2018, you’d think they’d have the option of attaching a PDF.

If you call the general tax information line, go to personal income tax help OPTION 2, They can look out up. The did a website update and it is an error. Should be back to normal soon. Mine shows not process online, shows processing in computers that comptroller employee looked me up in.

Sorry Betty. Last year it took 5 weeks and I only got it after calling the comptroller and emailing through my frustration. I’m always the last. Hopefully it means that an update is coming today or tomorrow for you all!

but i recall last year mines doing this and then sometime after 3:00 it changed to approved with the DDD….so hoping this is a glitch with the system…..I have been reading other states and this seems to be the reaccuring theme.

I filed 1/26 my State was accepted 1/29. 1/31 it updated to received and processing and said the same on 2/1. Now it says not received like what is going on. Took 4 weeks to get my federal last year and 5 weeks to get Maryland back. They were so incredibly slow last year. Hoping it moves faster this year! No offsets. This year filed and accepted 1/30 and today updated to processing.

My husband filed and was accepted 1/29/18 and got his Maryland state refund back yesterday morning.
I filed 1/29/2018, was accepted 1/30/2018 and as of today 2/1/18 it still shows processing. Neither of us have offsets. -

I’ve been calling and all they can tell me is that it’s processing. I filed on Jan. 23 and accepted the same day. However, MD is saying they didn’t extract it for processing until Feb.1 which is absolutely absurd. The supervisor I spoke with today said they had a meeting this morning and they have to tell everyone that it could take up to 30 days. Pissed to say the least. 😡

So I filed my state on 1/30, accepted 1/30. I actually had my refund in my Wells Fargo bank account on Friday, 2/3. I was shocked because Maryland usually waits for federal to finish processing so I didn’t expect it. I went and checked after the deposit and my approval date was 2/2 and said it would be sent to the bank same day.
I read a press release from Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot who said if they can verify your wages, they will process it. He also said that about 60 companies were being rejected and they stopped taking tax returns from Liberty because they received many fraudulent ones. Small companies and self employment will have to wait until after Federal processes. Luckily I work for the State and that is my only job. Same kids for past 10 years. No issues and a simple return with EITC. I have one bar for accepted on IRS site.

Did they find something wrong with my return? Or did I just get it all took I owe the state money (I’m not sure how much) ? Wouldn’t they tell me in the message I been offset?
This is the message I got this morning ” You will not be receiving a refund. You should receive a letter within 10 business days from the processing date explaining the circumstances.”
I know I’m getting the letter but I was wondering if anyone else got this message in the past and can help me figure out why!! -

Is anyone else having an issue receiving their MD state refund on the Emerald card? I was approved on the 27th. The site says a direct deposit was sent on the same day and should be received within 48 hours. I now understand the weekends don’t count but it’s over 48 hours and I still don’t have my money.
At this point direct deposit is not faster than a paper check. I would’ve received it by mail tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. Has anyone received their State on the Emerald card? If so, how long did it take? Thanks!

I know that some prepaid cards hold your funds. Why? Idk. So check your card around 6:30 am
MD Refunds are normally returned within a week but this year it’s slower because they had a lot of rejections & glitches.
If you owe they will intercept your money meaning they will take it out of your refund and then deposit the rest.
Sorry I didn’t put y’all users name next to the answers but I hope that I’ve been some sort of assistance

The thing I’m ticked off about is on the republic Bank site I can see my refund there since 9 am this morning, but they’re not issuing it to my amex serve card yet and it’s frustrating. No one knows anything at Jackson Hewitt. And amex customer service has not pending deposit for it? What’s going on??

Filed on 1/23 and got accepted on 1/23, got the message Friday 1/27 that my money was sent DD.
I used 1040.com so hopefully money will be in my bank account on Monday because they should have received it on Friday….fingers crossed.

Everyone else, I was a MD resident for years and they were always pretty fast, I o remember that they usually deposit around 1030-1100 in the morning unless you have Netspend or one of those accounts that makes your money available early.

I was never accepted. I usually get accepted the day it is open to be accepted and get refund within a week. I received message from Turbotax on Friday saying it was rejected and that it was rejected due to incorrect locality tax. I filled out the stuff properly with the correct county code and there isn’t a local tax where I live.
The message on turbotax said that there would be a software fix Feb 1st. I also noticed that line 28 had a local tax on my return and it did not.
It may be that you where you lived wasn’t affected by thier software glitch. If you already are waiting for your refund I am sure that is the case. -
Does that Info apply to people who were never rejected? Because my state refund has been sent to my bank I’m just waiting for it to show up in my account.

I did the Jackson Hewitt loans so I assumed that’s what the adjustment was. I was approved for the full $1300 but usually they take those out of my federal.

The adjustment message means that you owed the state in someway. Could be a 100 different reasons from loans unpaid to tolls to traffic tickets and beyond. You can call Monday and they will tell you exactly what it is.

My sister and I was both accepted on the 23rd (opening day). However it still says not yet processed. I called them 1/25 and they said they did recieve mine actually on the 21st which is the day I filed and to give them a few more days to process. Last year I got my MD refund 2 days after opening day so this is ridiculous. Will update here when I get approved.

I was told at 4 pm today MD delayed accepting state taxes until today. I filed on the 18th and was told they couldn’t send my state via e-file bc they weren’t accepting until the 19th, like federal. I called to check today bc I’ve gotten updated on my federal, texts and via website, but nothing on state. I just received a text at 6 pm stating my MD was accepted.

Hello Mike, mine is doing the same exact thing. I was accepted 01/20 at 6:16 PM, but the MD site is not updated with my information. So I called and they said they can see it in their system. I dialed (410) 260-7701. Instead of pushing #1 and inputting your SSN, just wait on the line and someone will come through.
