I had a baby last year and my husband claims his son every other year. So we added 2 kids for 2020. If they don’t update my transcripts and/or approve my return before the stimulus goes out is it going to cost me $2400??

@ImpatientPather: Hopefully when they process your 2020 return, they’ll also send you your $2800.

March 11, 2021 at 9:46 pm #4469167So many questions
Same sort of question- my oldest was a dependent In 2019. 2020 he filed and is no longer a dependent. His return for 2020 is completed and refund received. My 2020 is in NA Lala land , still being processed.
So will he still get his stimulus payment even if I get it for 2019? He doesn’t have a 2019 return. He was a dependent until 2020

https://www.kiplinger.com/taxes/602396/when-will-your-third-stimulus-check-arrive
Your filing status, AGI, and number of dependents will be taken from either your 2019 or 2020 return. If your 2020 return is already filed and processed when the IRS is ready to send your payment, your stimulus check will be based on information from your 2020 return. If your 2020 return isn’t filed and processed at that point, the IRS will use your 2019 return. If your 2020 return is filed and/or processed after the IRS sends you a stimulus check, but before July 15, 2021 (or September 1 if the April 15 filing deadline is pushed back), the IRS will send you a second payment for the difference between what your payment should have been if based on your 2020 return and the payment actually sent based on your 2019 return.

@kittykat
I called Monday and they said it’s in review and I have 20 more days. I’m hoping I wake up saturday with an update.@athena
If I’m right they’ll send it to you. My husband sent me something saying they’ll go off 2019 if they don’t have your 2020. -

Now I know that’s a loaded question considering they don’t seem to have their ish together, lol, but I’m thinking they link the stimulus to the SSN. Since he filed and got his refund in 2020, it should go to him and be deducted off my 2019 refund right? I just don’t want to owe the IRS anything, at any point, ever. lol

Similar question here. I claimed my 17 yr old son on my 2019 taxes. For 2020, he filed on his own and received his refund. My 2020 taxes are N/A and “still being processed”. Is it safe to think that the IRS will locate my son’s stimulus on his own and not pay it to me?

I was curious myself and googled it. However if they go by 2019 they will over pay me because I claimed my son who dad claims for 2020 we alternate. Plus I claimed my fiancee in 2019. He claimed himself 2020 so he could get stimulus. What happens if they over pay me?

The Internal Revenue Service will use information, including your income, from your 2019 return to calculate the next Economic Impact Payment, if your 2020 tax return isn’t filed and processed by the time the IRS starts issuing the third stimulus payments.3
