This is my first time filing taxes in IL. I still have an out of state license, so I wasn’t able to eFile, but I did elect for direct deposit. I mailed in my tax forms.
I finally received my letter in the mail asking to verify identity. I was able to do that online today (3/7/24).
My question – how long does ID verify usually take (I know it says up to 120 days), and will I receive a paper check instead because I had to verify?

Mytax turned to zeros on Friday 2/23. Wmr updated to processed today and comptroller said processed as well. Money just came. So only took a few hours. Good luck y’all!

@sarah once it zeros out they sent the money to the state comptrollers office where they are dd to you usually takes about 3 days after it zeros out. You’ll have your money by Friday I believe.

I think people are mixing up federal and state tax. The federal will show you an 846 code but there’s no transcript for Illinois.

People keep saying they see a refund amount for Illinois and then it turns green and turns to 0 meaning the refund is issued. Where are you seeing this? Federal yes , but I’ve never see ln a site that shows this for state.

Zeroed out means on your my tax account where it says balance, it’ll be zeros instead of the amount owed to you. Mine still says my amount in green, which means mine hasn’t been processed yet. Once it’s done, it’ll be zeros instead of your return amount.

My refund was processed on Jan 30, funds were sitting green in parentheses until Feb 5. Now its 0.00 and says processed but no DDD, just the still processing message.

Make sure you check IL comptroller to see if they released it sometimes it will show up in your account before comptrollers website.

These are my dates for the last 4 years. Will give everyone an idea on about when to expect. I always file before IRS opening day and accepted by Illinois opening day.
On 2/25/2022 for year 2021.On 3/19/2021 for year 2020.
On 2/21/2020 for year 2019.
On 2/22/2019 for year 2018.

Don’t forget Illinois hold your refund for 4 weeks before they release it. They claim it is for security purposes against scams. Don’t expect any refunds before the week of February 24th. If lucky they may take only 3 weeks instead of four..

When checking WMR status it says it hasn’t been received from Illinois Department of Revenue (hasn’t been processed yet for release).Hopefully balance will change to 0 soon and this refund will be released prior to PATH being lifted (fingers crossed!)

Looks like nobody really updates their status on here . Well for those who do come around and read my tax Illinois is still showing my credits at zero . Looking at my past Illinois deposit dates on the states comptroller website last 4 years deposits have been on either a Tuesday or a Thursday for me . All of those deposits happened a week after mytaxillinois showed my refund in green then dropping to zero. This years went to zero on the 5th bet I’ll get a deposit this week.

I filed 1/31 using turbo tax . TT states Illinois accepted it on the 14th of feb. My tax Illinois website has it processed on 2/13 on the period activity section. Not sure how that works since TT says they accepted it the 14th but I’ll take it. I’ve been able to see my balance in green for about a week and a half and yesterday morning around 6am my balance went to zero.

As of today my refund balance on my tax Illinois is still at zero after it updated . Just waiting for the deposit now usually for me it’s deposited usually 3 days after the balance drops to zero. Illinois accepted return on 2/14 week after that my refund amount was processing on my tax Illinois it’s moving just a bit slower.

Filled the 11th of feb, accepted the 14h. My tax Illinois showed accepted on wmr a couple days after the 12. I’ve been able to seen my refund amount in green this whole time , they haven’t dropped to zero.I’m expecting it to drop to zero sometime this week with a ddd soon after that .

I filed with HRBlock end of Jan and Illinois was accepted 2/14. Finally today (3/1) WMT showed they have my tax return. When I log into my Illinois account it shows the correct amount to be refunded. Unfortunately it gives no indication of when that cash will be deposited.

@Sarah- I originally filed with Turbotax and they claimed i state return was accepted on the 13th. After 6 days of no record found I called IDOR, still nothing. I re-filed on MyTax Illinois, got a confirmation number immediately, and literally the next day, which was a Saturday, I checked WMR and it said my return was received and processing. I already received my federal refund. I requested a refund of state e-file fee ($20) from TT.

The state asked for my AGI before sending my refund… I got a letter back, that I think said they owed me my refund. I am still waiting. I have already got my Indiana and Federal back…. no issues. This must be their “extra security measures” . Where’s my refund obviously doesn’t get updated.

State of Illinois is broke probably checking change in couch cushions to send out tax refunds. Website says they are taking extra antifraud precautions. I filed my Illinois taxes on Feb. 4th, my tax online service said it was accepted by illinois. Everytime i go to check, it says, we have not processed your refund yet. Funny, whenever I owe them, they will take out the money from my account within the same day of filing but when they owe us, we have to wait. I can’t wait til the day comes that i leave illinois and take my retirement i earned here and spend it in another state.

I just checked both sites for Illinois, and they say my return has been processed. The Comptroller site said they received it on 2/25, and I should receive the funds in my account within a day. My Credit Union takes their sweet time updating info in the mornings, so I don’t know if it actually hit today or not.
(I filed on 1/31, and have both EIC and child tax credits.)

I filled my taxes Jan 21st and accepted. I got a notice regarding my withholdings that they couldn’t verify so I had to send in on mytax Illinois website the proof of my w-2 and letter from my employer to show my withholdings and its been 2 weeks already. It was over $3,000 withholdings but they changed it to 0.00 cause they couldn’t verify supposedly. Any idea how long does this process take to get my refund?

When green goes to zero..usually at midnight that night or day after comptroller site updates ( 0 means that’s when Illinois sends it to them) and after that it gets sent to your bank

Yeah mines been excepted for about 20 days now. I would assume it would hit anytime soon. I wish the WMR and comptroller sites were a little more detailed. Instead of just saying not yet processed it should have a estimated date so that people aren’t as anxious. Last year I got my February 22.

The lady said earlier when i called that when it goes to 0 that means it was processed and sent to the comptroller. It takes a day or so for them to receive then a day or so for them to send to you then after that depends on your financial institution for deposit.

Yes!! I just got my state refund =) also from what I remember and looking at my past deposits from my past refunds I got my tax refund always 2 days after my state refund.. so it looks like a deposit for Friday the 21st this year from the IRS =) (I’m also a pather)

Id verification letter from IDOR showed up today ,had to go on mytaxillinois and send them a copy of my w2 and a cooy of my federal return so they can verify my AGI.Sucks ive never had to do this before, letter recommend i respond through mytaxillinois to avoid delays .so i did that didnt want to mail anything and it take forever,has anyone been through this,will it set ne back a couple weeks….

My state never updates until after path goes through no matter how early I submit mine. we had quite a few update last year before those of us stuck on path so I assume Illinois does not process until after federal.

Mine typically comes around Feb 20-27. I would assume if you filed and accepted by January 30th it should arrive sometime next week maybe Wednesday-Friday. I check WMR and Comptroller site and both say processing. I am lost when people say that they are in a website that shows the money or it’s green or red. That is confusing to me. Mike oh ok. What does it say when you check the state comptroller? Mine changed from yesterday it is not showing me the prior years refund dates. @Oliver I filed on the 20th was accepted on the 27th when they opened one week later went to green money. Today at the time I posted I think it was around 3 am CST and green was gone. This happened last year and I had my cash on that Friday I believe. Still on WMR showing still processing but I go on what my tax says and it’s gone so I’m done processing like last year I’m assuming.

Actually I checked again and last years state refund was deposited on feb 20 for me. Looking back a handful of people posted they got theirs in the 20th last year as well. Hopefully we get it around the same day.

Received a letter today that said we must verify our identity. I had to go online and take a quiz. Says it’s to ensure they issue the refund to the correct Person. And that once it’s passed they will continue with normal processing. I filed on 2/1. Accepted the same day. Passed the quiz. So now we wait again. 🙄

We recieved a return correction notice in March and I sent this back with the necessary documents needed via fax. I called a several weeks later and the lady at the comptroller office said that they were currently working on correction notices from February. So this was in April and now we are going into August and I am still getting the notice saying that our return has not been processed yet. I can’t believe how long it is taking. The IL where’s my refund is showing my refund should be mailed within 10 business days. Comptroller site says it will be DD within a couple business days. I did set up for DD. Which site is right?

This group provided me with some helpful information, so I wanted to contribute our own info in case it helps anyone.
We filed and were accepted 2/18/19 via the Illinois revenue website. The where my refund page said that our refund was being processed for the last 6+ weeks. Finally, yesterday (Weds) the message changed to “your refund has berm processed but no date has been given for your refund.” It also said that a chance had been made and that we were sent a letter. I was worried that the letter meant we’d have to provide additional information. We don’t have a my tax Illinois account so we couldn’t see the letter. The comptroller page said that the refund had not been processed.
Our refund was deposited on our bluebird card at 4:21 CST this afternoon, Thursday. Both the where’s my refund page and the comptroller page still aren’t updated. Also, we signed up for text and email notifications from the comptroller but received neither. So it was kind of a happy surprise after waiting all this time. Also our refund was about $100 more than we expected so I’m guessing that is what the letter was about.
I hope this makes someone feel more informed. Thank you to everyone for posting here, as your information made me feel as if I could be somewhat confident that our refund was finally arriving, and I’m glad I was right.

Sam–yes I got a notice too. For me, they couldn’t verify my property tax credit even though I’ve been claiming it for seven years now. Figure about a week from when the letter is dated, you will get it. Make sure you make copy of letter and send back any information they are asking for. I sent information certified mail return receipt the day I got it. No response yet

It just updated this morning for me. But I noticed the other day it was processed on the Illinois tax website but not on comptroller site. I’ve been checking the comptroller site and that hasn’t been very accurate up until this morning when it updated but now Illinois tax website isn’t updated lol. Gotta love confusion. My federal got resequenced.. I was a 1/14 filer and had 9001 code for weeks.. Then updated to path for a week.. Path fell off now I’m stuck with being processed lol. I’m looking for my update Friday into Saturday. Just happy I finally got state! Taking family out to dinner and smoothies tonight 😊

Hey yall. So I just went to the IL comptroller website. You can search to see if your refund has been processed, & have the option to leave your phone number & email address for them to contact you once it’s been processed. Mine hasn’t been processed yet.

Congrats to the folks that are done processing! The comptroller cuts the check within a few days. (That’s the fastest step along the way the last 5 years.)

Okay the website said “What does it mean when “Where’s My Refund?” says that a date for my refund has not been determined?
Once your refund is approved, we release the information to the Comptroller to issue your refund. The Comptroller then releases detailed information back to us about your refund. Until we receive information back from the Comptroller, we are unable to provide you a date for your refund. Once we receive the information, Where’s My Refund? will update with more details. This process usually takes between 24 and 48 hours.

I read somewhere where they said it would take around 4 weeks for them to process the electronic returns. If that is accurate, I still have another week, give or take. They show that it was accepted on 1/22 but they didn’t actually start processing them until 1/28 I believe. So the end of this week will be the 3rd week for me. No movement yet. When I log in, my amount is there in green, so that’s probably good. Waiting for it to turn to a zero. *drumming fingernails on the table.
Come on Illinois, get with the program.

@nonstopI had to request a Letter ID on 2/7. Received it today 2/11. Logged in and it’s green. SO that came some piece of mind. Just waiting now.

Oh man….someone on igmr Facebook page on the state return post just said they received their illinois refund and got a deposit today… hope its real and they arent making it up they said they had credits filed the 25 accepted the 29th and their deposit hit today..if true ,then were seeing some movement.

E-filed our taxes on 1-28 it was accepted on 1-29 received our refund in our bank yesterday, 1-8-19. We filed with credits and somehow our refund was dramatically smaller than turbo tax had concluded. We are supposed to be receiving something in the mail explaining this. I’m confused as we don’t owe money. It’s also weird we got it back this fast. I’m hoping this is just an error ( I wouldn’t be shocked, this is illinois) because we’ve never gotten back State before Federal.

Someone on igmr page just said in the state refund post they just received their illinois return.she said she filed 1/25 accepted 1/29 with credits.and got a deposit today!.hope shes telling the truth .If she is, we’re seeing some movement.

I was accepted 1/29 and still have the “we have received and are currently processing your return” message. Last year we were accepted 2/2 and got our deposit on 2/27. Fingers crossed they get moving!

I completed my Federal taxes and already received my refund from them. I filed the Illinois taxes and received a letter titled ”Return” Correction Notice” and they are only looking for explanation on my Self Employment Calculations.
Brief note. I made money in Self Employment in 2017 and about 2/3 of that amount I either have 1099’s , track records or both. The other, was paid through various gift cards, which is paid through a 3rd party survey which is most of my income stems from. Multiple online survey companies. When I take a survey and it directs me to a third party for a at home use product, and many Focus Groups Studies. per say, and in return I fill out a survey and at the end a code pops up to claim a GC of choice usually around 10-25.00 each time, no emails, just a thank you and quick print. How do I put this other 1/3 down on the Notice to return other than explaining it to them as I am with you.?

Some of you people are really dumb… If your refund says it’s been processed then you know you’re getting your direct deposit soon. NOBODY knows when you’ll get your direct deposit. Be glad your refund got processed and stop asking dumb questions. For example, when my refund says processed, I then am NOT going to post a question asking how long after processed am I going to receive my direct deposit. It’s coming, you know it’s coming, it said processed.

Checked my bank account about 3, when my bank posts deposits for the next day, and my state refund is pending for deposit for tomorrow Friday March 2.
When I checked the Illinois Where’s My Refund I get the same message I have since yestersay:

My refund is no longer showing on my mytax account and Illinois WMR now shows that my return has been processed and a date for my refund has not been provided yet. Normally just takes a few days for it to be disbursed from this point.

@coiledvipers: I’m guessing they don’t have the money to refund them so they are waiting for the other people to start paying taxes to give us our money… the feds can process millions in a few hours and check for fraud but the state takes a month :\ good luck

Nothing here yet, accepted on the 30th. According to them I should expect 28 days for returns to be processed and refunds to be sent out. This is due to the lengthy processed of protecting me from fraud.

On the refund tool for Illinois, it states that they made a change to my return and sent a letter, and that if I have any questions after reading the letter to call. Anyone else gotten a similar message? I still haven’t received the letter, though they claim it was sent early last week. It’s weird because my federal was approved and fine, and I’ve never been sent letters before. I’m wondering what this means, did they reduce my state refund? Need more info? It’s frustrating the not knowing.

Yes, I copied and pasted the message from my email directly, not sure why it says 2016? I never received a text either, which was what I originally signed up for. Is there any way that I can post a screen shot here to show you? Last year, I owed because my employer screwed up my state taxes, so I never needed to track it last year.
I received it, for sure. I paid my mortgage and took my family out to dinner last night.

Do you have an account at https://mytax.illinois.gov that is where you can login and see everything and download old returns. Once the balance on there goes to zero the deposit is on the way.

@MiMi I have seen them update once at noon on a Tuesday with Friday Deposit. I have also seen them update on Monday morning so its Illinois who knows with them they so broke anyways. They have to earn intrest on our cash.

According to a post on the revenue.il.us site it says that refunds will be issued 4 weeks from the day the return was accepted. We still have a few weeks if that’s the case since they didn’t start accepting them until the 29th :(

Yes got mine on February 16th last year a day early because of my deposit method, but my official deposit date was February 17th. I will expect nothing before Feb 23rd since they started a week later this year, and that is if they do 3 weeks like last year instead of the whole 4 weeks they say it takes to do the fraud checks. I would almost bet that I get the state and federal on the same day this year. Got federal on the 23rd last year.

I also got my state refund a day or so sooner than the fed and this year is tricky becasuse who’s to say like the government they will have the money to pay us back considering how “broke” they are. I think thats a bunch of crap they took it with no problem but it sure seems like it is going to be a problem to pay back state and fed!

Don’t expect anything for 3 to 4 weeks from date accepted. Illinois already said they will hold for 4 weeks to prevent fraud. I was one of the first to get a refund last year. 3 weeks and 2 days exactly. Be sure to sign up with the Comptroller and they will text and email you when they get your refund.

Last year it did take 3 weeks for the refunds to be issued but this year there is a budget so I am hoping we see it towards the end of next week. Where’s my refund said processing for the last week but when I logged into my account it said processed and showed my credit balance. Today for the first time said processed but no date has been given. :(

Holy crap! Got my Illinois refund this morning, was not expecting it until March sometime, yay!

Mytax website is showing it is done being processed and my negative balance. The refund tracker shows still being processed. So basically just waiting on Illinois to decide to send out my money.

That’s amazing Tam, Illinois comptrollers office says no refunds have been issued yet and that some returns may finish processing this week but more than likely not until next week. We should check the website periodically to see if our returns have completed processing yet.

None EIC filers already received their refund. My husband filed the week of January 16 and got his back Saturday at midnight.

Anyone hearing anything yet, My mytaxillinois account says mine was processed the 23rd and shows my refund amount due on my account but doesn’t say anything about when it will be issued. Some stuff on the comptroller website has been updated while others haven’t been. The non updated stuff says March 1st for beginning of refunds while other stuff says beginning of February for refunds :D Illinois is such a joke sometimes!!

Am I the only person still waiting for my Illinois refund? I filed on 2/4/16. I filed my wife’s on 3/2/16. I know that they didn’t start releasing refunds until 3/1/16. When I log in through MyTax IL, I can see that my wife’s has already been processed. Mine has not. The refund status site and the comptroller’s site just show that they are being processed. I hate not knowing.

I know they are starting late, but on the site it says to please wait seven days for the return to show. It has been seven days and my return hasn’t even been acknowledged. Do I just sit and wait, or should I start inquiring?

Ok so my sister filed the same day i filed my husbands her state was accepted on turbo tax and i did his through taxact. his is still pending. did it on the 2nd of february. Now my dad’s we did his on the 20th of January and his is still pending also. Should I go through it again and see if i did something wrong or what??

UPDATE! They still haven’t received it, it is still showing as pending on Tax Act, and I can’t figure out where to go on the Tax Act site to complain. Maybe I just need more coffee.

Well looks like Illinois is starting to accept state returns. When I check my status now, it says “Your current year’s return is not showing on our computer files. If you filed electronically, please allow up to 7 days from the date you transmitted your return for it to appear on our computer files. If you mailed your return, please allow up to ten weeks from the date you mailed your return for it to appear on our computer files.” Should I wait and give it a few more days to update possible to re-submit?

@Annie. Exactly. Did the responsible thing and filed my state and federal on 1/25. Not early or on the first day of filing, and yet I and so many others are still getting screwed!

On the site’s main page there’s a disclaimer that states they’re accepting e-filed tax returns yet. *sighs*
