So this is not directly related to the federal returns, but I am stuck on IS being processed claiming the EIC. Transcripts have the good codes and credit account balance, but no 846.

So I decided to check my state of Colorado refund and it is being offset and being paid to a local community college. My wife already had a bachelors degree and was taking some prerequisites to start a nursing program when we/the school found out that she was disqualified from financial aid due to already having a degree. They reversed everything and this fall had to pay a $3,000 dollar tuition bill with a quick hard deadline we couldn’t meet.

Anyways I think this is a good sign for everyone that is worried. You should get your refund soon if Colorado already gave mine away. I accessed the letter they sent online and it is date February 20th. Usually the Colorado refund comes a week or two after the federal.

My point is there is for sure probably nothing wrong with your return, so don’t worry. As everyone is saying it is just not been selected for a refund as of yet.

State run school debt is only collected by the state. The Federal government only deals with student loans from the government, child support and backed taxes or taxes owed.

@ams78 Thank you. That is what I was thinking. Im assuming not paying your federal student loans is what would lead to having your federal refund offset.

@Cody, I had a similar situation and only my state was offset because technically the school would have been a state issue and not federal. It seems that the reversal of funds would have left you owing the school, not the government.

Still owe the rest…I wonder if they will offset from the federal refund also? If they do hopefully they take into consideration the amount that was already applied from Colorado.

Not mad at all as we planned on paying this anyways. This is actually good news because I was scared something was wrong with my previous year return or something causing the IS processing message.
