I called the IRS today and finally got someone on the phone. She said I am being reviewed because I claimed the EIC, even though I have gotten EIC the last 10+ years with no problems. She also told me that a form is scheduled to be mailed to me IN THREE WEEKS!!! My return was accepted a week ago, and I got the Notice 151 a few days ago. Apparently, they need three weeks to send out a letter asking me for more info, even thought the state sent an email requesting more info the day after I filed. I was able to email the info requested, and already received my state refund. The state is certainly WAY more streamlined. I mean, how hard is it to just request the information instead of having to hire people to answer phone calls from disgruntled tax filers, and more people to draft letters requesting information…and spending on postage to send those letters out. Seriously. A bunch of buffoons running that agency.

I got that too.
I believe it will be a matter of verifying dependents and children you claim EIC on.
I looked over my tax papers from TT – the dependent section was not filled out completely for verifying my son (16) as qualifying but it looks like my daughter who is 20 – in school – but is high functioning spectrum disorder was claimed as a qualifying child. I didn’t claim her last year – and did not intend to this year. I have ONE qualifying child and got one credit. So it’s just a matter of fixing the mistake.
I wouldn’t be too worried – but I do totally get the problem with having to wait on your refund. I think a lot of us early filers file early because we need that financial boost.

i think the 151 can be for multiple different reasons… i just asked about eicand if its your own kids because if its someone elses kids thats more of a reason to flag the return… especially this year with all the delay in eic returns to prevent fraud.

the irs will probably reuest proof those dependents lived with u half the year.
if u owe the irs or state money they would just deduct it from ur return.

Is that typically the code generated for proving dependents live with you…I’ve had all of them all year an was only provider and have paycheck stubs and bills to prove it. There schools have this address on file for them as do doctors

did u claim ur own children for the eic? are u married to their mother and filing jointly? can someone else claim the kids?
my guess it had something to do with verifying the kid(s) lived with you for more than half the year.
if u owe the state they arent going to ask for ur approval to take ur money. theyll just take it.

I did claim eicand CTC..But I called the bureau of fiscal services and the automated system said I have a state tax Dept owed. Would that have caused the code maybe to give me a chance to OK the Dept or appeal it
