Where’s My Refund Tool is scheduled to be available when the floodgates open for taxpayers to e-file on January 30th. Last year, we closely watched when the tool was working and when it wasn’t because it seemed to have a downtime pattern. The IRS has posted information about the WMR tool’s availability this year.
Availability of “Where’s My Refund?”
According to the IRS, “Where’s My Refund?” is available almost all of the time. However, scheduled downtime is as follows:
- Not available every Monday from 12:00 am (Midnight) to 3:00 am Eastern Time.
- Also, occasionally our system may be unavailable on Sundays between 1:00 am and 7:00 am Eastern Time
As in prior years, you will need the following information to check the status of your 2013 tax return:
When to Check the WMR
Within 24 hours after we’ve received your e-filed tax return, or;
4 weeks after you mail your paper return
When to Check the WMR
- Social Security Number
- Filing status
- Exact refund amount
