Each transcript has a different purpose. The “return” transcript and the “account” transcript are the most common two. The “return” transcript is usually an almost exact copy of your filed tax return, whereas the “account” transcript will have transaction codes that indicate activity on your account. The codes on an account transcript is how to get more information about your tax refund. Ordering transcripts by mail is not a reliable way to find out if you are done processing or to see if a DDD is in your near future.
