Filed 1/24, accepted same day
EITC, ACTC, SSDI + wagesIRS opened 1/27
PATHers started processing 2/15
Most PATHers get their refund this week (2/26)I called and I’m under random 60-day review. I absolutely cannot afford that; does anyone have any more info? I’ve called Taxpayer Advocacy and I’m waiting to hear back.

I get different stories from different people at the irs, the last lady I spoke with said she couldn’t tell me when. The review started just that if I don’t get a letter or a refund by March 5th call back

I heard a rumor that there was an internal service error that affected several returns. Who knows. I just wish they’d hurry up and review mine and release mine so I could get my son and myself what we need.
But on the positive, the longer it takes, the longer I will have money, I suppose?
Want to invest most of it anyway.

A lot of people who called early to mid February for a question or checking status said they were told their refund was in error status, they couldn’t pull up their information and to call back later and when they called back they were under review it makes me wonder if this was a tech issue.
-
February 27, 2020 at 7:03 am #4384236
Yeah I read they select a small percentage of early and late filers randomly for review every year. There are a ton of us this year though and Ive been told 3 different reasons why I was selected mostly just fancy ways of “I don’t know” lol. The IRS could avoid a lot of headache by releasing a statement on their website.
-

I talked to my friend who is a CSR at the IRS and she said that the 60 day review is randomly selected and they select from the early filers. She said they do it every year. She told me they dont have any more information to give the taxpayer other than to just wait it out and check WMR for updates. She also said that it may not even take the full 60 days so that’s reassuring I guess!!
This is my first time ever being under review and I’m pissed. Same job, same dependants, same address! -

Currently under 60 day review. I used jackson Hewitt and filed 2/2/20. No letter. I talked to the IRS on 2/23 and they told me I was randomly selected for a 60 day review, no action necessary from taxpayer (me) but to just review my tax return for accuracy. He said if I dont hear nothing by 4/23 then to call back. Its bullshit!!
-
February 27, 2020 at 1:06 am #4383904
Oh and if you didn’t file last year or your refund is much bigger than last years…they flag it apparently.
-
February 27, 2020 at 1:05 am #4383902
The only thing I can think of is that the SSA and IRS aren’t matching, my employer hasn’t filed yet, or it’s because I claimed EITC. If it was ID verify, they would’ve told me that over the phone.
On the other end of the spectrum, this is a very abnormal number of people being pulled for review and it could just be them stalling. -
February 26, 2020 at 11:18 pm #4383717RochelleGiana
There is no such thing as, “random review,” you could have made a large deposit early on in the year that got reported, someone could be claiming your kids, you claimed to many credits, income that’s unreported under your social or the numbers on your tax return are suspicious compared to the nations average the list goes on. Remember there aint no random reviews.

Filed & accepted on 2/5 w/ both credits. Had bars & “being processed” until last week. Then bars gone and STILL being processed & TT152. Called today, system wasn’t showing much info, just that mine is still being processed. Asked about being reviewed, no just still processing. CSR mentioned she’s noticed ALOT more returns w/ credits are being reviewed this year. Hope this helps…good luck everyone!

I am under a 60 day review. I called the IRS on Monday and the woman I spoke with said that she can see my refund on my return and it is scheduled to be released on 3/1. My question is if I’m under review would my refund show on my return yet or only when the review is completely processed?
-
February 26, 2020 at 9:53 pm #4383584
@MattB mine has been under review since 2/10 apparently they send the letter within 30 days of it being transcribed 🙄. I liked how they are using “looked at” with you they must’ve had a meeting to come up with adjectives for review lol. I wish you luck my hope is since there are so many of us it won’t take as long as they say…I know I’m a dreamer.
-
February 26, 2020 at 8:56 pm #4383467MattB
I was told last monday i was being “looked at” since 2/14 you’ll get a letter i decide today to call and see whats up since i still have yet to get this letter km being audited for my credits you’ll get a letter…. ok its been awhile wheres my letter
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:36 pm #4383275
Been waiting since 2/3 for them to send a letter. 2/3 is apparently when my refund went to error status aka under review. It’s BS. It’s the 26th and all the IRS Tells me is “sorry we have no info for you call back on March 30th”
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:07 pm #4383199Tiffany
I don’t believe that they magically sent letters to everyone on the 20th. Something ain’t adding up here.
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:06 pm #4383044
Actually it’s really not comforting knowing that they hire temps to be CSRs for the IRS during tax season. I don’t really want every Tom, Dick, and Harry knowing all of my info from birth…
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:13 pm #4383082
My status says” still processing, dd will be made available when ready. Called and they said under review letter went out on 2/20. Nothing in the mail yet and status still states the same topic 152.
-
February 26, 2020 at 5:45 pm #4383024
When I look at my transcript it says “return not present at this time”. It looks like they haven’t even received my return even though it was submitted and accepted on 1/27. I called twice and the 1st rep said they needed wage verification and a letter was mailed out on 2/20. The second rep said it was a random review, no stated issue because no letter was mailed out to me. I’m going to call tomorrow and see what story they have for me.
-
February 26, 2020 at 5:29 pm #4382984
@PinkPanther that’s more info than I got. They won’t tell me why I’m under review.
-
February 26, 2020 at 5:25 pm #4382967PinkPather
Then of course I got the 5-7 minute hold. They said wages weren’t reported by employer. SSA said the same thing and my employer faxed them docs to local office this morning and I faxed my w2 yesterday afternoon.
-
February 26, 2020 at 5:24 pm #4382963PinkPather
I only had to give refund amount date of birth and social
-
February 26, 2020 at 4:52 pm #4382879Bdtgtx
@ Elca I heard they are just temp. people just hired to answer the phone and give you very basic answers to your questions.
And to put you on 5-7 minute holds, of course! :)
-
February 26, 2020 at 4:47 pm #4382867
@Elca that’s funny lol…Ask them if they are under review too lol 😂
-
February 26, 2020 at 4:46 pm #4382866
Lol! Yeah I doubt they are even checking. They keep telling me I’m under review and to just wait. Like really? You can’t see any more info?
-
February 26, 2020 at 4:42 pm #4382856Bdtgtx
So funny. I talked to a guy and he put me on four 5-7 minute holds.
He was like “I’m going to put you on a 5-7 minute hold to research your case” He did that four times :/
Just to tell me not much more than the irs2go app told me.

@Elca
Lol anytime I would ask them any questions I would be put on a 5-7 minute hold…next time I’ll ask them the weather or there favorite color and see if the hold time is the same 🤔.

Yep I’ve tried to hint around to what it’s about to and they always say “it’s possible.” The customer service reps obviously don’t know and that 5-7 minute hold is probably them just playing solitaire on the computer lol. I would hate that job being yelled at all day long and not knowing what to say because my guess is they as little as we do just how to pull up transcribed and check wmr.
-
February 26, 2020 at 1:30 pm #4382306
Yup! I asked “is it because I claimed EITC?” and the IRS rep I talked to this morning told me, “Well…that could very well be.” *snort*
This is so messed up. I hate being lied to especially about my own money. -
February 26, 2020 at 12:09 pm #4382053
Talk to IRS rep today and asked about the rumor that these letters/reviews were because ACTC/EITC only and that many people were going to get dates next week. While she wouldn’t overtly say, “yeah, they’re buying time,” she said “yes, reviewing these credits take time and we have to review them.”
-
February 26, 2020 at 8:33 am #4381182
Definitely agree there is something up, a friend of mine said there is something on Facebook (I don’t have Facebook) that has a poll with 20K people and counting that are under review, think of the people that aren’t on Facebook that are under review too…I personally think they screwed up something and this review thing is to cover their butts.
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:52 am #4381043lcolson
Something is definitely up even people that have DDD 2/26 still have not received their money. Sounds very fishy what is going on.
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:42 am #4380953Justin
I think it also had something to do with the Coronavirus. I think the government is holding our money to prevent us poor people from leaving our quarantined areas when the virus hits
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:38 am #4380979
I’m under review too… IRS rep said the 60 days is a generic timeframe that as long as there is nothing wrong and we respond to any inquiries that come up it may go quicker. I’m code 570 randomly plucked review they are looking over my credits… the same credits I’ve claimed for 6 years 🙄. Doing some research on these random reviews…they do target the poor and early and late filers… especially those claiming both credits.
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:28 am #4380944
I can totally see that @Chloe. Just talked to an IRS rep and after answering a bunch of questions, she put me on a brief hold and then came back STUTTERING saying that it’s under review. There is definitely something up. I asked if it was ID verify or maybe my employer messed up…nope! Just wait the 60 days. I’m so frustrated and upset that they target the poor that actually need the money! They can’t even tell me what’s “wrong” with my refund. Smh.
-
February 26, 2020 at 7:19 am #4380892
@Elca the theory in the story was that they have fewer experts at IRS now and they need the experts for reviews or audits of the rich people’s returns. But I think it runs deeper and is an agenda against poor, minorities, and women
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:34 am #4380716Nutter
Ah..yeah that kinda sucks
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:31 am #4380700
@Nutter
I don’t have kids and only claim myself. I’ve always claimed EITC and never had an issue except for this year. I would understand if something was new with my return, but it’s all the same. Seems like a stall tactic. -
February 26, 2020 at 6:28 am #4380684Nutter
More likely to be reviewed if the CTC and such are new. i was reviewed the first time i clamed all the kids. And havent been since then
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:27 am #4380675
It’s BS that we have to wait until mid February to get our money and yet…we still don’t have our money. We are being punished for being poor.
Thank you @Chloe
It makes sense that they target low income people/families. Why would they go after the rich, corrupt people? I just can’t with this. -
February 26, 2020 at 6:11 am #4380604
And btw I saw a news story that they’re reviewing more low income people and fewer high income people these days because it’s easier to do.
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:09 am #4380596
And yes, it sucks. I’m a single mom to my toddler son Link. I’ve been getting no hours at work. I really really depended on the money. Was really planning to use it to get us going. Right now I cant even by containers to organize his toys
-
February 26, 2020 at 6:09 am #4380594
Supposedly many who claimed both actc and eic are being reviewed. And supposedly if you’re due it, you’ll probably get it next week. I was told to wait until this Friday to call. And believe me, I’m calling, unless I miraculously get a deposit or DDD by then.
-
February 26, 2020 at 12:52 am #4379825
Filed 2/3 with HR Block
Accepted same day
Got 4464c letter on 2/14
WMR says “still being processed” with Tax Topic code 152
I filed for EITC too.
Seems odd that a lot of the people who claimed EITC are “under review”.
The taxpayer advocate is helpful, but they said to wait until after 3/9 to call them, so they can help.
I called the IRS last week and they told me it was a “random review” and to just wait the 60 days. Are they kidding me? -

February 25, 2020 at 5:55 pm #4378161JazzThee
Did the IRS tell you they sent the letter out on the 20th? Because I haven’t gotten any letter from them… HRblock keeps telling me 2/26 will be the day their fees are paid to them.. So I’m really confused about what’s going on.. Why are so many of us under review and haven’t gotten a letter or anything. I have no Errors, no offsets and no refund on the way apparently.
-
February 25, 2020 at 5:18 pm #4378041
Have you contacted A tax advocate?
-
February 25, 2020 at 5:05 pm #4377986
Under review and the IRS basically said there’s nothing I can do. Haven’t gotten a letter
