Hello!
So many of us are stuck on processing, hace received notices, or are just sitting with a 570 code.
Have any of you reached out to a Tax Advocate, and if you have, what has your experience and outcome been?
Thank you for sharing.

There is suffering because of the 2% who screwed the pooch, the incremental changes they make and they length of times it takes them to make them, all of the systems flaws, and the challenges of getting money from a system who isn’t necessarily set up to give it as much as it is to receive it..

Our societal systems are allowed to implement painstakingly long processes and policies that we will perceive as unreasonable so that they are able to save the said systems the money they have documented as being “lost“ as a result of all of the past dishonesty that has occurred with filed returns. So, our rights, in many ways are not considered to be as significant as perhaps they once were, and our needs are most certainly secondary..

What do you consider a hardship, because hardship should be defined as being deprived of the normal basic necessities? The nerve of tax advocates telling people to go to charities and a church pantry for food when the IRS is holding up your money. I think they mainly consider evictions and utility disconnections and that’s why they will tell people to go to other places for those necessities. It’s one thing to discriminate against what’s considered, but another thing to have no real results or action plan to stop hardships.

Also *** I am extremely happy for Jeremy and all of the people that updated last week! I know it is hard on those of us who have been and are currently in this situation.

Yes OC (Orange County) is a place I am very familiar with! I am excited for you and your family! I know you all will have a ball! I use to stay nearby and there is plenty to do! I would love to visit Colorado though! Yes, your typos were menial and not problematic in the least! We all make them 😂

What do you guys think about making the IRS pay penalties and fees as a form of restitution to impacted tax payers for not expediting the processing time for hardship cases? I think the pay now review later rule should apply, because they are the IRS and will still be able to get their money if the money doesn’t come out right in the end. The pay now review later helps to relieve tax payers of their hardship. So they should immediately release funds under a hardship criteria.

We have to get rid of the 5 day wait just to get an advocate. The ability to apply for an advocate should be online and via phone. I don’t like the gate process of having to go through the red tape just to get a transfer code in order to speak to someone just to get a referral. Too much time expires which subjects the person to the hardships that they are trying to avoid.

I honestly believe that people impacted by the IRS should contact Congress, because the more people start raising the issue the more Congress will seek to make changes. I mean can you imagine if this happened next year. Who can say what their situation will be next year and we all need to be able to depend on the ability to expedite hardship cases. Why can’t they take a faxed 1040x as well, to expedite the processing time. It seems like a lack of consideration for hardships.

ValerieOK don’t trust that, because in the time waiting to get a tax advocate I was coming closer to having a disconnection and I had it faxed before the advocate called. The advocate called on the day that the disconnection was set to happen and told me straight up they couldn’t do anything about it.

Hi PinkPather!
I haven’t received my refund yet, but I will be here even after I do just to try to encourage people as best as I can. Have you been approved yet? You also just left some very helpful information! I should’ve included that, but I know that these things have been posted numerous times, and want people to use the resources that others have already shared as well. Thank you PinkPather!

this too….most offices have a fax number. Fill it out and fax your info! I personally would include w2 or whatever else you think may help. Instead of waiting on someone to call you back, as we are waiting also for our refunds….I would not wait I would fax, so they have your info on hand.

I hope that someone calls you back very soon! If you can fax a 911 sheet in to your local advocate office, they will respond sooner than 7-10 days. More like 3-5. Much faster that way.
Thank you for sharing!

That is what I gathered as well. Either dire cause/need, or you’ve been waiting an abnormally long period of time..
Thank you for sharing!

I called my local TA today and had to leave a message and now have to wait 7-10 days for them to call me back

Hi DeeDeeLTL
I called the TA hotline when I found out my return was under review and I wouldn’t be getting my refund for 60 days. She basically said she couldn’t help me unless I could fax in proof that I was or about to be evicted or my utilities had or will be turned off. My take is that they can only help if you can prove you have a dire need to get your refund ASAP.

Hi T2471,
I am so sorry to hear that you haven’t had a very good experience with the TA who was assigned to you. I completely agree with the fact that ongoing and consistent communication is extremely important .i hope that they are still able to resolve your issue quickly.
Thank you for sharing your experience.

I don’t know how many people advocates can advocate for all at one time, but knowing that number is interesting. If they have too many people it’s impossible to give each case the attention that it deserves. There should be a direct dial into there desk and not waiting on the line to be called back in 2 days

Doesn’t feel like what an advocate should be. Failing to give updates even if no update is available. Unreliable the phone number mine gave me doesn’t even work. I have to call into the main number and wait 1 to 2 business days for mine to contact me back. They need to reform this whole process to make if work better for tax payers.
