Not a while lot you can do to put it on a rush. Seems like lots of people are getting 1541 notices. You can try a tax advocate, but you would need to prove a hardship. I have been on 1541 for 2 weeks now. You can call, but it seems like the IRS is giving people random answers on why they have the 1541 code. I was told, no freezes, no review, no nothing, just waiting in line to be processed, this was told to me 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting, not sure if I believe them anymore. If you had to ID verify like I did, your original acceptance date for your return is invalid, and your new acceptance date for you return is now the day you ID verified. Unfortunately, rather than place you back in line, in your original spot, since they chose to id verify me, through no fault of my own, someone at the IRS decided that after you are ID verified, you go to the END of the line. Idiotic way to handle things, since the review/id verify is no fault of the taxpayer, yet we are penalized by losing our place in line. Anyway, long story short, not a whole lot you can do to speed up the process.

I had 1541 show up within a week of filing with TT
Filed 1/20, Accepted 1/23, 1541 showed up 1/30Called the IRS with reference code, was redirected to the Holds Freeze division. it was for an incomplete 2013 filling (had strange things with dependent status with myself and parents)
Letter came about 5 days later from IRS stating what to do. I had to resubmit my 1040 for the 2013 year.
1541 is typically saying that they are holding your refund until you resolve past filling issues aka didnt file, filed incorrectly, filed and you owe, etc. The letter will explain exactly what to do and where to send your info to correct it though.

I got this same message! Glad I’m not the only one in the same boat!! :( I’ve been a nervous wreck about this and really find no point in calling yet. I filed and was accepted on the 23rd and then received this message Friday the 31st.

My taxes were accepted on the 19th, and on the same day (the 28th) I got the same thing when checking the status of my return, an image with an exclamation point saying “Take action – Please see below for additional info on your refund.”
then it just says:
There is a delay in processing your tax return.
If you have a question, contact us.Once I click “Contact us” I get;
A copy of this page.
A copy of your tax return.
The Social Security Number, Filing Status, and refund amount claimed on your return.
Any notice that you have received concerning your refund.
Reference number 1541.I was really excited for this refund as it is the most I will have ever received! and I could really use it! I was excited that my job posted my W2 digitally on our HR website and I didn’t have to wait to receive the W2 in the mail to file, So I been eagerly checking this website on the status after TurboTax said it was accepted by the IRS. I never used this refund status tool for the IRS before, usually I just use TT, and a couple of weeks later I have my refund, but now that I have used this tool, and I no longer get the progress bar, but this message. I am super worried.. I got excited about receiving my refund early, because I got it filed earlier than usual, and like I mentioned if there was a time I needed it, it’s now! So it seems I was excited over nothing, as now it’s delayed for some reason, and IRS people where no help when I called, they just said I should get it within 21 days, no reasoning around this delay or nothing more they could tell me!

1541 is a generic number. It does mean something and it shouldn’t get ignored. Below are some of the issues that will result in this reference code popping up.
1. Back taxes owed from federal or state
2. Back due child support
3. Goverment student loans
4. Failure to file any prior years tax return
5. Even eic , earned income credit
6. Addidng a dependant that someone else claimed in prior years
7. Over payment of unemployment compensationIf you recieved this code it was not by accident, however they will say everything is ok yet you will get a letter in the mail. So reference number 1541 is not specific to any one person or issue.
If it is a issue with eic and they want you to prove that in fact you are entitled to it they will request paperwork same as if you claimed a child that someone else claimed in prior years. If this is the case you could expect to see your refund for these two issues take up to 90 days to get corrected.

1541 – Offset Overflow freeze set when offset storage within IDRS is not large enough to hold all generated transactions, or credit balance has been completely offset and two or more debit modules still exist
