Does anyone know what is up with this? Anyone possibly call and get an IRS agent to give any idea why this could be?
In the past I did qualify for EIC. Last year my refund was $XXXX. I filed HOH with 3 children and my income was only xxK. That was a really hard year and the EIC I got really helped us get back on our feet. Not to mention when I got my refund I was about to have another baby! Me and my ex reconciled long enough to do what we do best and then he did what he does best….bails!!!
So, this year I file HOH with 4 children, but thankfully my schooling is starting to pay off a bit and I earn too much to qualify for the money this year. I was a little upset because I barely missed the cut off, but no EIC and no Add Tax Credit either.
This morning I check WMR just for the hell of it and the bar is gone and it has the message about the Path Law and to check back Feb 15.
Has anyone called the IRS and asked about this? Is it a glitch in the system? Are they deciding to give me the EIC out of the kindness of their hearts? Is it because they want to see if my ex has the balls to try to claim our kids on his return even though he makes xxK more than I do not including bonuses and pays me absolutely nothing in child support or spousal support after 21 years of marriage?
I thought it would be best to keep things civil between us for our kids sake. Then we almost get back together which takes my 3 kids I filed last year up to 4 this year. There is no way he would have the nerve to file our kids this year because I can turn our verbal agreement into a formal court ordered agreement at anytime.
I have an entire household to keep running. And he took our only transportation while I must rely on Uber or walk wherever I go. He has promised me his bonus that is coming up soon so we shall see.
The only money the IRS owes me is the money I paid in all year. They also said I qualify for the American opportunity credit so I wonder if they are holding those credits until mid feb too? I wasn’t even planning on filing for the AOC in the first place. I thought I qualified for the tuition and fees deduction. Then taxslayer said they were comparing to credits to see which one was right/best for me and they chose the AOC.
I am perfectly happy with just getting back the money I put in this year. I am not in bad shape like I was last year…thank God. We do need a car though and I have no extra money to buy one until my refund comes through.
If anyone has talked to an IRS agent and is in my situation please let me know what they have had to say. I hate calling them so early on. They never look into anything for me and give me some generic answer.
Thanks
