What is considered "early filing"?

Is “early filing” only those filed before 1/23 or any returns filed in the first weeks of the season? If the EIC hold applies only to early filers, is it only those filed before 1/23?

  They’re not only holding early filers’ refunds (why would they?). They’re holding all refunds that took the EITC. It doesn’t matter when you file.

  Early filing is anything accepted before they officially open on 1/23

  I think so. My bf filed with no EIC and got accepted. I filed with EIC and got the message that it will be processed on 1/23
