I filed my taxes today (H&R block online). And I fear that I’ve already messed up… I used my brothers routing & account # to receive my dd. I’ve read that this is a automatic no no? I’ve read it will go through… I’ve read that it won’t. He uses an American Express from walmart. He’s had it for several years and I think that is the card I used last year but I’m unsure! Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance. Definitely not my brightest moment.

Taken from the IRS’ website:
Providers must accept any Direct Deposit election to qualified accounts in the taxpayer’s name at any eligible financial institution designated by the taxpayer. Qualified accounts include savings, checking, share draft or consumer asset accounts (for example, IRA or money market accounts). Taxpayers should not request a deposit of their refund to an account that is not in their own name (such as their tax preparer’s own account). The taxpayer may not designate refunds for Direct Deposit to credit card accounts.

The account doesn’t have your name on it, so your refund will not be deposited to it. They will instead mail a check to the address you filed under. It will result in a *slight* delay, but nothing major.

I have heard that the account must have your name on it in order for a dd to be made to it. I am not quite sure about prepaid cards though. Perhaps he could call and get another card with your name on it under that same account? Are you still able to go in and make changes before HR Block submits it? I can in freetaxusa.
