And SSA reports earnings to IRS as well

It is reliable if you only have selfemployment

There SSA site doesn’t have to update for your refund to be processed. This info is available online or by calling social security, the IRS is who reports our earnings to SSA and they have 3 years to do this. I definitely recieved a refund last year and I still have no earnings reported for 2018. I know we’re all looking for signs that our return is moving forward but this SSA checking is not a reliable source.

                          I filed 1/30
Went to still being processed 2/15
Got the 4464c review letter and 60 day speech when I called the irs
Wages finally updated on ssa and I got a ddd the following week. So I’m thinking it’s pretty important and a good sign these days.

It’s definitely a good sign but it used to mean if u were selfemployed and it is on there then ur return is being processed. This year seems to be different.

@Roy, while this wasn’t applicable to my situation, following is what I’ve gathered from perusing this site.

Some filers are getting the 570 TC because their reported wages don’t match up with what they had on their returns. So the IRS freezes the returns to allow more time for reports from employers to come in. For some filers, not all of their 2019 wages had been on SSA but then subsequently updated. Then they’re just waiting for TCs 571 and 846 (i.e., “resolved” and “refund approved,” with DDD).
