Weeklies

If you only saw an update on Friday into Saturday, it is quite likely that you are a weekly. This means the IRS only processes your return once a week, on Fridays into Saturdays. In this case, you will normally see a DDD on Saturday for the following Wednesday *after your transcripts have both been processed (account and return) on the previous Friday*. The DD will generally take place on a Wednesday (or later if your bank holds the deposit, or earlier if you have a card/bank that releases funds immediately).

I know in the past, that once a weekly started processing, both transcripts would normally get done in the same day. However, I was part of a group last year that were all resequenced early filers. A good majority of us switched from being processed daily to weekly. Unfortunately, this was a widespread occurrence which most likely overloaded the system. That could be a reason that a lot of us only got one transcript updated last Friday with no DDD the following Saturday. This is regardless of whether the PATH Act applies to your situation or not.

Based on this info, I am hopeful that if our returns are in good order, a lot of us weeklies will finish updating on Friday and will see either the PATH Act message on Saturday or a DDD for the following Wednesday. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

I should add that we should also be prepared to get our refunds released in the week starting with 2/20, because so many have already gotten their transcripts showing the first release date of 2/13. If we didn’t get a DDD on Saturday 2/4, we are most likely in the second (or even worse, third) PATH Act release date. I’m just sayin’. ;)

@Thomas Tafel I have heard some buzz that if you were a daily who happened to file on a “weekly” day, you might have got bumped to weekly status. This might be true and if so, it could be temporary or permanent.

However, if you are already a weekly for whatever reason, and there are a lot of different reasons for this, it typically does not matter what day you file on — you are a weekly.

At the same time, I would love to experiment with this next year by filing on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday and seeing if I can get my daily status back. I was a daily for years until the great early-filing resequencing debacle of 2016. Then I was screwed, LOL.

Definitely agree! I’ve been a weekly for the past couple years. I was able to order an account transcript the other day but still no return transcript. I’m expecting to finally be able to order a return transcript this upcoming weekend and hoping I get my refund by the end of this month.

So it doesn’t matter what day you got accepted if they make dailies and weeklies?

I wonder if we will see an update this Saturday with a ddd on Wednesday. I am hoping for a direct deposit on the 15th, but not expecting an update from IRS at all, but it would be nice !

I also agree heck I went threw it 2 years in a row I filed January last year few days before tax opener and man it was one of the worst season ever took me 45 days I resecenquened twice I got my tranny 2 times and all 4 of them was blank last cycle I updated on a Friday that year and had my money on a Tuesday. This year I was able to order an account tranny on Friday evening no return transcript as of yet but even if I updated after the 15th it’ll still be faster than last year

Again, this is all generally speaking, There are always exceptions to the rule. Some may get codes on their transcripts that show a delay for some reason, or even a blank transcript if you weren’t quite done processing, but more often that not, if you can order both transcripts, you are good to go.

Agreed, i believe when you get the account transcript it means you have started to process, once the return is completed your processed completely, some may not complete within the time frame therefore they are pushed back to the next time they process.
