Filed my straight-forward return 1/18, with EITC & ACTC. No changes in 10 years. I’ve always been in good standing with the IRS, never had to owe. WMR was 1 bar, then disappeared with an “Action Req’d” alert. Verify identity. That link brings me to ID.me, which is current and up to date. Then the msg says, “I cannot use this service to verify”. I called the IRS. They state a letter will be mailed within 3 weeks, follow instructions. Here’s my first question. Why wait 3 weeks to answer identifying questions, when I’m already waiting as a Pather? Question 2- Old posts on this issue state a 9 week wait following this process. REALLY? Or is this more streamlined now? Fed up.

Is ID ME trapping filers into being forced to verify with IRS?? We want to see our transcripts no longer can use old user name and password having to sign up for ID ME so when folk attempt too and fail does it notify IRS to ask for proof of Identity on WMR before you can go any further in the tax process??? Some type of set up or it’s separate you just can’t access your transcripts but still can get your refund. just wondering!!

Filed online on 1/21 with HRB. When I visit the WMR get the same “Verify my Identity”. I of course did this on 1/27 when I went to check after the IRS started processing returns. All have gotten back so far is the form CP303. No other information has yet to be received. Monday I contacted the IRS after being transferred around 2 or 3 times got a person who questioned how i even got through to them and was not helpful in answering questions.

Look for a number 971 on your transcript if you see that number on the bottom I believe that lets you know that a letter will be mailed to you if you don’t see that then your good 👍

Spoke to IRS accounts management today. They will not look at my account. They state I have to wait 21 days from 1/29, even though I was accepted 1/22. After 21 days, I need to call back. I haven’t received any letters. There are no electronic letters in my IRS account. Transcripts are blank as if I haven’t filed. I have heard of a 9-week wait after this process from forums of previous years. This is not fair when all other gov agencies I deal with will help over the phone.

Got this too today on my IRS site notifications, nothing in WMR yet about it. Filed/Accepted 1/19, no credits, have an IP Pin. Really hoping this is a glitch.

@Travishon. A system glitch makes more sense than the error I’m getting. Agent stated they mailed a letter, I never got it. I guess I need a control # off it. Now what?

Got this too! TurboTax forum folks are saying it is a verified system glitch.

My WMR does not say anything about verifying my identity but my online account does. My transcript for 2024 just shows as of 2-14-24 but no cycle date I’m usually an 05er. Does this only mean my online account needs to verify? I am not looking forward to waiting for months on my taxes!

@Starsha What do they ask you when you go in toe verify identity in the IRS office?

I waited nine weeks.. called because I didn’t get my refund or a notice, only to be told there was a system error and my identity hadn’t actually been verified like it said online. Finally got someone with some sense on the phone who said I had to go in person to verify, instead of waiting another two weeks for a letter. Went to the office, in and out in five minutes… And told I had to wait ANOTHER NINE WEEKS. Be end of March before that runs out..

@Neek, I’m NOT a Pather. My children are grown. So, I have filed the same way and typically receive my refund by 1st or 2nd week in Feb. Oh well, no letter yet. We shall see.

I never even heard of a pather having any type of update before 15 February. You might want to check transcripts.

@WhiteWolf, Never had any issues with IRS or Identity. I usually don’t even check WMR, I go by my transcripts. I checked on Saturday and tried to verify (even though I have been in system for ID me for 2 years and everything is current) I got same message as you. I tried to call yesterday. Hopefully transcript update on Friday will show if letter is mailed. Filed with TT, Return accepted 01/18, Transcript updated last Friday the 26th with 2023 account, blank except for As of 02/12/2023.
