      Filed 2/1
      Accepted 2/1
Married Filing Jointly with 6 children (as we’ve always had)

My wife’s info for WMR shows the processing.

When you input my info, it says, “ Please read the following information related to your tax situation. You may need to provide additional information to receive your full refund. To protect you from identity theft, your tax return is currently being reviewed. To help us process your return more quickly, verify your identity and tax return information. If you recently received a letter from us, follow the instructions on the letter. Please have your tax return (Form 1040 series) available and read the website or letter before starting the verification process.
If you already verified your identity and tax return information, you may check the status of your refund after 2-3 weeks.“

Never had this happen before, and of course, the IRS told my wife they would send a letter a few days ago. She called back this morning and the IRS agent told her he seen no record of anything being sent.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this as this has never happened and we desperately need this refund because we are a family of 8 and we lost our vehicle right after Christmas.

We had in person verification at IRS office 2 hours away. They said they released our return for processing and gave us the generic “9 weeks message but may be sooner.”

Anyone do this same process? If so? When should we expect to update and hopefully see a DDD?

I started a thread about my letter issue. In short, accepted 1/22, then WMR showed “Action Req’d, verify identity” on 1/27. Wouldn’t work online despite established ID.me account. I got my 5071C letter today. It was mailed 2/13 from Austin, TX. I live in AZ. You can request to have it resent as well.

The agent told me it will be mailed to what is on the current return they want to verify.

We usually file earlier than this when the W2 comes in and never had this issue. Agents haven’t been too helpful so far.

Maybe we try to call again and see when a letter was sent and make sure it’s the right address?

The ID verify is coming up for a lot of people this year. It doesn’t matter when you file. We always file early and have the same issue. Our letter was mailed two weeks after we filed and we are still waiting. We have 5 kids and our youngest is 6 so no difference for 6 years. It says it’s random. An agent was able to tell me when mine was mailed but it was the third agent I spoke to. They don’t all try to help unfortunately.

If you file for Child tax credit or earned income tax credit you should never file before 2/15 if you do file before that date you have a 90% chance of having to verify your id. this will delay your refund 1-2 months. it happened to me the first year of the path act. best thing you can do is wait for the letter to come in the mail. hope this helps.
