Verified and Waiting

Verified and waiting… again after what felt like an interminable wait for our state refund.

2/2 Filed married jointly filing and accepted via TurboTax
2/9 Bars gone and replaced with Tax Topic 152 and 9001 code
2/11 Called IRS and were informed that a verification letter was sent out on 2/5
2/22 Called IRS and were informed that they had not received our filing until 2/5 so only call back after 21 days from that date.
2/25 Received 5071C letter that was DATED 2/22 (so much for having been mailed 2/5)
3/1 Called and successfully verified (waited as we looked for 2017 w2s to be prepared for possible questions) and were told that 9 weeks is the worst case scenario and that the status in IRS.gov should be updated within 2 weeks.
3/8 Status hasn’t changed for my husband (my status alongside had bars then changed to say the return is still processing and a refund date will be provided when available).

So what have your experiences been? Still waiting for a refund when for all the years either one of us has filed, our direct deposit has been within 2 weeks. Apparently our newlywed (filing married jointly) is what set us up for verification. Gotta wonder if every new married filing jointly was pulled even for couples who’ve shared addresses and filed from those addresses for more than a decade regardless of marriage status. The efficiency makes the mind boggle.

For the verification process did both of you individually have to call to verify?

I filed 2/21 and had a received no info msg but up until one week ago I was selected for id verify just because last year on my address “street” was spelled out but this year it’s abbreviated as “st.” This year they are really putting us through loads of bs!! 9 weeks just for street being abbreviated though???

I filled 1/30 accepted same day
Received letter 2/25 verified on phone same day
Now waiting for update
