No one likes to hear they are “in review”, but there are different level of degrees of review. If when you are run through the computer it flags your return for some reason it will be checked and if its no big deal you have been reviewed and then your refund is approved.

I had an IRS rep explain to me that they really are just running behind. The delays are due to all of the fraud that is going on. Its causing them to get back – logged. She said they realize that we are use to receiving our refund in 8 days, but this year its taking the full 21 days for many people.

            @ Ana

I am not with the IRS at all, so my opinion isn’t worth much. However, if you’ve noticed this exact same thing has happened to more than a few people with a 2/10 DDD. I feel that something happened (no fault of your own) to people with this DDD. People all over the message boards had a DDD for 2/10 and then on 2/10 they received no money. The IRs pulled back and when asked about it they told everyone they were under “review”. It looks like you were one of the 101K people involved in that breach/hack or whatever it was. The news said that scammers tried to steal over 400k taxpayers refunds, they apparently succeeded doing something with over 100k of people. Don’t hold me to it as I have NO idea if this is what happened to the 2/10 ers, but right after this information was reported refunds that were in the process of being sent were pulled back.

As you know if you can order both transcripts you are done processing, but being done processing doesn’t mean your refund was approved. Now, you are just waiting for them to actually approve your refund and deposit it.

If you have a TA you can’t call the IRS yourself. You can contact your TA in the morning and ask him/her to put in a request to the IRS to release the portion of your refund which does not include the education credit. They can release to you the portion of your refund which isn’t in question. Since you must be past your 21 days they shouldn’t make you prove a hardship, but if you have one it couldn’t hurt to provide things like past due utility bills, late notices etc…

Some money is better than no money!

Happened to me! I think the under review thing is their stall tactic. No reason to put all these people under review!!
