I have a few questions regarding the above:

      1) If you are unable to post to the IRS Master System, is there any way that you can find that out anything other than using a tax advocate or waiting until after your 21 days? I’ve read several different things from a few people (like how the CSR’s don’t know much about it) and wondered if anyone found out anything elsewhere. I would think if they are able to access my return that they could see if its been posted or not.

      2) I filed and was accepted on 02/20/2017. Four days later, my bars went missing. I panicked and called the ID Verify line that Friday morning and they told me that they didn’t see that I had to do anything because the IRS hadn’t even started processing my return as of yet (it had only been four days!). I was impatient and called the IRS on Monday and the CSR advised me that she didn’t see any issues with it, to just wait the normal 21 days for my return (I’ve read the IRS manual about what they have to say). I haven’t been able to order any transcripts or access the transcript site. It says its having “technical problems” and to try again later. I’ve heard people say that they’ve at least told them that a letter is being sent out or they are under review or SOMETHING but they said it looked fine! My bars and refund amount are still gone and I have the “your return is STILL being processed – a refund date will be provided when available” message. I’m so in between because TONS of ppl are getting this message this year and I’m starting to wonder if they have just changed the system or something due to the PATH act. I have EITC and Child Tax Credit (two kids) and am self employed. Although my return is larger this year, it still is very similar to every one I’ve had in the past.

      3) From my research, the IRS doesn’t even receive W-2’s, they are sent to a third party company and they don’t even start processing them until later in the year. Some people say that they have gotten letters advising that the amounts stated were wrong and that they would need to verify it with your employer which in turn makes them wait even longer for their refund. So how can they match up the amounts to verify if they are all correct before they send out a letter requesting that they need to verify it with your employer if they don’t even know what the amounts are beforehand?

I asked the same exact thing. Tax advocate said they should have, I said well 3 all told me no problem hadn’t processed. According to her they needed to look further but did not. She said because I was under the 21 day mark at the time they probably didn’t want to. Nice huh?

No one has told me that I’m unpostable yet but I’m curious as to how a tax advocate could tell you that you were unpostable after 2 mins and a CSR at IRS wasn’t able to? How did the TA know? Hope we both see some money soon!!!

My return was unpostable to the master file because of a name discrepancy. I kept calling after I lost my bars and kept getting told that everything was fine it hadn’t processed yet. After getting that answer and still seeing no movement and not being able to get transcripts I finally called the tax advocate number. She was able to tell me in 2 minutes what the problem was. Mind you this was within the same hour of being told everything was fine and it just hadn’t processed. I was able to find out that one you will not be sent a letter and two it goes to the error dept to be see if they can find and fix the error so it can be posted and processed. They tell you if you are unpostable that it will take an additional 6-8 weeks. I was hoping since I called and was able to help them fix mine that it would not take the full 6-8 weeks and maybe it won’t but it’s been 2 weeks today since it’s been fixed and I still have no movement and am still not able to get transcripts. Did they tell you that you were unpostable? Seems any change name change, address change, accidentally putting a wrong number in SS # were the most common reasons for it not posting according to woman I spoke to. Hope that helps.
