      Just a word about ordering transcripts, if you are new to this aspect of tax returns.

      If you can order both account and return transcripts from the IRS website, this generally means that your return is done processing. In this case, you will normally see a DDD/DD soon afterward. Sometimes you can order one type of transcript but not the other. This typically means your return is not done processing yet.

      However, this is all generally speaking, There are always exceptions to the rule. Some may get codes on their transcripts that show a delay or a hold for some reason. Some might even receive a blank transcript if you weren’t quite done processing. Although, more often that not, if you can order both transcripts, you are usually good to go.

          Okay, I have an amendment. The first two weeks of the year are “dead cycles” This means to expect your refund in the week you see in your cycle code. So if you see: 20170505, your refund is estimated to arrive the week beginning with 2/13, which is the fifth week of the cycle (that’s what the “05” represents). Sorry about that.

            Updated Cycle Code Note:

            If You Are a Weekly the Last Two Digits of the Cycle Code Falls Like This:

            05 is Wednesday.

            If You Are a Daily the Last Two Digits of the Cycle Code Falls Like This:
            01 = Friday

            02 = Monday

            03 = Tuesday

            04 = Wednesday

            05 = Thursday

            Basically, anything outside of Wednesday is daily. However, you will know if you are a weekly if you ONLY update Fridays into Saturdays. I.E., you get updated transcripts on Friday, DDD on Saturday and DD Wednesday (unless you have an awesome card/bank).

            Don’t ask me why. The IRS is nutsy-boo-boo. If you can make heads or tails of this, I have a medal all ready for you. *sighs*

              @Mitzi It looks like your refund will (hopefully) get released on the next weekly release date of 2/8. Let us hope for the best!

                  @amomslife, oh yeah, that sucks about the holidays. It looks like only President’s Day is a banker’s holiday, so those expecting a refund on/around the 13th should be okay.

                    @Brooke M Cross: The last two digits of the cycle code represent the day of the week your refund should be expected. 01 is Thursday, 02 is Friday, 03 is Monday, 04 is Tuesday and 05 is Wednesday. (If your date falls on a Wednesday, you are a “weekly” — see the post entitled “Weeklies” for more information on that subject).

                    The first two digits after the year represent the week your return was processed. For example, the 5th week of tax season (05) would be the 6th week of the year, because the first week of the year is considered a “dead cycle” for tax purposes.

                    So if someone has a cycle date of 20170503, it would mean your return was processed the week beginning with February 6, and you should have a DD the following week, on a Monday. If your bank releases funds early, it could come early. If they release on-time, it would be on a Monday, if they run late, it could be a few days after the estimated release date.

                      If that is so let’s hope returns are actually processed and released on the 13th and the 20th they are both holidays the 13th is Lincoln’s birthday and the 20th is presidents day

                          @carrie101

                          I’m thinking you are affected by the PATH Act? In this case, the 04 means your return was processed the 4th week of tax time (not necessarily the 4th week of the year). The 05 means you are a weekly processor (see the post entitled “Weeklies” for more info). This means you can generally expect your DD on a Wednesday.

                          Since we don’t know exactly what will happen with PATH Act refunds, I’m going to guess that your return will be among the first batch released, which begins 2/13. If you have a traditional bank, it could take 2-5 days to see the funds in your account. If you have a card/ bank that releases funds immediately, you could see that return on the 13th. Good luck! :)
