So I noticed something on my transcripts, that I have a negative amount at the top. I just found out that if there is a negative amount at the top, aka the amount of your refund, that negative amount needs to be zero to signify that your return has been processed. So apparently mine has not been processed. Which really sucks because I was accepted on 1/15!!! because I was accepted on 1/15!!!

I have been calling the IRS all day, I’ve only gotten through to one Life person and they transferred me to someone else only to be hung up on LOL best wishes everyone.

No it was not an ID verify. I personally would call yes. Your situation may be different than mine.

              @belladonkey
Lol I am very glad I called. One because now I at least know what is going on, I can destress a little. And two because, instead of waiting the full 45 days, he said he could verify right over the phone and hopefully speed out up. His exact words, an actual IRS agent.
So what do you hope to accomplish by being wrong lol

What do you hope to accomplish by calling them? It won’t speed the process up any.

I’m not sure, but I know they can work very fast if everything lines up. Last year I filed 1/29 and accepted, approved and had my deposit in my bank 1/31, just 3 days total.

@MISS Jae if thats the case we would have never updated to path then… The whole reason for path is the hold the refund prior to 2/15 and not the return. Think about it, that means people who got their DDD on 2/16 and were on the path returns were processed and approved in one day right after the path lifted??? I highly doubt that, your returns are done and just waiting for a DDD. If there is something wrong with your return you will either get a letter in the mail or you will update to a take action code… We good!

Okay so I just got off the phone with the IRS again, and they verified that yes my return is not FULLY processed that is why it is showing the negative amount and not zeros. When it is fully processed yes it will go to zero balance. As far as my code 1541 and code 570, turns out it is because we filed too early and my husband’s employer did not submit w-2 by then, so it had just been trying to verify. Agent said kind of recycling my return, but he verified over the phone and said hopefully I see something within two weeks, but he has to inform me that it may take up to 45 days. At least I know.

Nobody get mad at me but I think we actually didn’t start officially processing until 2/15 and could be why our WMR changed messages on 2/16.
So if someone filed 1/18 or 2/11 both returns started processing 2/15.(if were in first batch) First batch got the 2/22 DDD And the rest of us are in later batches.

I mean this is just what I’m thinking anyways. Last year I waited to file until.2/19 and got my deposit on 2/28. Total of 9 days for everything

If they hadn’t started processing it, you wouldn’t have a transcript at all. There is no transcript when it has just been received. A transcript isn’t generated until they start processing your return. Once they have finished processing it and they issue the refund, that’s when they zero out the balance.

Yeah, Jenna. I filed 26th accepted 29th. I am bummed later filers got sooner DDD. I won’t file as early next year. I’d expect a Friday night update for us weeklies with a 2/27 or 3/1 DDD

It is mostly processed, it is a multi-step process, and our last step is the 846 zeroing your balance out. If you look at your receipt from the store you have a balance, then you pay it, with a remainder left. They already scanned your items, bagged them, and now you are about to pull out that debit card and zero the balance. The 846 is their debiting your refund, which is currently a credit on your account. After that final step, you get your money sent and it zeroes out the books til next year.

Processed and approved are 2 different steps.

You are processed when you can view all I fo on your transcripts (your return trans will have amounts you entered as well as computer verified amounts).

You are approved when your account balance changes to zero and you simultaneously get an 846 refund issued code.

Look at code 150 and see the amount that’s posted there. The negative balance at the top is what’s owed to you. So negative is good!

I know it will eventually go to zero, as I checked it against my last three years transcripts, which are all zeros, now.
However, what I was told is that until it says zero, it is not processed. I hope that is wrong, I’m on hold again with IRS.
Do either of you have facts, or just your opinion or personal observation on how it”works”? Thanks!

@momjess is right. The amount goes to 0 when your refund has been approved. The negative means it is a credit on the account.

Not true. That amount goes to zero once your refund amount is approved and you have an 846 code at the bottom.
