    Hopeful Tom

Was supposed to receive taxes today but it went to irs for defaulted student loan. I thought this not supposed to happen, we desperately need this like many of you. No stimulus yet either. I hate to ask for help, tomorrow is easter, if anyone could spare bide love to save easter for our 2 girls. I have a cash app at $myclodel

Sry to ask that here, I just can’t see their faces in the morning and no easter.

How do we get out taxes if it went to an offset when that is not supported to happen? I’m one payment away from getting out of default, we only filed for the stimulus or we would of waited to file so we get it, but they said no more offsets for now. How can they do that.

I think once I fill out the papers they sent me they may look it and do something about it . I guess I will do that see what happens before appealing it. or wait the however many weeks and reapply. i dont know, this was all confusing.

@Heidi im self employed as well, im sure i filled it out wrong. i got a letter to fill some stuff out, but even though i was denied when i logged in the other day there was the window at the top talking about the PUA, but i also ready somewhere that you have to qualify for unemployment benefits to get it, and since i was denied I figured I would not be getting it.

@hopeful-Tom why did Michigan deny you unemployment ??? That’s terrible I was denied 2 weeks ago but I had message in my claim to file for PUA and I should see check next week I’m self employed. I am curious because you can appeal and reapply wondering if it could help in your situation.

fwiw, in michigan if you were self employed or 1099 you can apply for unemployment as of today. and if approved you will get an extra 600 a week till end of july.
I was denied, but passing it along for others if it helps..

im sure it will be hard to get, but they also said they are not taking taxes from student right now because of people needing money. I am going to call tomorrow see if I can talk to anyone on the edu side of things. best of luck to all, happy easter….

Your stimulus payment won’t be offset by student loans. The only thing they are offsetting those for is child support payments. So you should get it. Your refund will be hard to get any portion back but like someone suggested, you can file for the injured spouse. It’s not a quick process though.

thanks, sadly we both owe, hers i have almost paid off, mine I got like 1 more payment. to get out of default. im hoping we it goes to our bank and dont have to wait for paper check, .

good luck to you all, lockdown and no income surly sucks for more than just me. Even i could get my last check at least that would help while we wait.

It won’t happen immediately, but if you are married, your spouse can file the injured spouse form and you should get back your spouse’s portion of your refund. Good luck!
