I called the offset line, I have an offset from student loans. Contacted collection agency and arranged to be in their rehabilitation program to get myself back in good standing. My questions are as follows:

Has anyone else been in this situation?
Do they take ALL of your return or part of it?
Is there a chance I’ll still get my full refund?
How/when will I know any of the above information?
My husband made more, paid in more, etc… and I know he can file injured spouse if this takes the worst case scenario Road and we lose the entire return, BUT can he claim my son even though he is not biologically his?

Thank you in advance. I’m just so lost. This is never happened to me. Any help is much appreciated.

They will take whatever is owed up to it being paid and send the remainder to you. I know, last 4 year years in refunds have gone to pay back 22k in student loan debt from my wife… fact, they’ll take it, and not a damn thing you can do about it. Which is fine, it needs be paid back if borrowed yo.

I had same thing, unfortunately they will take whatever the amount is, if you have the code 203 and ddd they already processed it. I called as well and started the loan rehab process but it was too late….Your refund will be the difference of whatever is left and what you owed. Thankfully mine was less than refund, but still sucks they took over 6k but it’s paid now and I don’t have to worry. You will get a letter stating the offset and debt has been satisfied.

Since you have ddd you can look at your transcripts online to see exactly how much is going to be taken out.

I had an offset from a student loan i owed about 5 years ago that was close to 4000 and they took all of it out of my refund.

@Kaye Is there any way to find out exactly how much they’re going to take?

Sorry you’re in the same boat.

This is the first time it’s happened to me as well, and they will still offset you but tell you they’re not just to begin collecting.

Very evil practice, and make me wish further for a total government collapse.
