So ya boy chest hairs stood up on end with joy once WMR updated to a DDD of 2/27….How the flip ever……I noticed beneath the two bars and DDD, that TT 203 popped up. I was so flippin bummed! So I call the flippin FMR, enter my social, and the flippin machine tells me there are no scheduled offsets, how the flip ever, the system updates everyday! I have one simple question. To those who have ever been hit with TT 203, what was garnished? All? Half? Some? Or maybe, hopefully the case with me, none at all? Now I’m anxious cuz I don’t know how much they’ll take!

So I called offset number, my selections were 1 1 & 2. Said I have 1offset to contact DOE. I have always made my monthly payments on time for years and never had this problem. So even if you have been paying on your school loans they still take your taxes? Since when?

I’m so confused on all if this… I filled my taxes they were accepted then it said they was being process well at the bottom I had a tt203 I called the phone number given option #1 nothing option #2 said the exact amount that I’m getting back for taxes to BOE does that mean their taking my taxes? This is the first time it’s ever been on their. It’s been a little over a week and it’s still on the being process line. Also when I check wmr website over in the corner it still says my amount that I’m receiving for my return wouldn’t it go to $0?

@lee
Did u ever get your refund I’m same as you.. accepted and approved ddd of 2/27 then got tt 203 and never got refund called bfs num and chose all options 1,2,3 shows no offset called irs and don’t see offset either? Where did refund go? I filed with turbo tax and checked with them and still haven’t received refund tpg but on WMR shows my full expected refund and adjusted refund of 0.00$$??? Wth?? Does this mean it’s been taken? -

I had made a post yesterday about offsets and the offset line. I forgot to mention that the line is for federal non-tax debts only. Some Examples of these..
Past-due child support;
Federal agency non-tax fell debts (ex. Student loans);
State income tax obligations; or
Certain unemployment compensation debts owed to a state (generally, these are debts for (1) compensation paid due to fraud, or (2) contributions owing to a state fund that weren’t paid).
**You could have a federal tax debt, which will not show by calling that number.** -

@Tony Last year after my refund was suppose to be deposited on 1/31, I found out about the offset. So I mailed in my IS I believe on the 4th. They received it on 2/26, didn’t get my refund until 6/25. I think it was around a total of 20 weeks. The normal processing time is 8 weeks for mailing IS separate/after Offset occurs, that is 8 weeks from the day it is received by the IS Department. It all depends on what processing center/who works your form, as far as how long it will take. This year they are showing they received my form a lot sooner than last, so I’m hoping it’s quicker.
If they do go past the 8 weeks, they pay you interest. -

When you filed the injured spouse form last year, how long did it take for you to receive your refund?

The Department of Education is such a piece of shit.
30 years after taking the loan, and still paying it off? This makes no sense at all. They’ve taken every Tax refund until 2 years ago. Then I got a partial, and finally a full refund last year. But this year, an offset for all my refund? WTF. The website shows no payments received at all, and nobody at the DOE wants to answer questions. Ugh, this country is getting away with literally stealing money.
Guess we’ll see on the 6th if anything comes in. If not…

I have a question. So the irs took my refund and I had it set up to pay my tax preparer out of my refund. Well I can’t do that now. Has anyone had this happen? And how do you go about paying the difference?

Mine was taken for student loans and I used Turbotax. My original ddd was for 2/27 but of course I didn’t receive it. I’ve consolidated my loans but idk what else to do. I really needed that refund just like everyone else. Ugh! Very disappointed.

@Courtney
I was trying to find out why everyone with DDD of 2/27 has to wait until the 4th. Was it offsets, the IRS, the bank that the DDD was going to, or what? -

@Courtney
Did u use TurboTax? -

The 203 codes doesn’t always mean student loans…I have had offsets for PA state taxes. Also I’ve read on here(a different thread) that TT users that have funds taken out via federal taxes will see 203 code also. According to her she said that she received information direct from TT customer service

Even though they took my tax refund this year DOESNT explain why i was supposed to be offset last year and ended up getting my full refund. When i call irs, collection agency, and doe they cant tell me a reason on why it was reversed last year!? Waiting to call BFS on monday to find out why it was reversed last year and taken this year…kind of FUCKING STOOOPID if you ask me. I should of had my parents claim my kids!

March 2, 2019 at 4:29 pm #4308276Jerrica
If you are showing TT 203, your Refund will likely be offset. Very few people slip through and still get their refund. If the debt is more than your refund, they will take the whole thing. If it’s less, they will take their portion and you’ll get the rest.
If you are married it’s possible to get all or some of your refund back by filing Injured Spouse. I did this for the first time last year. For example, student loans…I have a student loan debt, which my husband is not obligated to pay. I did not work, so we were able to get the entire refund back last year. Even if you both work, you can still get some of your refund back.
You can call the Treasury Offset line and find out where your refund went. 1-800-304-3107
Press 1 for English, 1 for Debts, 2 for Personal Debts. If nothing is showing, then call back and check 1 for the last option instead of 2. The offset line has changed this year, so it could show on either.
The offset line didn’t update for me until the day before they took my refund last year, and this year shortly after I got my DDD on WMR.
If you need help filing Injured Spouse, go to Facebook and join the group “Longest Standing Injured Spouse Tax Filer Group.” Be sure to answer all questions to join. This group has helped me a lot with filing IS. There’s also info in this group about rehabbing student loan debt. -
March 2, 2019 at 4:29 pm #4308282
If you have TT 203, your Refund will likely be taken. All or part, depending on your debt. If your debt is larger than your refund, they will take it all. If your debt is smaller, they will take the portion for the debt and release the rest on your DDD. They can take federal or state for your offset. Very few people slip through and get their refund, so don’t count on it.
I had an offset for the first time last year, it was a shock, I was freaking out. If you are married, it is possible to maybe get some or all of your Refund back filing Injured Spouse. For example: I have a student loan debt, which my husband is not obligated to pay. They took our entire refund last year for the student loans. I don’t work, but he does, so we got our full refund back filing IS. There are factors that determine what you’ll get back, but it’s possible. You can both work to file Is, it doesn’t just have to be one person working. And it’s not just for student loan debt. You can join the “Longest Standing Injured Spouse Tax Filer Group” on Facebook for help with filing IS, make sure to answer all questions to join. They have really helped me with everything I needed to know to file IS. There’s also info about rehabbing student loans if that’s your debt.
If you want to know where your Refund went, call the Treasury Offset line at 1-800-304-3107
Press 1 for English, Press 1 for Offset, and Press 2 for Consumer (Personal Debt) If nothing is showing then check with options 1,1,1.
For me the offset line didn’t update last year until the day before they took my entire refund. This year it updated a few days after I got my DDD on WMR. The offset line has been messed up this year, so it may not update right away. -
March 2, 2019 at 3:31 pm #4308268SweetTea
I received a letter last month for a $61 debt to Medicare or something. It told me they’ll take it from tax refund, so I was notified. I am just curious when DDD is given, how long until the refund really is sent out

My sons father had his entire tax refund taken by student loans that were paid off over 8 YEARS ago! I called and tried to fight but I don’t have any records for that long ago since I didn’t think it was an issue! Not only that but they are saying he still owes so next years refund will disappear too. So disgusting.
-
March 2, 2019 at 2:54 pm #4308258Amanda
Just to update everyone, I have been on here watching for days after getting tt 203. Full refund amount was showing until yesterday. Updated last night and the offset the entire 5k to student loans. If you have been waiting like I have with hope that they made a mistake or that you’ll be getting refund, that wasn’t the case for me. No offset notice. Nothing. Just snatched my entire refund. Filed and accepted 1/31. Good luck to everyone esp those with 203 code this year.
-
March 2, 2019 at 2:41 pm #4308252James Evans
My WMR finally updated lastnight I had TT203 and it finally says my adjusted rwfund amount is 0.00 dollars. And that it was offset to pay a past due obligation. Sorry folks they are Raping us this year! If you owe DOE then grt that shit settled!!

March 2, 2019 at 11:41 am #4308157SweetTea
Mine shows DDD 3/6 approved
Tax Topic 203
Offset hotline says no offsets
The amount of refund on WMR reflects the same as it was, nothing deducted
So, now what? -

This is so crazy that this is happening to everyone on here I literally cried all last week end asking God why did this have to happen to me right at this time just to calm down and see it’s happening to everyone. I filed my refund it processed normal it went through with a DD of 2/22 said it was accepted and sent to my bank I called that date to check my status I had an TT203 for student loans don’t know what they took or if I’m getting anything back. Devastated I worked so hard all year just to not have a job now really needing those finances. I just moved and donated all my furniture thinking I was going to be able to get new things, also needing a bigger car, baby #5 due in July so I’ve been torn about this and it’s like damn the government just don’t give a f$&& they doing this s$&! to everybody. I’m trying to stay hopefully I check my status everyday hoping something changes, my most recent update said no debt found which isn’t what it said a couple days ago, so idk what’s going on I haven’t received a notice what so ever yet and want to know has anyone received a refund yet after having a TT203?
-
March 1, 2019 at 11:38 pm #4307824Charles E Henderson
The same thing has happened to me and I called the hotline and it says no offsets. I wish this was more clear cut on how to handle.I’m still waiting on my refund as of 3/1/2019.
-
March 1, 2019 at 12:51 pm #4307463Nicole G
@Meghan it showed the full amount expected showing that it was sent to your bank on whatever date provided.

So I got the topic 203 on mine and called to see if I had an Offset. I just got out if bankruptcy and I’ll be damned student loan took every last penny on my federal. I had plans for that money considering I’m not working at the moment. It sucks because now I have to figure out a way to pay my damn rent. They dont send anything out stating that your check will be taken. Smh…what a sad day for me.

March 1, 2019 at 8:30 am #4307200megan
For those of you with tax topic 203, did it actually show a full amount refund or did it show the adjusted amount?

-
February 28, 2019 at 11:13 am #4306636Acemommy
@charise are you married and is the debt yours or your spouses? If it’s your spouses, file injured spouse and you should get the whole refund back since you don’t have any income.
-

Same thing happened to me. I never received any notice in the mail or nothing. They just jacked my money like a theif in the night. I hate to hear that about your refund. I certainly had alot of plans for my refund but they are gone now. I’m gonna consolidate my loans today but there’s no guarantee I’ll get my refund back.
-
February 28, 2019 at 10:47 am #4306611TonyO
@Shaun what code does it give you on your tax transcript?
Also what state are you in to where they took your state for student loans this rarely happens?
-
February 28, 2019 at 10:45 am #4306609Kristi
They took all mine man. Now. I’m trying to figure out how to get it back but it’s a Longshot. Dept of Ed. Took mine for a damn degree I don’t even use. Nor can’t use where I live. Bullshit. Sorry man. If u find any information let us know please.
-
February 28, 2019 at 10:43 am #4306607Shaun
We also had code 203 and when we check refund status it says sent today. We where hoping that we would still get our refund but I called and asked why it says sent and shows the full amount but when we call the treasury line it says they took our full refund the IRS rep said that they have to process all refunds to sent to bank and just because it says that it does not mean your getting your refund. We lost are state refund before federal so we kind of had an idea it was going to happen, so I mailed my injured spouse form before we got to thos point and did tracking on the letter to have an idea when they got it. They say it takes 8 weeks but that I’d worst case timeframes. If you spouce had this student loan before you where married you can file injured spouse. We already got our state injured spouce processed and we are just waiting on a check. You can file hardship but it is pointless and a long process to get though to someone and this only helps you get it a week or more earlier not right away anyways so in my opinion its not worth it. So just because it says deposited dont assume your getting it.
-
February 28, 2019 at 10:27 am #4306598TonyO
@frankenbakon Did the offset line ever give you the amount you owed or your refund amount?
-
February 28, 2019 at 7:37 am #4306433Charise
. I thought I didn’t have an offset BC option 1 said no. I had tt 203 on wmr. I kept waiting for my refund to dd and so I called again late last night n hit option 2. My entire $6k was taken for student loans!!! I literally cried. We just had a baby. First big refund ever. I’m a stay at home mom without my own car. Was gonna buy one. Not now. 😭😭 they never notified me or anything!!!
-
February 27, 2019 at 5:41 pm #4306003Maryj

-
February 27, 2019 at 9:43 am #4305484FrankenBakon
Woke up to a full refund in my acct! Also read in another forum that they don’t usually take it it it’s state taxes trying to be offset. Not sure how true that is but hey imma take this money and RUN
-
February 27, 2019 at 5:38 am #4305136mandie06
okay so i know why i have topic 203 but i was wondering if they are able to deduct state and federal or just federal because i haven’t received my state refund yet i was just wondering if they took the whole thing from my state since i haven’t received it yet
-
February 27, 2019 at 5:32 am #4305129Jamie
I have a TT 203 also. When I called the offset hotline I hit #1 first and it said no offset but when I hit #2 yup I do have a damn offset. You can file a hardship but I’ve heard it’s extremely hard to get it approved. Call whoever you owe money too and set up a payment plan or something even $20 a month they can’t take your tax refund.
-
February 27, 2019 at 12:25 am #4304738FrankenBakon
12:22 am.. no DD yet. Called Stte of Georgia and was told my amount owed and it exceeds my refund. Transcript has 846 and no offset codes even after midnight with 2/27 request date. The offset number still only says could be offset not will be. This limbo sucks! Hoping to wake up to $ in my acct and having the year to pay what I owe to avoid an offset next year
-
February 26, 2019 at 11:58 pm #4304700Amber
The government is crooked af. I have the same 203 code and NO clue why. I have student loans that I just filed for last year. Started school in Nov. 2018. First payment isn’t even due until 2020 after I graduate!! I only owe my school tuition for now, which is up to date. The IRS is screwing us all this year! Im not expecting anything now…. they’ll probably take it all based on their made up bs.
-
February 26, 2019 at 9:48 pm #4304472mermaid
Here’s my question-
Why did the government nail all of us for our student loans yet I have a friend dealing with a nasty divorce and an ex who won’t pay his court mandated child support? He owes over $10,000 yet he claimed all of their kids and received a $6000 refund but is still crying the blues that he can’t pay what he owes. Our government makes absolutely no sense to me.

Yeah, these student loans are messing a lot of people up. They are snatching refunds left and right.
The government wants to take up to 70% of our income for taxes, supposedly for the “Green Deal” but I know it’s to support their elitist lifestyles.
Makes me sick. -

Your wife can apply for hardship with a eviction letter takes 4-6 weeks if approved will get the back total amount of refund

Omg lmao @ Sarah in a good way…I’m weak cuz you talk just like me you said when I hit that # 2 shit and they might have fucked me off…aye I feel you that’s exactly how I woulda told the story!!!These mfs just took our whole shit on about my husbands student loan shit, which is cool but they never notified a playa about any of that bullshit!!! So here we are fucked off…Had I woulda known that shit I would have filed injured spouse from the jump.. My ex husband had child support debt I knew to file it, they ain’t send not 1 letter nothing…On the other hand my home gurl had student loans and they sent her a letter saying she had 2 yrs of differments and gave er her shit then once that 3rd year came they ganked her shit…So a notice could have been given which if they think about it makes it easier for irs cuz now I got to further tie them up with my injured spouse claim after the fact…Bullshit this year man all the way around…ddd’s with no deposits they are fucking a Lot of us

February 24, 2019 at 10:13 pm #4300551
I too was excited to see DDD 2/27, but for the first time ever, TAX TOPIC 203. Called and found out nothing for my husband, but it’s for my student loans from 2009. Student loans that were FORGIVIN because I never received the $$! Before the semester started, I was put in the hospital for pregnancy complications.. Fast forward to 2019, this is our first yr filing married/jointly. My husband made 100% of income last year, and we just got married last year. So we’re filing for “injured spouse”.
You would think the IRS would notice, hmmm SHE had ZERO income, HE had ALL income, so we can’t take HIS money. SMH. Now we’ll be lucky to see our money in 5 weeks IF I fill everything out correctly and IF I get a Tax Advocate that cares/does their job to help speed it along.
Prayers for everyone going through this!!

TT 203… I am so confused! So my student loans all say current but a signature private loan. I am in a IBR plan. I called top and they said student loans are the offset. Entire refund taken.

Hello everyone I have TT203 as well😔🙏
But I noticed that if I check the app it does not show my amount but its say approved with the ddd 27th then the TT203. When I check on the web it shows my exact full amount which did dis appear but once the big update my exact amount is now back showing. Does that mean anything even though I do have 1 offset. Ny sister had the samething but I never went under path she did did had a ddd for 22nd but she still havent got no money -
February 24, 2019 at 2:24 pm #4300109Sarah
Turbo tax fees do not give you a code203 for fees, that fee is already going to come out,as long as you know how much the tax prepration was which isent much, you will just get your refund on the date they give you without a tax topic 203, 203 means a offset for somthing you owe, you can call the hot line treasury offsett line and press option1&2 and they will for surley tell you what offset it is, since it is saying you have code203,good luck

To migos,,,, hey did you just hit #1 on the offset hotline, that told me i had no offsets also, for a whole week, but me reading peoples comments, told me to hit opion #1& especially#2,, when i hit that #2, shit!!! So am really upset, cause i dont know what to expect, i have to wait till tommorow just to see why, and fight!!!!! But sat morning, the status changed from no bars, saying refund recieved& being procrssed, to all bars saying approved, date for 27th depoist, with2o3taxto

@mikethemagnificent I did not file MFJ. this year. My student loan was sold from Nelnet to Dept of Ed to some other place. Ironic I called the other place last week to get my student loan numbers to “attempt” to request my transcript, but none of them worked.
@FrankenBakon and @Brooksie423 I just moved to Houston from ATL and this has NEVER happened. I do have a small about I owe to Dept Of Labor, but I owe wayyyyyy more in student loans.

I jus went through this …. if it had TT 203 u do have an offset call the number again and chose option 2 instead of 1 and it will tell u who u owe and it will give u the number to call….. they will explain everything when u call the people u owe but as ur ddd approaches u can call that hotline again and it will have more info like how much it’s offsets and when they will actually take it ….. They can only take what is owed and no more and they will then give u the remaining amount that is due to you on ur ddd … There is no hold up on ur money after they take theirs …… Hope this helps and I hope u don’t owe more than u ur refund because they will take all that’s owed to them …. I was suppose to have a refund of 8000 and only got 5300 but my debt is paid and I want have to worry about this mess next year Thank GOD💪🏾💪🏾💯💯!! Have a blessed nite and Good luck !!

Hey guys, I believe everyone or almost everyone is getting that same 203 code. Pretty much the IRS is backed up by 4 years on audits so everyone is getting audited and if they find something within the past 4 years then they will most likely take it from your return. I just found out the hard way but I called the BOP I found out it was my student loan thank God my student loan was only $1095 so I’ll be okay. However if you owe any money to the IRS you need to call them directly and figure out how much you owe. The BOP won’t be able to tell you that.
Hope this helps 😊

This is my first time seeing TT 203 and wasn’t expecting it at all!! I called the number and option 2 says I have 1 debt to the Georgia dept of revenue but it doesn’t provide an amount and says to contact them for more information. I haven’t lived in Georgia for 5 years and have had 0 correspondents that I might’ve owed them money. Any way of getting more info over the weekend or am I doomed to sweat this out till 8am Monday?
TIA

I got the 203 code and when I called the hotline, I was told it was the for the Dept. of Ed and that they “may” take my refund for an offset. Flash forward to yesterday when I woke up- I checked WMR and the status said my refund was sent to my bank and the full amount was showing. Of course I got excited and assumed I was one of the lucky ones but when I woke up this morning, WMR updated again with the best message ever letting me know that my entire refund was applied to the stupid offset with $0 being issued to me.
When you call the hotline, be sure you press option 1 and option 2- when I called, nothing came back on option 1 but for option 2, the debt to the DOE did. Also don’t let the “sent” status on WMR fool you because if you owe any of the major agencies money, they are going to take it.
If you have confirmed that you have zero debts, chances are the code 203 may have popped up for you for the tax collection fees depending on which servicer you used. Many Turbo Tax people are getting that same message and have found out that it’s due to the fees they owe for the service.
I hope you are one of the lucky ones- I certainly wasn’t and it sucks. Dept. of Ed never notified me that a few of my loans were in default status- I have other ones that are in good standing too. Turns out, some were turned over to a different agency that never bothered to get in touch with me about my options to prevent an offset from occurring.

Hello,
had an offset 203 appear; called BOP number 1 800 304 3107; pressed option 1 and 2; found that I had a very small VA copay; so all seems good; IRS will deduct and deposit the remainder in my bank account and there should not be any delays. Good Luck

Same thing happened to us this year. This was my wife’s student loans before we got married. I am filling the injured spouse form and mailed it today. It takes 8 weeks to get it back. You have to send all complies of W2’s as well with this. We will see what happens on the 27th but when we call the offset number says the total amount of our refund. So looks like they already got it.

STL2ATL, make sure you check both option 1 and 2. Secondly, if you are MFJ, check your spouses social. It will only advise for the associated SSN.

@Wheres my hope, could you share where you found the offset amount?

I’m sorry that happened to you. I was offset last year for over 8,xxx. So normally it will show on the side refund amount $0.00 if they took it all. The BOP number is 1 800 304 3107 press option 1, follow instructions from recording and it will tell you any debts or offset that you have. And a letter will come in the mail instructing you on how to proceed further, such as if you dispute it. I know the feeling 😔

I know I have an offset, two actually, however, last year I got my full refund amount and this year, my transcripts and WMR show my full refund amount. I know that sometimes the IRS disallows offsets, I can see that happening to one, but the other one I have no problem with. I also know exactly how much those two offsets come to, so if they take more, I’ll be plenty ticked.

Are you MFJ? If so, type in your spouse’s SSN. It will only state it for the SSN that it applies to.
