So my wmr updated today to show a DDD of 2/8. However, there is a note saying that the BFS has noted a possible Offset to the refund. The only issue i had was owing my state some money from 2021 taxes and was in a payment program with them. This debt was paid in full and settled (with a letter from the state saying this) in December.

Here are my questions: is it possible that when the state identified the owed amount the entered the debt in the TOP to collect even before a payment plan was set up? If so, once the debt was paid back, don’t they retract this request? Or, do they leave it there and show a $0 balance so no harm, no foul? Or, will I have the total amount withheld and paid to the state and then i have to get a refund from the state?

      Anyone with experience with this?

      Thank you!

There is a number that you can call and see if there is any offset that will affect your refund. It is an automated system and it will tell you where the debt is coming from and the number to contact. Just Google “tax offset contact number”.
