      Has anybody used a tax advocate this year or in the past? If so did it help? I’ve read a few different things and people have seemed to get some help from them. I don’t mean Turbo Tax or Jackson Hewitt. Those are not Tax Advocates in case somebody got confused.

          Seeking the assistance of an advocate is like getting an attorney to represent you. They speak to the IRS on your behalf and you no longer speak to the IRS. I believe that the advocates only help with hardships but am not certain. Last year I used an advocate because the IRS was asking me for documentation to reconcile my Premium Tax credit (health care) and was unable to produce documents that did not exist. The process was quick and smooth in my case, but I had a really good advocate.

            I was going to ask the same question.

            Accepted 2/11 and was told yesterday by the IRS to wait 10 weeks for more info.
