So I called and was told my refund was unpostable which means I have verify and I should receive a letter in 14 days. Does it take that long to receive the letter?

We filed 1/23 and got accepted on 1/24 and when I check it under either SS#, it comes up with one bar.
Then, on Feb.2, I checked it under mine (wife) and still one bar; checked it under his, and no bars and “Your tax return is still being processed” message. (No EIC or any credits, hubby had normal W2, Identity Protection Pin and I had a business that lost money; ).
On Feb.12, no bars for either one of us now and no 152.
Yesterday was 21 day mark, so I called and was asked a lot of questions, including did I
receive any letters or special codes from IRS, and said no. The only thing we received was a special 6 digit pin number and account transcript with all zeros.IRS agent said it didn’t look like any problem, just one of many that is picked at random for
further review, and once that happens, it is another 6 to 8 weeks!
To reiterate, I specifically asked – if bars are gone, and we have the “Your tax return is still being processed; a refund date will be . . .” then it is at least another 6-8 weeks (unless
there is a problem of some kind, then longer) ?
He said yes, that message indicates another 6-8 weeks! -

I just want clarity. It seems that everyone is getting the runaround.

The response was to me. I just didn’t give enough of a damn to respond to irrelevance. What’s funny is, the same thing I said earlier was posted on another thread and even a link to irs.gov saying the same thing lol

Not to tear the IRS Call Center apart, but I can guarantee you that chances are low that you’ll receive any accurate information by calling due to all the temps that they have. I’ve worked in a call center for HealthCare.gov and the new hires when they got stressed would say what needed to be said to either shut the person up or to make them happy.
Now, on that note, I have no idea what sort of software the IRS Call Center is using, so it may just be that whoever input all the info into the software did so poorly and the call center new hires just honestly have no way to get the information. Tax season is hectic for all involved. Remember that those you speak on the phone with also have lives and are also going through the motions with their taxes as well.

I viewed my transcript online the first day available and processing date was 2.20 now viewed again and it is 2.27. I take it that it can change.

I have the same question kimberly. I called this morning too (filed 1/23 bars disappeared 2/4). The Rep said she was pushing the letter out and I had to wait for it to come so I could verify ID. I have to go in to the local IRS, can’t do it over the phone.

Each IRS Rep answers questions based on their interpretation of the answer. No one in the IRS is going to come out on the record and tell you that you will receive your deposit on a specific day. For as many times as what I am about to say has been posted, I cannot believe people still need to question this… but the IRS estimates a time frame, then they add a cushion to it, knowing full well you will receive the money before the estimated date. They, as well as any form of government, do this by design.
The IRS will not tell you that you will get your money on any specific day BEFORE the DDD they give you. They are also trained to use this approach when handling questions by phone. They are very careful not to shoot themselves in the foot. This is why you get a different answer from agent to agent. The answers may vary, but on thing they all have in common is that NONE of them is going to give you an actual date, except the scripted date that the IRS has posted everywhere.

The rep who said that is completely wrong. It gets so frustrating because they all say different things. I called and spoke to someone (and I have a friend who is contracted) she told me they are already being processed. She said if I am able to order my transcripts, that means it is being worked/processed. For a few days I had the accepted, then after about 5 days, it updated to the PATH message and has been the same since then. Hopefully, we can get something on the 15!
Also, it says this on the IRS website:
The IRS will begin to release EITC/ACTC refunds starting February 15. However, the IRS cautions taxpayers that these refunds likely won’t arrive in bank accounts or on debit cards until the week of February 27 (assuming there are no processing issues with the tax return and the taxpayer chose direct deposit). Read more about refund timing for early EITC/ACTC filers.Releasing does not mean processing…..so she is not very informed.

I don’t believe it either. I just got off the phone with another rep, I was told the same thing. Not my lucky day for reps I guess.

Thank God I talked to someone useful Ms Moore from the irs told me that they will start releasing returns that have the PATH starting feburary15 she couldn’t give me a lot of information because this law was new to them so looks like the 15 we will know some
-

Thats not making sense. You should have informed her due to her being “the law” she might want to inform management that the systems are providing process dates of 02/13/2017…bunch of bs, I dont believe a shred of what you are saying she told you..

I just called and the rep was being fort freaking Knox with the info, I said ok, Thursday the 16th is my 21 days so I’ll call back and be able to have every question I have about my return answered. She said no, if you have the eic and actc credits we won’t touch those until the 15th, people affected by the path 21 days start on the 15th. I told her every time someone calls the irs it’s there is a completely different story, she assured me her word is law.

If the 21 days started on the 23rd then they would not have given me any information. I was told the 21 days start the day you get accepted and that has to be true being they asked me a ton of questions and told me I had to verify.

They don’t base it off when you were accepted, the IRS agents don’t start their “21 days” until the official start of Tax Season, which this year was 1/23. So, technically, it hasn’t been 21 days for anybody. The 15th will be officially the 22nd day and only then will they answer your questions and help you. Stupid, I know, but it is the way it is.
