Someone claimed my dependent

Does the irs issue refund after I file paper to straighten out the discrepancy with someone claiming my daughter? Or do they audit then issue the refund?
The return is for 2016.

This happened to me years ago, too. I got my FULL refund pretty quick; I’d say about 3 weeks. Be sure to send EVERY verification they ask for. Be concise and organized. A Taxpayer Advocate could help expedite.
My dumbazz ez who pulled this stunt (and forged my signature on the return) had to repay every cent to the IRS and is flagged in their system now. Good luck! Oh… it was direct deposited and I did receive it before ex was even notified he had a huge problem.

That happen to me last yr. I sent in a amendment with all the proof showing I was the eligle parent vitalvrecord info etc. Then I kept checking the amended return app and got it back in 2 weeks the person who got it illegally will have to pay back asap with intrest and penalties if it was malicious
