      1. If you are filing only CTC you will NOT be delayed. This credit does not give you money on your refund it only raises your refund based ob your overpament by reducing the ampunt you owe. You arent delayed because the refund amount you receive is only what you paid in durong the year. Your just getting your own money back. 2. If you qualify for ACTC you WILL be delayed. End of story. This is the refundable credit that adds to your refund per child. So in addition to any money ypu paid in that could be refunded you are also getting the 1000 per child on top of that. You are getting more than you paid in therefore it will be affected by the path delay. 3. EITC, this one is a bit tricky because SOME will be delayed and some wont, here’s why : overall the general rule from above applies. If the eic only reduced the amount you owe and you refund is comprised of only money you paid in then you will NOT be delayed. If you claim eitc with no dependants you will NOT be delayed. If you claim eitc with a dependent and it adds to your refund amount more than you paid in then you WILL be delayed. So basically IF YOU ARE GETTING MONEY THAT YOU DID NOT PAY IN YOU WILL BE PATH DELAYED . If your refund is comprised of ONLY the money you overpaid during the year you will NOT be delayed by the path act.

I made a total ERROR. Earlier I shared (I truly did and am very sorry I shared false information) that I got my refund FILING w/ EIC. I have received my refund but DID NOT have the EIC (like I stated before). I have CTC…not ACTC nor EIC.

        Just wanted to apologize.

            Hello friends…

I filed w/ TT (paid fees up front) on 01/18
Was accepted (got one bar on WMR) on 01/18
Approved on 01/22 and given a DDD of 01/31
On 01/30 at 6:30 p.m. PST my REFUND was deposited!!!!!!

I did file w/ EIC. I don’t know how it happened. I double and triple checked to make sure I in fact filed/qualified for the credit and I did. Nothing else in my circumstances changed from last year except the amount made and paying the fees up front (versus them going to an intermediary).

Last year, I filed on 01/12/2017 and can’t remember the exact timeline but didn’t get my refund until 02/22.

I know people think I’m lying. I promise I’m not. And I really am not trying to give false hope — I just want people to know that deposits are dropping!

No need to be rude. Im just trying to help because I see people gettin mad at eachother calling people liars or trolls but its most likely their situation is just different. However, It doesnt say ctc its says actc ( basically a part 1 and a part 2 of the same credit which I beleive is why some websites erroneously mix them up when talking about the path act) but the actc is the part that gives you money that you did not pay in. 1000 per child, that is the portion thats affected. I personally have all 3 credits so im in for the long wait.

I have the EIC and received my funds on 01/30 at 6:30 p.m. PST.

I used TT (fees were paid up front)
                      Filed 01/18/2018
                      Accepted by IRS 01/18/2018
Approved on 01/22/2018 and given a DDD of 01/31

                      FUNDS DROPPED 01/30!

I double and triple checked to ensure I still qualified for EIC and I sure did! Last year, I didn’t get my return until 02/22.

Nothing changed other than my wage and paying for the fees up front from last year.

Also when they use phrases like ”some early filers will be affected” they are referring to eic and actc filers. They arent saying ”some eic and actc filers will be affected” lmao

getting either credit delays getting your refund until atleast feb 15th, end of story.
This is taken from the link you gave:
[The IRS still expects to issue most refunds in less than 21 days, though IRS will hold refunds for EITC and ACTC-related tax returns filed early in 2017 until Feb. 15 and then begin issuing them.]

I dont know why everyone is so intent to believe the worst on everyone instead of maybe accepting they dont have all the info. ?there is no false hope being spread. IF YOU ARE GETTING MONEY YOU DIDNT PUT YOU HAVE TO WAIT. its that simple. The people who got theirs arent lying they just didnt have th portion of the credits thay pays them extra.
The irs specifically states that it refers to overpayments- by them meaning refunds not based soley on what you put in. (not to be confused with overpayments by you that you put in during the year, i prolly should have phrased that diifferent but didnt realize i was using the same term originally) some of my sources include irs website, taxact, tax slayer, eicoutreach.org and ncacpa.org the info is out there if you look hard enough. The blanket statement the irs pit out even uses the phrasing like some may be affected, thats why. Im not goin to track down and link every site. Heres is the irs, second paragraph: https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/new-federal-tax-law-may-affect-some-refunds-filed-in-early-2017

Please do not spread incorrect information, all you’re doing is providing false hope.

The last line refers to money in addition to what you paid in. For example: if my refund from overpayment is 700 dollars and i claim eitc and lets say it adds 500 to my refund in addition to that 700 i paid in now making my refund total 1200dollars. What the last line is saying is that the entire 1200 will be affected even though the 700 you overpaid isnt part of the credit.

Hey Lance. Im just trying to help cause I see people fighting and calling each other liars, no need to be rude. To answer your question it says ACTC not the CTC. They are basically part 1 and part 2 of the same credit which is why i beleive some websites erroneously use them interchangebly when reffering to path. The ACTC is the part that adds money to your refund that you did not pay in during the year (1000per child) thats the part that is affected by the path delay.

Copied directly from Where’s My Refund on IRS.gov

“According to the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS cannot issue refunds before mid-February for tax returns that claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit. This applies to the entire refund, even the portion not associated with these credits.”

The last line says you are wrong on the EIC part. If you claim it at all you are delayed.

Its not the CTC its the ADDITIONAL CHILD TAX CREDIT. There is a difference. I have the ctc and did last year as well and I did not have to wait until Feb 15th.

Ok tax master. If that was so the irs wouldn’t say refunds with eic “or” ctc must be held by LAW. They would simply state “only refunds claiming eic will be held”.
