So I have been under review like everyone else here and I called IRS again today and no new information for me…so I called a tax advocate and was told what I had already suspected was the hold up. When I filed my taxes I went off my last pay stub. When I received my W2, the numbers did not match. My last paystub actually had my earnings higher than what I actually made. So the tax advocate told me that because of the numbers not matching – it kicks it out of electronic processing and into a review process. Because I qualified for earned income credit, if numbers do not match they have to check to make sure that it is not a fraudulent return. Because I am actually entitled to more than what was calculated I should be ok and she said they will more than likely just release the funds and I will have to file an amended return after it is done processing. She could not give me an exact date but said something about hopefully this friday it would get released. Not holding my breath but at lease I FINALLY have some answers and not given vague information. I did not have to wait on hold forever to speak to someone and she was able to give me more detailed information that calling the IRS. So if you have any questions at all I would recommend calling them. Even if they can’t expedite it, at least you will have some answers.

@Naomieonekanobe turns out they aren’t helping me either. I spoke with one person who gave me positive information but since then I have gotten different answers from everyone I have spoken with. I don’t have any eviction or shut off notices so they just tell me to wait till my review is up. Another month to go…..

I feel like my local TA office isn’t trying to help. Picked up the phone 4 times and stayed silent, then just told me I will have to wait a few weeks for them to finish reviewing. I decided to look and I did make a mistake on my witholding(one number difference). Called back and she said, just file an amendment. Thats it. Not like I am hearing with others where the TA is having the 1040x faxed to them to speed up the process, nada. Any advice on what to do anyone???

Who ever I spoke with was wrong when she told me they would issue me my refund and then I could amend later. I called and checked on my acct status today since the lady told me they would probably release the hold today. Hold has not been released and several people I spoke with today told me that the IRS will not process my return if the numbers don’t match my W2. So basically all this time I have been wasting, waiting and hoping i would get my refund issued. I am so upset. I was told today I need to just amend it which will take months for me to get anything back at this point. Called an advocate 2 times today and neither were helpful and one guy was quite rude. I wanted to break down and cry.

I submitted copies of my w-2s and amended return to my TA yesterday. She said that the will submit and ask for expediting due to hardship. Should only take a few weeks. Check wmr on 3/23. Do I check wmr using original refund amount or corrected on I wonder?

@Rachel same here. I guess the difference was due to health insurance costs. I hope it releases and I can just amend after the fact

Also I don’t qualify for a hardship so I can’t speed up my process. Maybe in your case an amendment would not take as long if you do qualify for a hardship – just do what ever they tell you will speed it up!

@bbruins she told me NOT to file an amended return until they were done processing. Filing an amendment now could tack on an additional 16 weeks… I don’t know what your situation is but since I said I made more money than I actually did, I should be getting more money back so I will amend when its all done. I don’t want to do anything to drag this out even longer! I too will never go off my pay stub or file early ever again. I feel like I’m being punished!

Did they say anything about having to amend your return? I talked to my TA today for the first time. My wages were off as I did the same as you and used my last pay stub instead of the w-2. Won’t do that again. I won’t file early again either! She had me fax my was and proof of hardship and said I had to amend my 1040. I’m hoping they’ll release the hold and I can amend at a later date. We shall see.

If I would not have qualified for EIC I’m sure my math error would have just slipped through the cracks. But they are SERIOUSLY scrutinizing anyone who qualifies for it.
