        @Jay Green

There are plenty of reasons for refunds other than improperly filling out forms…. Such as astronomical medical expenses, job search expenses, relocation across country, charitable deductions to minimize what you’re moving across country.and for some of us, iy all happens in one year.

@ Unicorn, in what way am I spreading misinformation. Neither of you twoprovided a factual citation from a reputable source. Good luck with your returns. Seems your fear mongering is little more than dare I say wishful thinking.

Yes, the house did pass something to extend the budget for most departments untill the end of March. BUT, it still has to be passed by the Senate for the bill to take affect. If the Senate makes certain changes to the bill then it will have to go BACK in front of the House to get voted on again.

You are correct the house just passed a bill a couple hours ago. Now let’s send it to The senate so they can rewrite a few things, and then this when the bs starts. I’m hoping everything is good for us all

@Jay Green, for me I had circumstances that changed and yes – I overpaid…but instead of pooling everyone who gets a refund back as ignorant b/c perhaps it’s their first year…or… whatever else INDIVIDUAL circumstances affected them to get a return — alternatively —
provide insight and help educate on how one might know what the best allowance to claim is.

Example: if you are getting a big refund, review what you are claiming on your W4. Here is a good site if you are unsure: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2016/03/11/figuring-out-your-form-w-4-how-many-allowances-should-you-claim/#366f2e8402d9

It just is more helpful than judgmental.

There will be no shutdown passed a bill to extend government spending until March

US House passes spending bill to avert gov’t shutdown, sends to Senate

WASHINGTON, Feb 6 (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday passed legislation to avoid government agency shutdowns at the end of this week by extending funding for most federal programs until March 23.

I’m just spreading truth, its possible bro! Here every wants things to always go easy. That’s no life. Just wanted you all to know that its a possibility because I hear it everyday. And today when he announced he was gonna allow it to shut down, if he doesn’t get wall funding. I made my decision to share the info. I wouldn’t bring politics here if it didn’t involve what most on this forum is waiting for…A REFUND!

Thank you @semperfi…. @willbeas…WILL U BE AS 🤫 as u can & stop trying to raise ppl stress levels on here🤭

WAPO article mentions nothing of refunds not getting issued due to a govco shutdown. This is the kind of chicken little garbage that creates undue stress and chaos.

Look I want my refund too and expect it to come sooner than later despite a govco shutdown. I would caution spreading any misinformation, that’s all. Plus turning this site into a political moshpit doesn’t help.

This is copy and pasted from the article @SemperFi

Here’s a partial list of functions that directly impact taxpayers and would typically be put on hold if the government shuts down:

                            No tax refunds issued
No processing of non-disaster relief transcripts
No processing of forms 1040X, amended returns
                            No non-automated collections
No audit or examinations (some exceptions apply)
                            No whistleblower office activity

Here’s a partial list of functions that directly impact taxpayers which will typically continue if the government shuts down:

                            Processing of returns with payments
                            E-filing
                            Mailing tax forms
Appeals (statutory deadlines will not be changed)
Call centers (only during filing season)
                            Civil and criminal tax cases
                            Certain communications to taxpayers
                            Active criminal investigations
                            IRS.gov
To facilitate those activities, the IRS anticipates that 35,076 employees, or 43.5% of the total employee population, would be retained during a shutdown. So who stays on the job?

There is nothing in the article that suggests that the IRS wouldn’t issue refunds other than un-cited hyperbolic speculation.

Yes @WillBeas – it’s b&^%#!(* CRAZY!!!!!!! – in so many cases, refunds are the person(s) money – money they OVERPAID and deserve back!

I’m glad you posted this! It will be a good place for people to vent and to make any updates (IF they do shut down) on any movement (updates, IF there are refunds, etc.) I’m def “favorite-ing” this string!

I wondered too, for people I saw who filed w/ TT (who STILL haven’t been able to access their tax forms…) if it’s linked at all. I don’t know…I’m just wondering what all is affected since I see people talking about NO movement on WMR, bars disappearing, etc.

When did I say how important my refund is. I would love the small amount but I don’t wanna live in a Country with walls.

And yea I know what the date says, but there could be a shut down on the 8th. Its all over the NEWS!!

if you look at the date on that 1-19-18 it was when the government shut down there up now so hopefully it stays that way

I think looking at it as something they’re doing “to you” is self centered and a bit absurd. If your refund is THAT important, fill out your employment forms properly so you don’t have to loan the money to the IRS to begin with.
