I saw on the news that there is a “historic” snow storm in the east and they declared a state of emergency in several states including Washington D.C. which looked to be getting the worst of it with up to 3 feet of snow.

Is anybody else worried that it might delay the refund process if nobody can get to work or if the power goes out at the IRS refund processing center assuming that it’s in DC?

I’m hoping that it’s a mostly automated system that can run 24 hours a day and t h at they have back up generators like hospitals and banks do. (At least my bank does)

Thank you for the information. It’s one less thing to worry about. I hope the storm didn’t wreak to much havoc for the taxpayers in the affected areas. We had 2ft of snow years back and it took the week for roads and power to be restored. Kids loved it though!

@Bobyl They don’t have a processing center in DC. There’s one in Austin TX, Covington KY, Fresno CA, Kansas City MO, Ogden UT, Cincinnati OH, San Francisco CA….and many more.

They have several processing centers throughout the United States where they process returns, not even certain they have one in DC actual…

No. That’s not how it works. There’s always someone to look over the refund and approve it. Even in hospitals, someone has to be there to monitor everything. Machines are known to malfunction and have errors.

I would rather our refunds get delayed by a few days and everyone there are safe and sound instead of having to drive in the hazardous weather to get to work just to get refunds out.
