Hello everyone have anyone heard anything about not being able to file until February 12 if you have a 1098 school credit

Also, you can do this without an agency, i just mentioned that because i would never have thought of that trick on my own. It was simple and quite convenient.

This happened to me a few years back. That was when i was still using a tax agency and not tt. What we did in my case because i had an income and a dependant to claim as well was filed my taxes without the education credit to receive the child credit and eitc. Then when February 20th came (that was the date they started accepting education credits), i filed an amended return and received the additional credit for that. It went as smooth as butter. The additional credit for the amendment took a little longer to receive though because they had to issue a check instead of dd. I have filed an amendment online with tt in the past as well because i forgot about a small w2 from a job i held for two months, it was very simple ands took about 15 minutes.

You can file at any time with a 1098, schools have until Feb 15th to get you that form. You can also contact the schools registrar or business office to obtain this. Please note, they are not required to supply you with this form until the 15th, however they may as a courtesy.

Does anyone know if the tax form 8917 will be ready at midnight or what time on the 20th they will be ready, turbo tax just said it won’t be avaliable until then.

I filed with 1098t to get education credit. Filed with turbo tax. Got accepted by IRS on the 11th. 1 bar on WMR. No problem.
