Conspiracy theory here, lol :)
Are we all seriously under review? I just don’t get it… I filed 1/14, accepted same day. 2/16 lost PATH msg got processed msg. Still no WMR update. I’ve called the IRS 4 times. Say I’m under review, for nothing specific. No letters have been mailed, there are no issues with it,just keep checking WMR. …I requested an advocate. She asked me to get her a letter from my employer on letterhead with my w2 info on it. I did this immediately and faxed over. Now I have not heard from her since last week…called IRS again just now. Still no letters, still no issues, no codes or anything. It just doesn’t make sense. We are reviewing you but we don’t know what for??? Anyone else feel like they are just buying time?

Anyone have a resolution so far with an advocate? Like a DDD or your refund?

Same Deal
Filed 1/23
no EITC or ACTC
I have been processing since 1/28! I finally got a hold of a very nice advocate. We had to make a correction and we got all the paperwork to her. She tried to release our refund and now we have to ID verify at an IRS office. the closest office is a 3 hour drive. I’m completely aggravated!! My advocate said that we should have received a letter, but no letter was ever sent out. It just seems like they are trying to hold on to my money as long as they can. Just so sick of it. My state has also been processing since 1/23…I won’t give up….they are not getting to keep my hard earned money! -

Update- My advocate just told me he submitted the letter from my job, that the IRS approved it and now it should take 2 weeks to run through the computer system. So I guess we will see. I still don’t feel safe.

This is a semi-rant:
I think this is a ruse. We have been waiting for a DDD, then there was a hold up suddenly when it was processing forever. So we called and was told there wasn’t anything holding it up but we should see an update in the system sometime within the next two weeks. We filed 1/27, accepted same day.
Processing for weeks, thereafter. No updates to WMR.
Claimed EIC and two kids (Nothing new from years’ past, we have verified before).
Didn’t pull transcripts. Don’t care if we are weekly or whatever. IRS sucks.
Filed with H&R, no fees.
Delay message popped up on WMR on 2/22.I don’t want to write all of what went on, because it was mostly calling being told one thing just for it to be incorrect or a dead end.
Had one agent lie to us (it will be cleared up by the end of February, found out nothing had been done-despite what Polly Pocket had to say- nothing was removed despite her advisement). But then we had one outstanding agent (worked to get answers honestly and followed up with us). Kudos to that lady, she was on it.
Considering how many angry taxpayers call her, she was helpful and positive. I hope they give you a raise, but I don’t want to jinx it.
Polly Pocket, I hope your year is filled with the respect you show others.
IMHO, the WMR webpage on IRS’s website is useless (at least in the past eight years for us), the refund is processed and sent well before that damn website ever updates. So when we do check the website…it’s purely for entertainment and hopeless optimism that the few reps who do their job are right and not just blowing hot air.
At this point: put up some cat videos while we are there, IRS. Dancing puppies. Might as well.
Regarding the verification process—I believe it’s definitely a ruse to cover for other internal dysfunctions and legislative changes that have been torn to hell, as others here have mentioned in this thread. I would even go as far to say it’s due to all the previous massive IRS layoffs in the past few years. So ridiculous. Let’s invoke some legislation and more stipulations to catch thieves…without the adequate man power or proper resources to really crack down on it.
I’m sure we will read some pablum article about how they caught hundreds of thousands of perps’ scamming the system with this crap-fest process.
Right. Checks in the mail and my DDD could happen any moment. Unicorns and dancing daisies. Don’t give a damn. I hope everyone gets their refunds. Out of control.

I agree. I’ve been “under review” since the end of January and I haven’t heard a thing. I haven’t been asked for anything, haven’t received any communication from the IRS with the exception of me requesting my transcripts which I received quickly. They only show the “570” code and the processing date of 2/27 and cycle dates. But – nothing. I agree, there is something fishy going on.

Yes that is true because I had to do the same and my Tax Advocate got it and will be sending it in tomorrow. What happen is my employer submitted my W-2 like a total of 3 times stating that I made a total of 56,000 with a total of 3,000 being withheld…which was so far from the truth. My Tax Advocate will be contacting me tomorrow with updated information on the status of my return. Most employees are using a new system to submit the tax information over to the IRS and it seems to be causing some problems.

@johnathan vasquez
Yes they are going to adjust it because the amount is so small, had it been a large amount I would have had to file an amended return.
She said it would take 2 weeks and my question is has anyone had a similar situation where it didn’t take 2 weeks to finally get your return. -

@Rachel sorry that makes no sense because the irs usally will adjust for you.

Advocate finally contacted me. My employer reported wages $300 more than my W2 showed. She said because it is such a small amount she should be able to resolve it without me having to file an amended return. She gave me a 2 week time period, anyone have an experience with this where it didn’t take that long?

What Vanessa said.
I work in HR and we really struggled meeting the deadline to get all of our employee’s W2’s uploaded by 1/31 this year. We barely met the deadline.
If there was an error in the upload or an employer filed for an extension, with all the new fraud prevention, I think it will really slow things down.

I got an advocate today. He requested I get a letter from my employer with wage and contact info and a copy of my w2, then fax to him. Then said he would contact me again on Friday. I’m hoping this helps. My return has been about the same for the past 5 years. I don’t see why I would need a review. I do think the statement about the delay in w2s is correct and they are trying to buy time. But are they seriously cross referencing all of our w2s? This year is just BS, like us normal taxpayers need to suffer because of the fraudsters? How much fraud have they actually prevented by delaying our taxes? Here it is almost March and no money in sight

I called today and I was told I was under review and it could take up to 60days to egt my return . this is bullshit honestly. I know I have an offset which is no big deal but seriously this is absurd. on WMR is says take action and give me a code1541. smh they are quick to take the money though . is anyone else in the same boat? if you get an update or DD please comment

Sitting in the same boat with you all. This is ridiculous.

My theory is that many of these supposed holds, reviews & letters telling people to do nothing but wait has a lot to do with the new IRS mandate requiring employers to submit employee W2s by January 31st this year. What a lot of people don’t know, is that employers can file one 30 day extention allowing them more time to get that info to the IRS. I believe people who filed but whose employers have yet to send W2s to the IRS are the ones getting the run around. Being told letters have been sent, when they havent. Or being told they’ve been pulled for review, when the IRS is actually just buying time for employers to submit W2s. ID verification is the perfect stall tactic. I don’t know, there just seems to be an unbelievable number of people having issues.

Same here, I called and was told mine was under review, no specific reason, and that they have 45 days to contact me. I read elsewhere in one of these threads that after they contact you finally, they have up to 60 days to respond after that. I hope that’s not true… I’m starting to lose hope that I will see our refund anytime soon. :(

Seems like everyone in ‘review’ filed before 2/15?

Glad to know im not alone here!!
The woman I spoke to just said there was a hold of some kind. Very vague, told me she couldn’t see why but probably because of credits. Didn’t see any letters being sent or any indication of when ill see a DDD.
She referred me to tax advocate. Anyone have any experiences with this? -

I am claiming hardship, like a dummy I was depending on my refund to pay for things, like my car, lol. I just explained my situation and they sent a referral.

How did you get an advocate? I asked for one and they said since there were no hold codes I was not eligible. I want one to speed things up

Yeah, me too. It seems like a lot of people have gotten letters or are told a letter is coming. Then there is a group of us with no letters. Why do some people get the take action return delayed message and we just get processed ? I personally have no reason to be in review. Same job 14 years same kids 10 years. I was accepted 1/23.
