      Hi Guys,

I just read on the IRS website, that filers with EITC, regardless of file date, will ALL have their refunds held until February 15th this year.

First of all, although I think I did qualify for the EITC, I do not have any dependents or children this year, so does this still apply for me?

Also, has this ever happened before, and do we know of anyone with the EITC that has received their refund before the 15th anyway?
I mean, does anyone know if this rule is written in stone, or it possible to get your refund before the 15th?

      Just hoping someone might know?

The IRS website actually has some pretty helpful info on this as well. You might check that out. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the info, I have been a user here for many years, and I am sorry to appear to have not bothered looking before posting, but this website is becoming increasingly difficult to navigate and use. Not sure if their servers can’t handle the load, or what, but almost half of every link I click on this site hangs indefinitely or is followed by my browser crashing. Mainly a predominantly mobile issue, but certainly happens on my pc as well.

So, sorry for missing the posts about this, it was not out of willful ignorance.

To those who answered anyway, thank you so much! Totally appreciated.

I encourage you to look at this link about EITC eligibility!

                    https://www.irs.gov/uac/check-your-eligibility-for-the-earned-income-tax-credit

There is also a link at the bottom of that page to tool to help determine if you are eligible for the EITC! Do keep in mind though, you still may have not claimed the EITC if you filled out your form in such a way that made you ineligible.

Though the EITC often is more prominent with filers with children, single filers can still claim this credit.

The PATH Act (which is the act that resulted in these delays) was passed on December 18, 2015. I’m not completely sure if this situation was in affect last tax season because it didn’t affect me resulting in me not paying it any mind.

To my knowledge no one receiving EITC or ACTC has received or will receive their refund before the set date.
